The focus is on identifying andgraphing different types of functions, solving linear and quadratic equations and inequalities, solvingsystems of linear equations, performing operations on exponential and logarithmic expressions, usingintegrationanddifferentiation,computinginterest,calculatingthefuturevalueofaprincipalunderannualcompounding and becoming competent at symbolicmanipulation of relevant equations and expressionspertaining to the mathematics of business applications. Another emphasis is on obtaining skills in usingcomputer software to assist in the formulation, analysis of, and solution of real problems. The goal is toprovidethestudentwithasetoftoolstoacquiretheabilitytoread,write,listentoandspeakmathematicswithintheframeworkofabusinesscontext.Thestudentwillleavethecoursewithabasicunderstandingofhowtomanipulatemathematicsindifferentbusinessapplications.

2 QuantitativeMethodsQM306:Themainpurposeofthiscourse inQuantitativeMethods inBusiness istointroducethestudenttotechniquesinOperationsManagement.OperationsManagementisthesystematicapproach and control of the processes that transform inputs (e.g. human resources, facilities,materials,etc.) into finishedgoodsandservices.Theoperationfunction isoneof the importantcoresofabusiness.This course provides theoretical background and practice in the use of mathematical tools for aidingmanagerial decision-making in the corporate and public sectors.
