National Trends In October 2016, 7,144 new manufactured homes were shipped, an increase of 4.7 percent from October 2015, and a decrease of 231 homes or 3.1 percent compared to September 2016. Compared with the same month last year, there were increases in home shipments of single section homes by 14.9 percent while multi-section homes recorded a reduction of 3.6 percent. Total floors shipped in October 2016 were 10,832, an increase of 1.6 percent compared with October 2015.
Compared with the prior year, 2016 recorded shipment increases in nine out of 10 months, with a decline registered only in July. Shipments from January through October this year totaled 67,055 homes compared with 58,865 homes in 2015, a net increase of 13.9 percent.
The seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of shipments was 74,742 in October 2016, down 10.3 percent from the adjusted rate of 83,324 in September 2016. The SAAR corrects for normal seasonal variations and projects annual shipments based on the current monthly total.
The number of plants reporting production in October 2016 was 127 and the number of active corporations was 35, both up one from the previous month.

Regional and State Results Compared with the same month last year, state shipment results for October 2016 showed increases for 24 states, reductions in 23 states, and three states with no change. Top shipment increases and decreases, ranked by change in the number of shipments are shown in the table below.

Compared with the same month last year, five regions posted gains in October 2016, with the East North Central states registering the largest proportional increase, up 21.2 percent compared with October 2015. Three regions recorded decreases with the West North Central region posting the largest reduction, down 12.2 percent compared with the same month prior year. The Middle Atlantic region remained flat.
