Tips For Choosing The Right Community

As you begin your search, try not to get overwhelmed by too much information.Focus on what's important. Remember, while amenities matter it's the people(residents & staff) that truly make a difference. You want a community with anengaging & social atmosphere-where the residents are friendly and the staff iscaring and warm.

Assisted Living Checklist:

{ As you arrive at the community, does it feel inviting? Even from theoutside?

y' Does the community appear clean, airy and free of unpleasant odors?{ Is the d6cor attractive and home-like?/ Does the staff know residents by name and interact warmly with

them?{ Arethe caregivers smiling?{ Do the residents appear happy and comfortable?y' Are current residents appropriate housemates?/ Are there hobbies & activities that your loved one would enjoy?/ Ask about meals, menus and dietary accommodations. Taste the food./ How does the community handle emergency situations?{ Are there nurses on staff or on call? How many hours?/ Atwhat point would you be required to move somewhere else?{ Are there pets in the community to enjoy? What are the guidelines in

bringing your pet?

Yes, the community that you consider should be clean, well maintained andequipped to provide the appropriate care both now and later. However the mostimportant factor when choosing an assisted living community is that it feelsfriendly, safe, and comfortable to you. A place where youfeel the most at home.
