Itinerary(CONTINUED)

The walled Citadelle of Calvi is atop a promontory edged by fortifications from days of Genoa’s dominance of the region. Here one can see the Palais des Gouverneurs and church of St. John the Baptist. Local tradition says the Genoese navigator Christopher Columbus, who sailed in 1492 to America, was born here. You will have a wonderful day to explore on your own or to take optional shore excursions. Day 4 – Figari Beach & Bonifacio We will sail along the Western coast of Corsica, delighting in the rugged mountains and coastal scenery, past the town of Ajaccio, where Napoleon was born. It was later named the capital of Corsica on his orders. Near the southern tip of Corsica, we will have time at leisure at Figari Beach, with options for shore excursions as well. In the afternoon, you may explore Bonifacio which has an almost landlocked protected harbor. Here white limestone cliffs plunge dramatically to the sea, while the walled Citadelle resides atop a splendid promontory known as Corsica’s Gibraltar. The Citadelle strategically lies between Bonifacio Sound and the Strait of Bonifacio. A medieval feeling prevails as you explore the narrow alleyways in the old city which are edged by tall stone houses.Day 5 – Costa Smeralda, Sardinia

(Emerald Coast) Today we’ll arrive in the northeast of Sardinia on the Emerald Coast. Here, the Aga Khan created a beautiful resort area with splendid beaches. There is also easy access to the ancient Nuraghic archaeological sites on Sardinia. These conical stone fortresses are scattered throughout the island and predate the Romans by 1,000 years. Ancient temples, tombs, menhirs, and villages dot the countryside. South of Arzachena one of the most interesting burial grounds is found at Coddu Ecchju which features a tomba dei giganti (giant’s tomb). Day 6 – Isola Giglio, Tuscan Coast We’ll sail from Sardinia to the Tuscan Coast of Italy and the Isola del Giglio in the Tuscan Archipelago. Little known to most people outside central Italy, the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago sit in splendid isolation away from the bustling mainland. Small picturesque ports edge the shore, as they have since the time of the Etruscans. The town of Giglio Porto is dominated by a stone watchtower built by the Medicis. Wonderful beaches allow you to relax and play in the water, or you may explore the ports, investigating shops, sampling the breads, cheeses, and wines, and other delights. Day 7 – Lerici, Italy Today we will arrive in the port of Lerici, nestled in a protected harbor on the Italian Riviera di Levante. Surrounding Lerici are the small fishing villages of San Terenzo, Tellaro, Fiascherino, and Montemarcello, which are jewels to explore, like the famous 5 villages

of Cinque Terre just up the coast. (The Cinque Terre villages offer some of Italy’s most amazing countryside, where steep terraced mountains, covered by vineyards, drop precipitously to the sea. They are now recognized as a World Heritage Site.) Lerici is a gathering place for wealthy Italians, where villas cling to the cliffs. Walkers will be rewarded by incredible views at the 12th century Castello di Lerici where the fantastic Museo Geopaleon tologico is found. There is also a scenic 3km coastal walk to San Terenzo and 4km walk south to the fishing village of Tellaro. Beaches and other delights await your arrival! An optional tour to Florence will be available. Day 8 – Cannes, France Today we will sail along the coast of Italy and France and land in Cannes, playground of the rich and famous. Glittering Cannes is the classic Mediterranean resort discovered by wealthy English nobles who came to the sunny south of France to escape their drafty old castles during the British winters. Cannes high flying lifestyle has attracted notables and the notorious ever since. Enjoy a farewell dinner on board M/Y Star Flyer and sail back in the port of Monte Carlo.Day 9 – Monte Carlo to USA Disembark in Monte Carlo this morning. Independent transfers to outbound flights from Nice are arranged on board ship (or transfer on your own by taxi).
