Welcome to Monsoon®

by Stormsaver

Rainwater harvesting works by taking the rain from roofs and filtering out leaves and debris, before storing the water underground in the main storage tank. The water is then pumped into the property to be used for non-drinking applications such as flushing toilets, washing machines and garden watering.

What is rainwater harvesting?

With ever increasing demand for mains water there will become a point where supply will no longer meet the needs of our growing population.

Mains water is an increasingly precious resource due to increases in demand from our ever growing population. Changes in rainfall patterns in the UK have seen both drought conditions and flooding.

Rainwater harvesting can provide around 50 per cent of a family’s water needs. This not only saves water, but saves money and reduces our impact on the environment.

Why do we need to harvest rainwater? A precious resource

With an ever increasing demand for mains water it is highly likely that there will come a point where it will no longer meet the needs of our growing population. This almost inevitable situation will have an environmental and financial impact on the infrastructure used by the water companies, which will be passed on to their customers.

This is why more and more people are capturing their own rainwater – to make sure they have enough for their needs at a price they can afford and at the same time minimise their impact on the environment.

Planning

When combined with other sustainable technologies, rainwater harvesting systems can help secure planning permission and in some parts of the UK rainwater harvesting can help alleviate problems in areas where mains water cannot support the increased demand.

Harvesting rainwater has become a serious consideration for all new build or refurbishment projects. Architects and builders understand the importance of specifying rainwater harvesting systems to make houses more sustainable and to reduce the cost of running a home.

Why install Monsoon®?

It’s easy and simpleWith its intelligent low energy design, the Monsoon system is 75% more energy efficient than other rainwater harvesting systems on the market and could be powered via solar panels or wind turbine. So you reduce both your water and carbon footprint.Monsoon® is easy to install, simple to maintain and can reduce domestic water consumption by up to 50 per cent. The Monsoon® system has been developed to provide the homeowner with a simple, yet effective automatic supply of harvested rainwater.

During periods of low rainfall, if the tank should run empty, the system automatically switches to the mains water supply.

• Vehicle washing

• Garden watering

• Toilet

• Domestic laundry

• Option to upgrade to landscape watering and sprinkler

Why install?

The cost of mains water has steadily increased and will continue to rise. By collecting rainwater that falls on your roof, you can take control of your living costs.

House owners

By installing the Monsoon® system, home owners can be certain of using less mains water and benefit from lower utility bills and reduced long-term running costs.

Owners can be sure that the environmental performance of their property will be enhanced by having a system installed.

Housing Associations

Housing Associations need to ensure that their properties use low amounts of water and have affordable running costs. As Stormsaver’s Monsoon® system uses 75% less energy than any other model on the market, it can help ensure properties are extremely efficient and cost-effective.

By installing a rainwater harvesting system, Housing Associations should also be able to secure level 5-6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

House builders

With buyers purchasing decisions based ever more on energy efficiency ratings, it is more important than ever for builders to ensure their properties have the lowest possible energy rating.

By installing a Monsoon® system, builders should see their capital investment adding value to the property and can expect their developments to be water efficient without increasing energy usage.

The Monsoon® range of control units use a new technologically advanced membrane pump which operate on a mere 90 Watts – while other comparative systems waste 90 per cent of their energy operating pumps with a power consumption of over 800 Watts. This means energy consumption and running costs of the Monsoon® system are 75 per cent lower than traditional pumping systems. The Monsoon® system costs less to operate, less to maintain and emits lower associated CO2. The control system containing the efficient 90 Watt pump can be connected to solar, wind or mains power supply without the need for any complicated electrical controls.

Because the control unit is smaller than conventional systems, it is simple to install in a kitchen cupboard, utility room or garage.

It’s the lowest energy system on the market

Monsoon® Eco 10 / Eco 14 Control Panels

Monsoon® Garden Rainwater Harvesting System 1500L

The Monsoon Eco range of control panels have been specially developed for rainwater harvesting and are the lowest energy system available in the UK market.

The panels are fully automated and easily connected to photo voltaics for further reductions in your carbon footprint!

This graph shows an example of when a floating suction booster kit is required as an additional item to be used with the Monsoon Eco unit:

Example A: Length of suction pipe = 16m. Depth of suction = 2.4m. Unit can be used without the booster pump as it is above the characteristic curve.

Example B: Length of suction pipe = 34m. Depth of suction 2.8m.Unit requires the booster pump as it is below the characteristic curve

This system includes a 1500 Litre Shallow Dig underground storage tank of a polyethylenemanufacture, with prefitted integral leaf filter, inlet calmer and overflow siphon. It can be installed easily with a pea gravel base and surround.

The Hydroforce submersible pump which is electronically controlled, pressure sensitive and of a centrifugal design is to be fitted inside the storage tank. It also has a built in non-return valve, built in filter strainers and double run dry protection. As standard we supply a pedestrian duty lid and 250mm entrance shaft for access to the pump in the tank. Comes complete with 25 metres of connection pipe.
