With Britain being clobbered with so many interest rate ris-es this year, it isn’t surprising that many property investors look to buy abroad. For those wanting to tap into the rental market, it makes sense to look where property is cheaper and the rental properties are in hot demand. Holidaylettings.co.uk has seen an abundance of holiday homes being advertised in new loca-tions since the start of the year and now offers property in 100 countries. Popular recent arrivals on the rental market map are eastern European countries including Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia, and as far afield as Mexico, Ar-gentina and Brazil. The holiday rental website also says demand for self-catering accommoda-tion in Dubai has also grown in the past 12 months. With so many new develop-ments under way in all of these burgeoning property invest-ment markets, the number of self catering options is expect-ed to grow for tourists. Although savvy investors are always looking for up-and-com-ing markets to make a quick euro, it is Europe where most

of overseas property invest-ment is concentrated. The top three countries for rental holi-day homes are Spain, France and Italy, where tourism and holiday property are firmly es-tablished. Over 2,000 Spanish holiday properties have been added to Holidaylettings.co.uk in the first six months of 2007 compared with only 1,200 in the same period last year. Spain, France and Italy may not offer the cheapest proper-ties abroad, but when it comes to rental markets they are firm favourites. For those seeking the laid-back lifestyle and temperate climate found in Spain, but away from the over-developed Costas, Portugal has experienced the fiercest holiday home growth in western Europe in the past year. The number of Portu-guese holiday homes available to let through Holidaylettings.co.uk has increased from 300 to just under 1,000 in the past 12 months, an increase in excess of 300 per cent. Another destination showing

investment promise and work-ing on attracting more holiday-makers is Cyprus. The number of holiday home rentals there has more than doubled since June last year, supporting fig-ures from the Cypriot Land Registry which reveal that 12,000 Britons now own homes on the island. “These figures demonstrate the ongoing attraction of western Europe as an investment loca-tion and how, with its easy ac-cess from the UK, it still has property investment potential,” says Ross Elder, managing di-rector of Holidaylettings.co.uk. “With yet more investment in eastern Europe and South America it will be interesting to monitor how these markets develop in the next couple of years. “It is vital for investors that there is a sufficient tourism draw and that affordable flights are available in order for holi-daymakers to be drawn to these areas. No matter how many de-velopments are built or holiday homes advertised, there needs to be a demand from holiday-makers for self catering accom-modation.”

The many faces of short hair For all the wom-en out there who chopped off their long locks for a short bob or pixie cut, the good news is that they're still hotter than a pair of hair straighten-ers. Thanks to our very own interna-tional style export Victoria Beckham and Hollywood stars such as Eli-sha Cuthbert, these cute hairstyles are here to stay for the foreseeable future - or at least until they decide to add hair extensions. Short hair has so many benefits for women. Not only are short styles wonderfully low maintenance, they

are an excellent way to frame your face and make the most of your best features. Short hair also forces you to style your hair ev-ery day instead of lazily tying it back in a pony tail. The problem is that many women are frightened by any hairstyle that lops off hair above the shoulder. They wor-ry that short hair won't be feminine enough or won't suit their face shape. The truth is that you can wear your hair short if you choose the right style and it can be super sexy and girlie. Long or oval faces If your face is long

or oval, stylists rec-ommend an angular bob that's closely cropped to the nape of the neck and traces the jaw line in the front, which helps to square-up the face. Kym Ry-der and Victoria Beckham's hair styles are perfect examples of an an-gular bob, although you need poker straight hair to pull off a super sharp cut as Kym has. For long and narrow faces, extra volume at the sides, like Victoria's, helps to widen the face. To style angular bobs, apply a light hold gel to towel dried hair and blow dry using a round

brush so hair falls just under the chin. Short styles that must be avoided are pixies that add layers to the top of the hair, which will further elongate the face. Square faces If your face is square, you can soften the shape with a short and choppy pixie cut. The pixie is per-fect for making the most of your eyes and cheekbones, which draws atten-tion away from an overly square jaw line. To style, blow dry hair and use a qual-ity styling cream or wax to sculpt and tease each section. Short styles to avoid are angular chin-length bobs, which will accentuate the jaw line. Round or heart-shaped faces If your face is round or heart shaped,

you can skim away volume by adding framing long layers and a side-swept fringe. A fringe also helps to highlight the eye area rather than the cheeks, where round faces are at their fullest. To style, try flick-ing the ends out rather than blowing them under, which can slim the face by changing the di-rection of the hair. Apply a maximum-hold mousse to damp hair and use fingers and a blow dryer to achieve a younger edgier style. Short styles to avoid are sleek Betty Boo bobs that tuck un-der the chin, which will add further vol-ume to the cheeks and round out the face.
