Official Opening Event: The Baby’s Voice
*A baby-friendly event Aimed at: Early years workforce and volunteers, healthcare workforce, expectant families, families with babies aged up to 2 years Better Start Bradford invites you to the second annual Baby Week Bradford launch event. Led by
local early years experts, this event will focus on how critical the earliest years of life are and
explore the district’s offer to babies and their families.
Keynote speaker, Rachel Wild (Specialist Midwife with Better Start Bradford), will consider how all
of us begin our encounters with maternity services as babies. She’ll pose the questions:
• What would every baby need so that they had an equal chance of a healthy and happy life?
• How do we change our thinking and actions for care in pregnancy, birth, and a baby's first
year, so everyone has an equal chance of the best start in life?
The Bloomin’ Buds Theatre Company will complement Rachel’s address with a special
performance of their acclaimed play Brenda’s Got a Baby, with an opportunity for discussion
afterwards.
After lunch, join one of the following sessions and/or explore the exhibition area:
Workshop 1: Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust (BDCT) presents the film Tigers
This film is a true story of a former Nestle baby milk salesman in Pakistan and how he took on the
formula industry after discovering their baby milk formula had killed hundreds of babies. This 90-
minute film, in English and Urdu, is being screened during Baby Week Bradford to promote the
district-wide breastfeeding strategy.
The screening will be followed by an audience Q&A with Jane Dickens, Strategic Breastfeeding
Lead, BDCT
