Agree or Disagree1. The prime factorization of 24
would be 2 x 3 x 42. 233 is divisible by 4 because
the numbers add up to 83. The factors of 18 include
1,2,3,6,8, and 184. 63 is divisible by 7 5. Ms. Evans is from Minnesota

Getting to know your partner
I want you to turn to the person sitting next to you and come up with at least 4 things that you both like
Are these commonalities more like:
Factors or Multiples What is one thing that we all like?
This is our GREATEST COMMON FACTOR
![Page 14: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Our MissionTo find the Greatest Common
Factor between 2 or
more numbers
![Page 15: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
What is it?Greatest Common Factor
(GCF)- is the greatest (largest) of the common factors of two or more
numbers
![Page 16: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
There are 2 methods to finding the GCF
Method #1The Listing Method
![Page 17: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Steps
1. Write down the factors of each number
2.Circle the common factors.
3. The largest one is the Greatest Common Factor, or GCF
![Page 18: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Just WatchFind the GCF of 18 and 241. 18: 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18 24: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 242. Common factors: 1, 2, 3,
and 63. The GREATEST common
factor is 6!
![Page 19: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
You Try! Find the GCF of each set of
numbers 1. 16 and 24
2. 18 and 36
![Page 20: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Is this method good?Advantages
This method is quick and easy for numbers we are
very familiar with 6, 8, 12, 10, 20
etc.
Disadvantages A huge disadvantage
to this method is that we can make mistakes very easily!
This is not the recommended method for solving most GCF problems.
![Page 21: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
Method #2
The Slide Method
![Page 22: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
The “Slide” method- The slide method helps us break numbers down by looking at common factors. It is very helpful for finding GCF
![Page 23: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
What it Looks Like24 and 36
Discuss in groups: How would you describe to find the GCF using the
Slide method
![Page 24: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
Steps to Slide Method 1. Begin by looking at
your two numbers- identify a common factor
2. Write the Common factor to the left, outside your “slide”
3. Divide all numbers by the common factor, and write them below the slide.
4. Look at your quotients from step 3- do you have any common
factors? If so repeat steps 2 and 3 until the quotients have no factors in common- it can take as many steps as you need to get there.
5. To find the GCF, multiply all the common factors (the numbers to the left outside the slide)
![Page 25: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
Let’s try together! a. 48 and 72
b. 96 and 112
![Page 26: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
AdvantagesIt’s the most
accurate and it helps with large
numbers. It is also the method we will
use for Least Common Multiple.
![Page 27: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
You Try! Complete the 6 problems
Choose any way you wish!
When you are done raise your hand and then help others in your group!

What if we have more than 2 numbers?
Use the slide method!
Do the same steps with three numbers!
Remember to pick a common factor for all 3 numbers!
16, 12 and 24

You Try! a. 24, 32 and 48
b. 120, 100, and 50
![Page 30: Monday, October 17 th](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022062310/56815f14550346895dcdde19/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
