October 2019
We were very pleased to receive a letter from Hon Alannah MacTiernan
MLC on Wednesday letting us know that the CRC’s are to be offered an
extension to the current contract from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2022,
subject to confirmation that the CRC has met its contractual
requirements under the current arrangement. This ensures our services
to you will continue for at least 2 more years. What the contracts will
look like will depend on a review which will be conducted by DPIRD.
Congratulations to our trainee Carla who married Beau Repacholi in
what was a well-kept secret, on 14th September at Esperance. We
wish you all the happiness for your future together.
Our AGM will be held on 30th October. Please consider joining our
committee. More details will be advertised soon.
We have been very fortunate to receive a number of grants since our
last newsletter, so look out for advertisements in this newsletter for
activities for Mental Health Week, Get Online Week and Children’s
Week. Unfortunately we were not successful in receiving the Seniors
Week grant, but we are still planning to go to Bruce Rock for this event -
see separate advertisement in this newsletter.
I will be away for three days attending the Linkwest conference, which is
a great chance to catch up with other CRC coordinators and learn from
the various speakers and workshops on offer.
Don’t forget the annual Kondinin Through the Lens photo competition -
entries have been extended to Friday4th October. Let us showcase
what we have to offer in Kondinin. Cash prizes will be on offer with
generous donations from Bankwest and the Shire of Kondinin.

Congratulations to Karl Keller who

Purple Bench Project Update
From this green
bench
To this purple
bench
Work is well underway on this project. The bench needs one more coat of paint
and will then be taken off the bricks and the plaque that reads “In honour of all vic-
tims of domestic homicide in WA. If you need advice and support please phone:
Womens DV helpline: 9223 1188 or 1800 007339,” will be attached. From 25th No-
vember to 10th December is 16 Days of activism to end violence against women -
therefore during that time we will have a launch event.
We have recently received a Shire community grant in which we used to purchase
an Epson Photo Printer. This printer is able to print different sizes with matte or
glossy finish. The widest paper is A4 size and you can print up to 1 metre long
photos. Carla and I are getting a training
session on Wednesday, but in the meantime
we are able to use the printer to print off photos
for the upcoming photo competition. Photos
need to be on a thumbdrive or emailed to
[email protected] and we can put them onto
a thumbdrive for printing.
Thank you to everyone that helped to
complete the latest puzzle which was a
scene in Adelaide.
Our next puzzle is one of those in
which the completed picture is not the
same as on the box.
R U Ok Day?
This was held on September 12th.
A lot of information about how to
check in with someone was posted
on our Facebook page. We offered
free coffee for customers on
Thursday and Friday. I had invited
the children for free milo on Thurs-
day but unfortunately the
message didn’t get to them, but we
nearly had the whole school drop in
on Friday for their free drink and it
was a good chance to see how they
were all going.

Recent Event Wrap-Up
We have had a few events recently which have had varied participation.
On the 6th October seven ladies attended Adult Learner’s Week pop-up learning
event. Carla had been busy creating different brain challenging puzzles which she
used on our Facebook page and this generated a lot of interest. I started of the
event by going through a basic guide on how to solve cryptic crosswords. It was
then time for the ladies to test what they had learnt and once realising that you
can’t look at the clue as a whole, they started to work out the clues. A quiz
followed where participants had to move to a corner of the room that had A, B, C, D
labelled. A multiple choice question was given and you had to choose which
answer you thought was correct and move to that letter. These ladies were pretty
clever and it took a few questions before we got down to the winner. Well done
Linda. Colouring-in bookmarks were available for when they had strained their
brain enough. A lovely morning tea was made available through an Early bird grant
of $250 which we were lucky enough to receive and participants each got to take a
gift home.
On Friday 27th September we held our Be Connected Community Engagement
Event - Cuppas, Cakes and Computers. Over thirty invitations were sent out, so it
was disappointing to only have five people turn up. Nevertheless we spent time
investigating the Be Connected learning topics and then finished off with some fun
activities such as finding our childhood home on Google Earth and finding out
what day our birthday will be on in 2025. As we had received a grant for this event
we had a beautifully catered morning tea available for participants.
The Be Connected website works through topics from the very basic parts of the
computer to more specialised topics such as using a tablet. If you would like more
information regarding this training drop
into the CRC and we will be happy to set
you up with your learning.

Soft Plastics
Drop-Off Point The Kondinin Community Resource Centre will be a drop-off point for soft plastics.
These plastics will then be transported to a REDcycle drop off bin.
WHAT IS SOFT PLASTIC?
*Soft plastic CAN be scrunched into a ball. Examples of what are soft plastics
*Plastic needs to be dry and as
empty as possible.
The CRC has a comprehensive list
of what can and can’t be recycled
through the REDcycle program.
Any questions please contact the
CRC on 9889 1117.
If anyone is regularly heading to Narrogin or anywhere there is a
Coles or Woolworths and wouldn’t mind taking our collection of
soft plastics there, please contact the CRC.
Glitter Bar We are looking for someone to
volunteer to run a Glitter Bar at our
Children’s Week Bush Fairy
Picnic. This would involve doing
children’s hair either braiding or
adding colour and sparkles.
Equipment would be provided. If
you are interested please contact
the CRC.
Toni will be taking these items to
Conference where staff from Linkwest will
be putting together the bags and
delivering to the appropriate places.
