From the Board - Rick Whalen, Golf Classic Chair

Mid-Maine Chamber Calendar Spring appears to have sprung (finally) after a long winter season and despite all of the cold damp weather we have experienced thus far, golf season is in full “swing” and now fully upon us. The weather can change dramatically here in Maine as we all know but one thing that is constant this time of year is

the Mid-Maine Chamber Annual Golf Classic. The “Classic” has become a premier chamber event which usual-ly fills up early in the year and this year is no exception. The tournament will be held at Waterville Country Club in Oak-land on Monday, June 4th with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. and as is with each year, there is a strong field with 34 teams.

A special thank you goes out to this year’s major tournament sponsors, Damon’s Beverage and Redemption of Waterville and Maine State Federal Credit Union. The Chamber would also like to thank all of our members and, communities with the early and eager response to this years outreach for teams, sponsorship opportunities, donations, and tournament day volunteers. All of your support is crucial to the success of our chamber events and for that we are truly grateful.

There will be prizes for the top 3 gross and net team placings as well as a prize for the highest scoring team. Each player will also have the opportunity to win a chance at a $1 Million prize in a shoot-out contest, chances to win a truck, a vacation or a cash prize if you can ace one of the four chal-lenging par 3’s. We will also have prizes for closest to the pin as well as longest and straightest drives. This is the re-gions most prize laden tournament!

Most importantly, this is a great day to get out of the office and have some fun, make some new friends or busi-ness connections, and as always to support your chamber and its members that make our Chamber the success that it is. We are looking forward to seeing you all out there. Hit‘em straight and have some fun!

4 Quick Tips to Remember After a Data Breach

No one likes a hacked account. Am I right? A hacked account can result in financial loss, identity theft, or just a whole lot of wasted time, none of which is fun. But unfortunately, you don’t have too much control over what is or is not hacked. All you have control over is the aftermath. So, if you happen to find yourself on the receiving end of a data breach, here’s what you should remember.

Login Credentials: Your login credentials should be changed as quickly as possible. The sooner you get around to doing this, the better off you’ll be. If you change your logins before anyone gets inside your account, then obvi-ously they won’t be able to get inside your account at all. Even if they man-age to crack your credentials, it won’t do them any good. Those credentials will be old by that time.

Emails: When criminals hack their way into a database, they can stand to take a lot of information. Some valuable. Some not. But one of the things they will likely gather is your email address. And surprisingly, if they have your email address, they don’t need much else to send a rather legit phishing email your way. But your email address isn’t the only thing they might have. In all likelihood, they probably have a few personal details as well. Because of this, you need to be wary of any emails you receive from a com-pany after they’ve been hacked. Think twice about clicking links, download-ing attachments, or fulfilling any requests – even if it looks 100% legitimate.

Credit Report: Again, hackers can stand to take a lot of information about you after a breach. If they have enough of the right information, they can potentially steal your identity. After a breach, monitor your credit report carefully. Depending on the severity of the breach and the type of company breached, there might be free credit monitoring services offered. However, if there aren’t, you can always create a free account on Credit Karma.

Credit Cards: If you any have financial information tied to your account, then you’ll have to keep a close eye on your bank statements as well. You may even need to request a replacement for any credit card used or saved on the site. Keep in mind, this doesn’t just apply for websites like Target and Amazon – where purchasing products is the sole purpose. It could be a site like LinkedIn that gives you the op-tion to pay for a higher-level member-ship.

For more information regarding data breach best practices, contact Scott MacDonald at [email protected]

Member Spotlight - Waterville Country Club Waterville Country Club is a semi-private golf club located at 39 Country Club Road in Oakland. It is

one of the premier golf courses in all of Maine. In addition to the 18-hole course, Waterville Country Club also has a pro shop, restau-rant and practice facility all located on site.

Waterville Country Club was founded in 1916 when a group of local businessmen purchased over 150 acres of prime real estate in Oakland, Maine. The original 9-hole course was designed by the founding members and was rede-signed in the 1930s by Orrin E. Smith, who worked for many years under well known architect Donald Ross. In 1967, an additional 9-holes were built in conjunction with reworking the existing holes to give the members the 18-hole course that sits there today.

The newly named Nineteen 16 Restaurant is open

to the public as well as mem-bers. Nineteen 16 caters to all needs as it features multiple lounge areas, a dining room and a banquet room. The lounge areas include outdoor seating which is very pop-ular on those long summer nights. Nineteen 16 also offers daily lunch, dinner and drink specials.

Waterville Country Club is available to non-members at spe-cific times, but there are still mem-berships available. The club has a number of membership options

that are sure to fit any and all needs. Full memberships, trial memberships, junior rates, you name it, it has it at Waterville Country Club.

Don’t pass up the chance to check out what could be the best membership value in the state! For infor-mation regarding memberships at the Waterville Country Club, please contact Nicholas Pelotte at (207) 465-2838.
