Call For VolunteersGet Involved with YOUR Credit Union! Are you looking for a way to become more involved with your credit union? Do you possess a willingness to serve the interests of your fellow First Credit Union members? If so, please consider this exciting opportunity.

As a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative, First Credit Union relies on members to volunteer their time and efforts to help set the overall course of the credit union. You can help!

Volunteers play a key role and the contributions they make impact the day-to-day functions of our operations, as well as shape the future of our credit union. First Credit Union’s Board of Directors is currently seeking innovative, energetic, knowledgeable and responsible volunteers to serve on our Board, various committees, and member advisory panels.

Many volunteer opportunities. In addition to the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee, there are many other volunteer opportunities available to suit all levels of experience and interest. For example, from time to time there are special committees, panels and groups developed to take on various projects. This could be anything from a task force to develop or test new products & services to a focus group to gather input and share ideas about future credit union plans.

Yes, you’re qualified! Are you at least 21 years old, have been a member for one year, and have a desire to contribute to First Credit Unions’s current and future success? If so, please contact Isaac Martinez for more information about volunteer opportunities by calling (480) 756.4885 or by sending an email message to [email protected].

The safety of our members and their money is a priority for us at First Credit Union so when we saw these startling numbers, we wanted to share some tips to help protect you. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration has received reports of about 736,000 scam contacts since October 2013. Nearly 4,550 victims have collectively paid over $23 million as a result of the scam.

• Scammers make unsolicited calls. Thieves call taxpayers claiming to be IRS officials. They demand that the victim pay a bogus tax bill and con them into sending cash, usually through a prepaid debit card or wire transfer.

• Callers try to scare their victims. Many phone scams use threats to intimidate and bully a victim into paying. They may even threaten to arrest, deport or revoke the license of their victim if they don’t get the money.

• Scams use caller ID spoofing. Scammers often alter caller ID to make it look like the IRS or another agency is calling.

It’s easy to fall for the scam out of fear, especially if you think you owe taxes but remember, the IRS will not:

• Call you to demand immediate payment. The IRS will not call you if you owe taxes without first sending you a bill in the mail.

• Demand that you pay taxes and not allow you to question or appeal the amount you owe.

• Require that you pay your taxes a certain way. For instance, require that you pay with a prepaid debit card.

• Ask for your credit or debit card numbers over the phone.

• Threaten to bring in police or other agencies to arrest you for not paying.

If you’re in doubt, call the IRS directly at (800) 829.1040.Being cautious is safe. Ask questions and always verify the authenticity of a “bill collector”.

Education is an important first step toward a brighter future. Because First Credit Union embraces life-long learning, in 2006 we launched our College Scholarship Program and Youth Financial Education Grant Program. Both are available exclusively to First Credit Union members.

NEW for 2017! To celebrate the programs’ 10th anniversary, we’ve increased the college scholarship award from $500 to $1,000. We’ve also increased the youth financial education grant from $250 to $500.

College Scholarship Program. The refreshed program will recognize and reward up to three graduating high school seniors planning to enroll in a full-time course of

study at an Arizona university, college, or vocational school next fall.

Youth Financial Education Grant Program. The grant seeks to assist an educator or community group with funds for teaching financial education to children and teens.

Apply today! Get all the program details and download an application when you visit firstcu.net and click on Learn.
