Oregon FFA State Degree:
State degree applicants spend a large sum of time organizing their
records. Records must include 25 hours of community service, show
growth with your SAE project equal to $1500.00 earned or 1500 hours of
time spent, actively participate on 2 FFA committees in addition to 30
different FFA activities, and a minimum of 2 activities outside of FFA.
Beyond the records, the applicant must have given a 6 minutes speech
or presentation inside or outside of the classroom, served as a FFA
officer, and pass a test on parliamentary law. Records is only one form or
documentation, there is an
application and presentation
assessed by industry
members who declare the
member as meeting the
expectations to receive their
state degree. Clarissa Turpin
(pictured below) is our first
member to receive their
Oregon State Degree.
Congratulations! She will
receive her degree at the

you all there.

Treasurer : State convention money is due this week. Please get them
into the receipt box posted on the wall in the classroom. (Lily Eisele).
THIS MONTH’S
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Fair : Reminder March 14th is weigh-in day for all steers. Meetings every
Monday during lunch. We will be working on buyer letters and
completing baseball cards. All fair kids, make sure you are spending
quality time with your animals - training a minimum of 4 days a week in
addition to 2 feedings a day. Multiple short amounts of quality time
training gets a better result than fewer days with longer hours.
Frequency pays off - make the time.
Banquet : Mohawk FFA Spring awards banquet has been rescheduled.
We’ve had feedback that isn’t a good day either, so we will keep you
posted.
Fundraiser : We will be doing some apple tree trimming for Ms. Rylands,
dates will be posted in the classroom. We are hoping for good weather.
CDE Tracking : Forestry practices are 10-12 on Fridays. The next practice
will be the 13th of March. Poultry judging practice will be on the 13th as
well from 1230 - 230. Due to State Convention, we are only practicing
this month - days and times for food science and dairy judging will be
coming up.
Community Service: We have an upcoming community service project
which will be on Friday the 6th at 12pm. We will be applying cover
stickers to our new recycling bins and then dispensing them around the
Elementary and High school classrooms.

A Word From Our Reporter I am Clarissa Turpin the Mohawk FFA Chapters Secretary. Poultry CDE is
my favorite CDe and I’m excited to get started. Th is month our team will
start practicing for district and then for state! Hopefully we will be able
to succeed in state to make it to nationals. Last month I prepared a
presentation to earn my FFA State Degree. I passed all my requirements
and will be receiving my degree at the 2020 FFA State Convention. I am
proud to be the first member from the Mohawk FFA Chapter to receive
my FFA State Degree. I’m looking forward to seeing many follow in my
footsteps.
