ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE Welcome back after our spring break. It was wonderful to see everyone at our Parent Teacher Conferences, and I appreciate the good wishes on my announcement that I will be retiring at the end of June. My replacement has been announced, Mike MacDonald will be the principal starting in August. Mr. MacDonald comes from Maria Goretti School and has been with our school district for 30 years. Our students and school community will be in very good hands. I am working with him to transition smoothly which will include meetings with staff, students, and school council in the next months. We have a new Noon Hour supervisor, Donna Swalm comes to us from St. Margaret School and we are lucky to have her as a part of our team that keeps our students safe out in the field and in the lunchroom. She also helps in the kindergarten class. Some important dates are coming up. We will have our Family Dance on April 26 th . We will be having our Mother’s Day and Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on Friday, May 10 th at 7:30am and our Father’s Day and Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast will be on Friday, June 14 th. Please let us know if your child has celebrated a sacrament this year. We will collect the information to recognize students at our Year End Mass on June 27th at St. Peter’s Church. We would like to put their names on our school banners as soon as possible. The Calgary Youth Science Fair is being held at the Olympic Oval on April 5-6th. Projects from the brightest up-and-coming minds (including some from our school!) will be on display at this year’s Calgary Youth Science Fair on April 6th at the University of Calgary Olympic Oval. Visit the exhibits to discover the next inventions or discoveries that you’ll hear about on the news! For more information and to sign-up for updates on the Science Fair and spotlights on cool kids and projects, visit the website at www.cysf.org<http://www.cysf.org/>. All our School Wide Science Fair entries were worthy of praise and our students impressed our judges. We congratulate Adison Dedrick and Elisabeth Hamel, Nicholas Masson and Ethan Pereira, Mareena Yoingco and Ethan Wong, Olivia Allan and Sofia Salas, who will be representing our school. Good Luck! We will be having a Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, April 11th at 6:00-7:00pm. Please let any neighbours or preschool parents know we have room and welcome their inquiries to attend our lovely school. We are continuing to accept new registrations for next year. We currently have room for not only Catholics, but non-Catholics are welcome to inquire to see if Monsignor Doyle School is the right education choice for your child. Please let friends and neighbours know. Understanding School Designation We strongly encourage parents and guardians to review schools’ designated attendance areas, especially before considering a move to a new community. All CCSD schools have attendance

areas which identify the schools in each community where students are eligible to register. Students are expected to attend the designated school for their community unless they decide to register at a program of choice school such as French Immersion or Fine Arts. For a list of programs, please click https://www.cssd.ab.ca/School/Pages/default.aspx. For these schools there are mandatory transportation costs based on residence of the family attending. To view the Calgary Catholic elementary, junior high and senior high school designated attendance areas for each community, please click here https://www.cssd.ab.ca/School/Pages/default.aspx We are looking forward to the Family Dance on April 26th. We will have a DJ and snacks for sale. Please let us know if you can help decorate or volunteer at the snack table. Fun Lunch has been set up for the remainder of the school year. Thanks to Janice Richardson for her leadership and volunteer hours she contributed every week. We thank Ally Hill who has taken over the Fun Lunch Coordinator role. Also, thanks to the Grade 6 students who babysit for our Fun lunch volunteers and the wonderful parent volunteers who make these fun days possible. Please mark the date of our Yearly AGM meeting on May 14th at 6:30pm. Please consider putting your name forward to be involved in this valuable part of our school community.

Nutrition is important for growth, development, learning and activity. Children spend a large part of their day at school, where they are taught about healthy choices. Please help us keep our students healthy by reinforcing the healthy eating message. We are asking parents to support the school by celebrating birthdays

with health alternatives snacks or non-food items. We have been connecting with the students in our school and we will connect daily. Not just their classroom teacher but our support staff as well. In our March connection time, students choose an adult to chat with and share thoughts about Lent. A champion is there to talk to, someone to share good news with, is there to help you and support you. They appreciate who you are as a unique creation of God. Students had the opportunity to identify not only adult champions but classmates and students from other grades as well. It is reassuring that our students know they have someone who they can go to help them or celebrate good events.
