It also provides and allows the users to compare the current prices with the previous month and the pre-crisis (Feb 2015) average. The market prices data and information is collected from seven Governorates targeted by FSIS Programme through the Governorate Focal Units (GFU) and FSTS in Sanaa city. The prices are collected from Hodeidah, Hajjah, Dhamar, Hadramout, Lahej, Taiz and Sanaa city markets. The prices are collected from 3 representative market centers and the average is calculated for each location. Highlights x International Wheat Price :According to FAO’s (FPMA, July 2016),the benchmark US wheat (No.2 Hard Red Winter, f.o.b.) price averaged USD 198 per ton in June, up almost 3 percent from May 2016 but still 18 percent below its level a year earlier. x Wheat grains & Flour: The wholesale prices of wheat grain and flour (sack of 50 kg) has shown a very wide variation across the target governorates, where the lowest prices for both commodities (5100 & 6100 YR ) recorded in Hodeidah, and the highest prices for wheat flour (7600 YR ) was recorded in Taiz. x Gas: Ongoing conflict limiting the movement of domestic gas between the governorates that caused shortages in the market resulted in unbalanced demands and supply, which led to the increased price of the single cylinder in Hajjah, Dhamar and Taiz by 23.80%, 5.57% and 7.20% respectively compared to the previous month. x Fuel: Despite the official supply of petrol at 3600 YR /20 liter in some fuel stations the retail price of diesel and petrol still widely variant across the target governorates. The highest price was registered in Taiz (270 and 327 YR/liter ) and the lowest was recorded in Hadramout (160 and 190 YR/liter) x Local cereals: The average retail price of the locally produced cereals in Lahej still showed the highest across all the target governorate markets. x Food Security: The current insecurity in the conflict affected areas especially in Taiz interrupted the basic food and non-food commodities availability, movement, access and prices is considerably worse than June 2016. x The shortage of hard currency for the importation of basic commodities continued affecting the average prices of imported commodities in the local market. Background The Monthly Market Monitoring Bulletin provides monthly market prices summary on the targeted Governorate markets. It also provides and allows the users to compare the current prices with the previous month and the pre-crisis (Feb 2015) average. The market prices data and information is collected from seven Governorates targeted by FSIS Programme through the Governorate Focal Units (GFU) and FSTS in Sanaa city. The prices are collected from Hodeidah, Hajjah, Dhamar, Hadramout, Lahej, Taiz and Sanaa city markets. The prices are collected from 3 representative market centers and the average is calculated for each location.

x Sorghum: The average price of sorghum in July 2016 remained stable in Hadramout, Lahej and Taiz governorates. However, the average prices of the same commodity has decreased in Sana’a, Hodeida Hajja and Dhamar governorates in July 2016 when compared to average prices in June 2016. The magnitude of this change ranges from -8.26% in Sana’a to -10.34% in Hodeida. In Hajja and Dhamar, the percentage change was – 7.81 and -7.72% respectively.

x Millet: The same trend in prices of millet and maize was more or less noticed in most governorates with slight increase in Hodiadah and Taiz by 4.35% in both governorates in July 2016 compared to June 2016.

x Maize: The average price of maize in July 2016 ranged between 209 YR in Dhamar and 400 Yr in Lahej , it declined by 9.06%, 4.23% and 3.80% in Dhamar, Hadramout and Sana’a City respectively compared to June 2016.

x Barley: The average prices of barley in July 2016 were lower than the average prices of the same commodity in June 2016 by 3.25%, 9.72%, 11.81%, and 15.70% in the governorates of Sana’a, Hajja, Dhamar, and Hadramout respectively.

x The average prices of the locally produced commodities were much higher in July 2016 than the pre-crisis in all targeted governorates.

Onions: The average prices of onions were higher in July 2016 compared to June 2016 in most governorates. The difference in prices ranged from 2.17% in Hodeida, 18.0% in Hajja, 45.93% in Hadramout 25.0% in Lahej and 6.67% in Taiz. The average prices of the same commodity remained the same in Sana’a city. In Dhamar, the average price of onions was lower in July 2016 compared to June 2016 by 4.26%. Tomatoes: The average prices of tomatoes were lower in July 2016 compared to June 2016. This was evident in Sana’a, Hodeidah, Dhamar and Taiz. The decrease in prices was -11.11%, -8.93%, -20.45% and – 6.90% respectively. Potatoes: The average prices of potatoes in July 2016 were higher in all targeted governorates. This increase was 13.11% in Sana’a City, 3.51% in Hodeida, 26.0% in Hajja, 1.06% in Dhamar, 7.19% in Hadramout, 5.08% in Lahej and 8.33% in Taiz. Pepper & Chilly: The average price of pepper in July was lower compared to June 2016 except in Lahej it was increased by 6.25%. The decrease in average prices was evident in most of governorates and ranged from -2.91%in Dhamar to -14.97% in Taiz. The same trend was noticed in the average prices of chilly pepper in July 2016 compared to June 2016 in most of the governorates, while the prices were higher in Lahej and Taiz compered to June 2016 by 29.50% and 7.37% respectively.

x Despite slight variation, the average price of imported wheat grain was stable in July 2016

compared to June 2016. Similar trend was observed in the average prices of wheat flour in July 2016 compared to June of the same year.

x The average price of basmati rice varied from governorate to another. Overall, the average price shows a decreasing trend except in Hodeidah and Taiz, which shows 7.45% and 17.40 % respectively. The same trend was observed in the average price of ordinary rice, imported and local produced vegetable oil in all targeted governorates.

x The average price of Faba-beans and Beans as well as lentils witnessed slight variation in July 2016 compared to June 2016. There is a significant increase in the average prices for imported food commodities compared to the pre-crises era average prices.

x The average price of Thamad type of fish ranged

from 1525 YR in Hajja to 2100 YR in Sana’a City in July 2016. The average prices were higher in July 2016 when compared to June 2016.

x The average price of Sakhla ranged from 2958YR in Hadramout to 1475YR in Hajja. The average prices in July were higher than June 2016 in all targeted governorates.

x The average prices of Bagha type of fish ranged from 442YR in Hajja to 667YR in Dhamar. The average prices of July 2016 were higher than the average prices of June 2016. The increase in prices in June ranged from 3% to more than 50%.

x The average prices of Jahsh followed the same trend as Bagha in nearly all governorates. The increase in June 2016 ranged from 2.9% to more than 47%.

x It can be concluded that there is a slight increase in prices in July 2016 compared to June 2016 in nearly all targeted governorates

Livestock and livestock products

Sheep: The trend of average prices of 6 months old and 12 months old sheep remained more or less the same in July 2016 compared to June 2016 in all the targeted markets. Apart from Sanaa city and Hajja markets, which recorded lower prices as compared to June, all other markets recorded increased prices. Taiz markets recorded the highest increase (29.34%) for 12 months old sheep. Goats: There was considerable variations in the prices of 6 month goat in all markets as compared to June 2016 prices from low prices in Sanaa (-0.46%) to 16.50% in Taiz markets. The average prices of 12 months goat in July was 18.21% in Lahaj, 16.92% Hodeida and 9.17% and 8.86% in Hadramout and Taiz respectively compared to June 2016. Chicken: The average price of live chicken in July 2016 ranged from 1400 YR per chicken in Dhamar governorate to 1108 YR in Lahej governorate. Highest change in average price (20.66%) of live chicken in July 2016 was registered in Hodeidah governorate compared to June 2016. Beef: The average price of beef ranged from 2000YR per KG in Sana’a City to 3338 YR per KG in Hadramout. The average prices increased in some governorates ranging from 12% to 2%. In some governorates like Sana’a City, the prices remained the same in both months. Mutton: Average monthly prices of Mutton decrease by 10% in Hajja and increased by 13% in Lahej compared to June 2016. Cow Milk Local: The average price of one Kg cow milk remained more or less the same in nearly all targeted governorates. The few exceptions are in Hadramout and Lahej where there was a decrease in prices in June 2016 compared to July 2016 reaching -2.50 % and 1.97% respectively. Never the less, there was slight increase by 2.9% in Taiz compared to June 2016. Processed Powdered Milk: The average prices of powdered milk were more or less comparable in all targeted governorates in July 2016. When these average prices were compared to June 2016, there was a decrease in prices reaching -1.32% in Sana’a City and -1.94% in Taiz while there was an increase in average prices ranging from 1.80% in Hodeida to 4.12% in Hajja Governorate. Chicken Meat: The average price of chicken meat ranged from 700 YR to 1658 YR in July in all targeted markets. Compared to the previous month there was an increase in average prices of chicken meat in Sana’a City, Hajja, Lahej and Taiz while there was a decrease in average prices in Hodeida (-13.6%), Dhamar (-6.9%) and Hadramout (–0.59%). Eggs: The average prices of a 30 eggs package ranged from 803Yr to

917Yr in all targeted governorates. The average prices of July were slightly higher than June 2016 except in Taiz where the average prices decreased by 2.2%.

Diesel: The average price per liter of diesel in July 2016 ranged from 160YR in Hadramout to 270 yr in Taiz. Diesel was not available in Lahej in June and July 2016. Petrol: The average prices per liter of petrol ranged from 225YR in Hajja to 327YR in Taiz. Generally, there was a decrease in prices in July as compared to June (Sana’a -23.34%, Hodeida – 29.83%, Hajja -23.83%, Dhamar -24.97%, Lahej – 53.38% and Taiz -32.62%). Hadramout was the only governorate that shows a 2.01% increase in average prices of petrol. Cooking Gas: The average prices of one cylinder cooking gas ranged from 2167 YR in Hadramout to 6950 YR in Taiz. The average prices of July 2016 compared to June prices shows a decrease in Sana’a (-3.21%), Hodeida (-4.25%), Hadramout (-7.14%) and Lahej (-3.82%). However, Hajjah markets in contrast recorded the highest increase of 23.80% followed by Taiz 7.20% and Dhamar by 5.57% Despite the relative improvement of average price per liter of diesel and petrol during July 2016 there is significant increase in the average prices ranging from 6.6% for diesel and 26.67% for petrol in Hadramout to 80% for diesel and 118% for petrol

in Taiz compared with the pre-crisis prices. The average prices of one cylinder cooking gas significantly increased when compared to the pre-crisis average prices. This increase ranged from 44.44% in Hadramout to more 178% in Taiz. The slight improvement of average prices of fuel products is mainly related to relatively improved supply and open market prices adopted recently.
