Jason Hagen - Training News

The August Broadcast Induction session was attended by sixteen new members from the Arabic, Chi-

nese, Italian, Korean, Romanian, Samoan, Tamil, Japanese Lithuanian, Russian, Latin American and

Multicultural Communities. The next Broadcast Induction will be held on Tuesday night the 6th of Sep-

tember at 6pm, to attend this session participants have to be financial members of 4EB by paying for 2

years membership, $60 or $40 for concession card holders.

The current round of panel training has just started and the last round of 2016 will start in late Octo-

ber. As this is a part time role I’m at 4EB on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday’s. I’m not at the

station on Wednesday or Thursday’s. We are also looking for more broadcasters to get involved with

our Friday night youth program “Oxygen” please contact the office if some of your members are inter-

ested.

There have been several instances in recent weeks where people have been entering the studios either

far too early or being in the studios far too long after their programs have finished. This has caused on-

air programming to be affected which is unacceptable,

Please DO NOT enter the studios until half an hour before your program and exit as soon as you can,

after your program has finished. Convenors please make sure your broadcasters and panel operators

are fully aware of this. Until next month ….

Happy broadcasting,

Jason Hagen

Ukrainian Festival – Brisbane and 25th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence

On Saturday 3 September the Ukrainian Community of Brisbane held its inaugural Ukrainian Festival in

the grounds of its new Community Centre at Holland Park. The festival was especially significant as

Ukrainian’s around the world, including those in Brisbane, were celebrating the 25th anniversary of

Ukraine’s Independence.

The members of 4EB’s Ukrainian Language Group were on hand

to assist in setting up marquees, arranging the sound stage and

help sell delicious traditional food.

The event saw hundreds of people come and sample traditional

foods including holubtsi (stuffed cabbage rolls), varenyky

(dumplings filled with potato), pyroshky (savoury dough rolls

filled with ground meat or cabbage) not to mention delicious

tortes and cakes – all homemade by members from the Ukrainian

community.

Entertainment was provided by talented Ukrainian singers, musi-

cians and a traditional dance group who kept the crowd wowed

and wanting for more.

Stalls sold traditional Ukrainian arts and crafts from embroidery to

pysanky (hand painted eggs traditionally prepared for Easter), as

well as books and smallgoods from local delicatessen Euro Deli-

cious.

Plans are already underway for next year’s Ukrainian Festival

which promises to be bigger and better. The event will, of course,

be advertised on our airwaves well before the date and we wel-

come all 4EB members to come along and enjoy themselves at

one of Brisbane’s newest festivals adorning the multicultural sce-

ne. We can guarantee that you will have a fabulous time sam-

pling our wonderful Ukrainian culture!

SERBIAN FESTIVAL BRISBANE 2016

Serbian Festival Brisbane was a huge success! This year, the biggest crowd ever attended

the festival. 4EB Serbian radio group enjoyed the beautiful folk dances by Morava Brisbane Folkloric Group and a special guest, lead singer Biljana Bina Mecinger. 4EB Serbian group convenor, Stanka Vuletic, interviewed various guests and the public to

capture the festival atmosphere. Also, Stanka had an interview with the remarkable Serbi-an singer Biljana Bina Mecinger, who entertained the guests at the Serbian Festival Bris-

bane. Bina accepted to visit us at the Serbian radio program. She will join us in 4EB soon, along with her band to sing for us live! We are glad to announce that Serbian group is on facebook!

MUSICAL NIGHT WITH THE SERBIAN PROGRAMMING GROUP

Recently, the Serbian Programming Group had an amazing

musical night at Serbian radio. We had a couple of special guests - musicians Maja Puseljic and Dragan Milovanovic,

who performed live on 4EB. After the program, we had after party celebration with the guests while enjoying the deli-

cious traditional food!

Maja is a Brisbane based singer-songwriter, whose raw and passionate vocals navigate the nuances of soul, folk and

blues. Her Serbian background and deeply personal, honest song-writing will get your head thinking and your toes tap-

ping. Accompanied by various instrumental sidekicks with

inventive arrangements, she is gaining a notorious reputa-tion in the Brisbane music scene for her thought-provoking

performances. Her fast-paced wit, eccentric character and quirky stage presence add to her unique act and style of

music.

Our second special guest was incredible local musician Dra-gan Milovanovic. Thank you to Vlasta Jokic for inviting Dra-

gan to play live on Serbian radio program. Dragan is usual-ly performing at Serbian Clubs and Serbian Brisbane festi-

val.

Special Thank You to the wonderful families and 4EB mem-

bers, who joined us at 4EB and provided not only support but delicious Serbian food & desserts.

Special Thanks to: Gerasim Andrejic, Suzana Andrejic, Ni-

kola Katrestelaro, Biljana Katrestelaro, Vito Milic, Ana Milic and Milica Bozic.

4EB AT VIETNAMESE CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL 2016

On Saturday evening 24 September 2016, the Vietnamese Community in Queensland held its

annual Children’s Festival at CJ Greenfield Sports Complex in Durack.

Also known as Mid-Autumn (Northern hemisphere) or Moon Festival, this is traditionally an

occasion for farmers and peasants to celebrate the end of the harvesting season.

Thousands of children and their parents, grandparents flocked to the sportsground from 4pm

on Saturday to enjoy the rides, the lion dance, the performances by the children themselves

and of course, the food.

Radio 4EB was there with members of the Vietnamese group manning the OB van, interview-

ing children and handing out lanterns, lollies to them and information leaflets to adults. Pledg-

es to the upcoming 4EB Radiothon were also taken.

A joyful evening wrapped up at around 10pm with a fantastic fireworks display.

Arabic Group

My companionship starts with the radio when I was

teenager in Morocco. I used to have a small transistor,

at that time I used to listen to BBC Arabic service

broadcasting from London. Honestly, I was very fasci-

nated by the voices of the broadcasters.

Today, I feel I achieved a dream to be a radio broad-

caster and learning new skills, it is a very amazing ex-

perience but real; as if I went back in history.

I appreciate all the support that I am receiving from

Madam Dina Hanhan, our convenor, she is very in-

formative and sensitive lady, I also send my gratitude

to Jason Hagen who is doing a great job with an open

heart.

Thank you— Radio 4EB for giving me this opportuni-

ty to learn about radio broadcasting and meeting great

people.
