The life of the disciple demands that we make a choice – we must choose what
we authentically believe about Jesus and if we are committed to following Him
– no matter that cost. Truth is, you’ll have to deny yourself and take up the
cross. As Dietrich Bonheoffer once wrote, “When Christ calls a man, he bids
him come a die.” Peter could see Jesus was the Messiah, now Peter had to de-
cide if we he wanted to follow the Messiah God sent and not the Messiah Peter
was hoping for. You have the same choice – will you take up the cross of
Christ, no matter where it leads you, in order to experience the amazing life that
God has planned for you?
As you prepare for worship,
consider these words of Jesus to a man whose daughter has just passed away,
While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the syna-
gogue ruler. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher.”
Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus,
“Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”
Have you come this morning with fear? Are you in need? You’ve come to
the right place. Your faith will bring healing as you pursue Jesus.

Sermon Series and Small Group Bible Study
for Lent 2012
You are invited to take a ten-week journey of waiting. receiving. responding.
Monte Vista’s PCH Discipleship Groups will move together through bible study toward a greater understanding of Christ’s sacrifice and victory, his love for the poor and thirsty, and the role we can all play in caring for the 884 million people who are still waiting for water.
Easter is the celebration of Christ’s victory over sin, death, and evil. It is the high point of the Chris-tian faith, a moment to pause and reflect on the significance of divine love in human form. Yet Easter in North America is often overshadowed by the spectacle of Christmas and fractured by competing claims for our attention. As part of this journey, we are asked to abstain from a favorite food or activ-ity during Lent and donate what we have saved to provide safe water for another person.
Join us on the this journey and rediscover Christ’s power to transform our lives and our world!

As the coordinator for this mission, you will plan the meals and then ask members to contribute a portion of the menu. On the day of the meal, participants can either bring their dish to a central location or to the host location where we will be serving the meal. The team of volunteers make a few preparations, serve the meal and clean up - usually in about an hour and a half.
