AMCHAM MEETING WITH TRADE COMMISSIONER OF CANADIAN EMBASSY IN MOSCOW
AMCHAM’S RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS PLATFORM GIVES RESULTS
On 4 October 2017, in the scope of AmCham’s
Responsible Business Network (RBN), AmCham Armenia
Executive Office and its member, Lydian International -
Armenian mineral exploration and development company
- visited SOS Children’s Villages in Kotayk. The participants
visited the local houses built by SOS Children’s Villages
Armenia and learned about the projects and efforts SOS
Children’s Villages execute.
During this trip, health and safety experts from Lydian
Armenia delivered a presentation on road safety rules to
the children and surprised them with safety reflector
equipped backpacks that glow and illuminate in the dark.
As a result of early-on AmCham’s meeting and discussions with the Trade Commissioner
of the Canadian Embassy in Moscow, on 2 October 2017, AmCham IT companies
participated at the Canadian ICT Forum, organized by the Canadian Trade Commissioner
Services with the support of the RA Ministry of Transport, Communications and IT. The
objective of the forum was to meet with the Canadian companies interested in Armenian
ICT market and to discuss business environment and success stories of doing business in
Armenia.
Lydian Armenia continued its support to the SOS Children’s Village by donating 100 trees
to SOS Village’s communities in Ijevan during the "Positive power and pure energy of
nature” event on 31 October 2017, which was organized by SOS Children’s Villages
Armenia. AmCham members: Radisson Blu Hotel Yerevan, Filuet Armenia, Unicomp,
World Vision Armenia, Children of Armenia Fund were among the participants. Another
100 trees were donated by Lydian Armenia to the SOS Children’s villages in Kotayk
region.
The above-mentioned donation can potentially ensure sustainable income generation
opportunities to the families. Thus, AmCham is excited to see that RBN platform that is
aimed at shaping socially responsible corporate citizens has begun operating and giving
tangible results among the community. AmCham would like to thank Lydian Armenia
and SOS Children’s Villages for active engagement in the AmCham life!
AMCHAM COLLABORATES WITH THE COLLEGE OF
BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS (CBE)
AMCHAM RAISES THE ARBITRATION AWARENESS WITHIN ITS MEMBERS
On 5 October 2017, several AmCham members
met with the team of Manoogian Simone College
of Business and Economics (CBE) of AUA to
discuss mutually beneficial partnership
opportunities. The CBE team introduced its
undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as
platforms for joint projects: course specific
projects, graduate capstones, and undergraduate
internships. The main purpose of the meeting
was to discuss mutually beneficial projects that
students can deliver to the AmCham businesses
in the scope of the following courses: Market

On 17 October 2017, AmCham in partnership with its member, Grigoryan & Partners law firm,
organized “Resolving Business Disputes – Think About Your Options” conference. The
participants learned about the current challenges in dispute resolution practices in our country
and CIS; about the comparative analysis of arbitrating commercial services in England and
Armenia; as well as heard about Sweden’s unique role in dispute resolution services from
international expert. During the opening remarks, Mr. Ara Hovsepyan, AmCham President,
highlighted the importance of unbiased and impartial judicial system for the improvement of
business and investment environment in Armenia and AmCham’s initiative of creating an
Arbitration Court under the Chamber’s umbrella. AmCham had the pleasure of virtually
hosting international subject-matter-experts, Mr. Haik Kupeliantc, Cambridge University, and
Dr. Patricia Shaughnessy, Stockholm University, who talked about commercial disputes in
England and Sweden’s experience of establishing an international known alternative dispute
resolution platform.
On 27 October 2017, AmCham members had a great “mind and soul” relaxation at Megerian
Carpets Armenia, which has recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. Megerian company
organized a well-thought program for its guests. They learned about the history of carpet
making and its significant role in Armenian culture, took a tour at the factory, had a
masterclass on wool characteristics, natural dyes and Old World knotting techniques. At the
end, all guests enjoyed Friday night music and a delicious reception.
