The highly styled character of aPericline Series Luminaire tends 1()

conceal the fact that it is a powerfullighring tool. No compromises have

been made in its optical design for thesake of appearance. As illustrated inFigure 1 below, every Pericline pro-vides: 1)Sharp cutoft of tixture brighr-ness at normal viewing angles forincreased comfort, visibility, and controlof light trespass; 2) High angle, high

candlepower main beam enabling widespacing Ior systems energy elficiency;

3) Controlled. unrform lrght distribution ensuring excellent maximum,/minimum unilorm ity ratios whichcontributes to outstanding systemsvisibility.

Sharp cutoff optical systen producesglare free, unilorn illunination

The Pericline Series employs a dualreflector optical system lFigure 2)thatprecisely distributes light over wideareas. Maximum intensities strike theground at approximalely 2% times theluminaire mounting height. The conven-tional "hot spot" beneath the luminatreis redistributed to provide increased

light between poles. Above 76o, thebeam ol light sharply diminishes, leav-ing the luminaire glare-free. This sharpcutoff results from Moldcast's patentedShary Cut1ff ledge. which is unique to theMoldcast Pericline Series, rendering allimitation Pericline units inlerior in termsof sharp cutoff. ln an outdoor environment, light which is produced at anglesabove 760 will enter normal viewingangles, causing disabling brightness.This area above 760 from vertical repre-sents the glare zone. However, in orderto provide the most ef{icient lumrnairespacing while maintaining glare control,a luminaire must produce peak candle-power as close to this 76o cutoff pointas possible. Moldcast has always usedthe strictest criteria in the outdoorlighting industry for measuring cutoffperformance, embodied in our 1O,/1Otheory ol sharp cutofl. Thrs defrnittonrequires peak candlepower to be nomore than 1Oo below the sharp cutotlpoint, and sharp cutoff to be a reductionoI intensity to less than 1O percent ofpeak candlepower at any angle in theglare zone.

Area lighting luminaires producing a broadthrow of illumination can occasionally causeproblems because of light trespassjng ontoneighboring properties. The Pericline,through its patented opiical system, has the

unique ability o precisely cut short the throwof light in any given direction withoutaffecting the distribution in other areas andwithout changing the daytime appearance ofthe luminaire. This feature allows poles to befreely posrlioned as requred bv the asrhetic

and functional needs of a site with illumination sharply cut oft at or near the propertyline in problem locations.Two "House Side Cutoff" distributions areoffered as options with ail Pericline models.

The "Short" House Side CLrtoff (C45) stopsthe throw of light on one side of theluminaire ai approximately 1% moLrntingheights out trom the base of the pole (seephotometric chart to left below). Thisdistribution provides an illuminated traffic

Pole shafts are seamless, extrudedaluminum, 6063 T6 alloy, having a 4",5" or 63/q" square or round cross section(see selectron chan). All poles rermtnatpin a 23/a" O.D. by 4" high tenon andhave a cast aluminum base welded tothe bottom of the shaft. Anchoragehardware, consisting of (4) galvanizedsteel anchor bolts, nuts, shims andtemplate, is turnished. All welds areheat treated to regain the originaltem per.

The luminairePericline Series shall be Moldcast Lighting,Cataloguse with ala mp.

General

(Connon to all Perieline series):Electrical

The luminaire shall be U.L. listed (and carry alabel)

suitable for outdoor wet locations.Ballast shall be high power factor, constantwattage autotransformer (CWA) or highreactance autotranstormer type suitable for-20oF operation. HPS ballasts with +/-5%line voltage shall provide lamp wattagewithin the ANSI C78 trapezoid ljmitations forthe specified lamp. Metal Halide ballast with+/-1Oo/o line vohage tegulation shall providelamp wattage within +/- 1Oo/o ol ftied.

The luminaire shall be prewired with typeSFF-2 silicon insulated, stranded wired ratedfor 1sOoC. Leads shall be brought outthrough the sliplitter with at least 12 inchesextending to facilitate line connection.

Finish

The luminaire shall be finished with apremium, abrasion and fade resistant,electrostatically applied, oven cured polyesterpowder coating. The coating shall be anominal 2.0 mils thick. The color shall be{refer to available color). All hardware shallbe stainless steelor coated for corrosionresistance,

Construction

The lumrnarre shall consist of three basicconstruction elements: 1) an upper,aluminum housing; 2)a lower, clear plasticenclosure and 3) a support assembly. The

support assembly shall be designed to rigjdlysupport the upper housing so that no weightor lorce beyond that required to compress thegasketrng shall bear on the lower, plasticenclosure. Also the loss or failure of theplastic enclosure shall not render theluminaire inoperable or expose the lamp todirect rainfall. Other construction detailsshall be as described below. {Refer toapplicable Pericline Series.)

Shall be ot aluminum construction with agasketed, removable top access cover torrelamping. The upper housinq shall containthe collecting reflector which surrounds thelamp. lt shall be furnished with a concealedspider bracket (of diecast aluminum in theSmall Luminaire models and of coated steelin the lntermediate and Large Luminairemodels) which rigidly connects to the supportassembly yet allows removal of the upperenclosure for servicing the plastic enclosureand ballast.

Lower. Plastic Enclosure

Shall be clear, U.V. resistant acrylic. Theenclosure shall be injection molded in theSmall Rectilinear model (Series 71000) andfabricated of 74" thick material in thelntermediate and Large Rectilinear models{Series 76000 and 77000) and all threeCylindrical models (Series 72O0O, 78000 and79000). Polycarbonate and DR acrylic enclo-sures are available (see ordering informationfor applicability). Gasketing between theplastic enclosure and the upper housing atthe top and the support assembly at thebottom shall provide bug-tight weathertightoperation.

Support AssenblyShall consist of a steel f.ame hidden withinthe distributing reflector which fastens to thespider bracket of the upper housing andsupports the ballast. The steel frame shall beconnected to an aluminum neck,/litter whichsupports the plastic enclosure and whichterminates in a slipfitter designed for a 27s"O.D. by 4" high tenon for mounting theluminaire.

Photonetric PerfornanceThe lighting system, when installed, shallmeet lhe requirements specified in the plans-lndividual Iuminaires composing the systemshallpe orm in accordance with the isofootcandle distribution curves relerenced and,/orshown in the plans. Also, the individual lumi,naires are to specitrcally meet the followingcritjcal pertormance criteria:

1. The peak intensityshall occur no lower

than 67o above vertical2. The sharp cutolf point (i.e. that pointlocated upward trom the peak angle atwhich beam intensity talls to less than1,/1oth that ofthe peak)shall occur nohigher than 10o above the angle ol peakintensity.

3. No angle above sharp cutolf shall have abeam intensity greater than 1/lOththatof the peak.

0ptical SystenThe luminaire shall employ a dual reflectoroptical system consisting of upper collectingreflector and a lower distributing reflector.Both the upper and lower reflectors shall bespun aluminum, with specular Alzak finish.The lamp shall be vertical burning base

The optical system shall be so designed as toprovide the photometric performance spec-ified- Also, it shall include provision for field(or factory) installation of "snap-in" distribution modifying elements. These distribu,tion modifying elements shall be optionallyavailable as follows: 1)Asymmetric distri,bution, 2) "Short" house side cut-off, and 3)"Full" house side cut-otf. The design ot thedistribution modifying elements shall be suchthat they are concealed by the luminaireupper enclosure and do not in any way affectthe daytime appearance of the luminaire.

Traditional - Series 73000Upper Enclosure

The Upper Enclosure shall be an assemblywith an ornamentalexternal design asdetailed in the plans. h shall consist of ahinged top assembly housrng. the auxiliarycollecting ref lector, the collecting rellectorand a lower support frame. The assemblyshall be Iabricated all aluminum constructionand shall be formed from 14 gauge alumi.num sheet. The top assembly shall beattached to the lower support frame by meansof two hinges and shall be fastened in placeby means of screws on the side opposite thehinges.

Iower EnclosureThe Lower Enclosure shall be single piece,

vacuum molded, UV stabilized, clear acryliclens approximately 1 1.25" high, 8.75"square at the bottom and 16.5" square at thetop. The lens shall be designed such that ittits securely within the corner lrames formedby the lens lrame portion of the upperhousing support. Gasketing shall be spongeneoprene and shall be bonded to the upperhousing support frame and lower enclosuresupport plate. The gaskets shalllorm apositive seal against the top and bottom ofthe plastic enclosure to provide bugtight,weathertight operation. (Note: An optionalpolycarbonate lens is available).

Upper EnclosureThe Upper Enclosore shall be an assemblywith an ornamental external design asdetailed in the plans. lt shall consist of ahinged top assembly housing, the auxiliarycollecling ref lector, the collecting ref lectorand a lower support frame. The assemblyshall be fabflcated all alumrnum construcuonand shall be spun from 14 gauge aluminumsheet. The top assembly shall be atlached tothe lower support frame by means of a hingeand shall be fastened in place by means of ascrew. The lower support frame shall besecurely attached to the yoke support ring bymeans of four (4) screws working throughkeyhole slots.

Lower Enelosure

The lower enclosure shall be one piece,injection molded polycarbonate with a U.V.resistant coating. The enclosure shall have adiameter of 13" and shall be 1 5%" high witha clear upper section, 1 13la" high, and adiffuse lower section. Gasketing shall bebonded to the upper housing support ringand lower enclosure support plate. Thegaskets shallform a positive seal against thetop and bottom of the plastic enclosure toprovide bugtight, weathertighl operation.

Support AssenblyThe Support Assembly shall be an all

aluminum construction f abricated assemblyconsisting of a yoke,/upper housing support,cast aluminum lens,/ballast support and castaluminum slipfrtter. The ballast shall bemounted to the lower support plate and shallbe concealed by a white polyester powdercoated, spun aluminum enclosure. (Note:Theballast enclosure itself shall be concealed bythe ditfuse bottom of the lensi. The sliptittershall accommodate a lenon zys" O.D. hy 4"high or 3" O.D. by 37r" high in the singleluminaire models, 2%" O.D. by 4" high onlyin the multiple luminaire models.
