ITM School of management is located on the outskirts of Gwalior (M.P) as a par t of the ITM Universe campus. The Design is conceived to respond the harsh climate of M.P. with its deep verandahs, semi covered and lot of shaded outdoor spaces for the purpose of natural climate control and ventilation. The concept is based on the Principles of an Indian Courtyard where the liveable spaces look into the semi-shaded landscaped court and receive a soft diffused sunlight. The look and feel of the building clearly defines an institution where the generation of tomorrow confidently walks out to manage the corporate affairs of the nation. The architecture is clearly an expression of solidity with class.

The Idea for this amphitheatre for ITM campus started more as a performance arena at an institutional level. The site offered an undulation of levels on the three sides forming a clear valley for us to make the amphitheatre bowl sit well within. The Challenge was posed by the client to complete the project within 55 days. it took us more than 600 hrs on the drawing board and more than 450 labourers working day and night to accomplish the job well within time. The cantilevered steel ‘Piano’ roof truss was custom designed as an artistic gesture to lighten the solidity of the entire form, provide a cover for the performing artists and hang sound and light equipment for a show.

The concept of the building design was to provide the sensitivity & solace in the midst of the state of the Art facilities much like those involved in the profession of International business & Financial Research. Designed for the hot and dry climate of Gwalior, the idea was to create shaded semi open spaces for student interactions. The use of the parasol roof and the stone jaaliwork protects the west facing building from the harsh summer sun drastically reducing the air conditioning loads. Seen as a statement from the highway NH-75, the over proportioned roof takes the functionality to define the style of architecture that is basic yet ef fect ive.

The main buildings are envisioned as three separate organic forms intersecting each other, tied together with a common curved wall. Design has been detailed with numerous playful spaces, even the flooring has patterns of board games, which the kids can identify and enjoy. Intent was to make a building with an open plan, porous facade and thick walls in South and South-West direction to create an effective thermal mass against the harsh sun, maintaining cool interior spaces. Most unique feature of this project is the processing of all building material on the site itself. Compressed Stabilized Blocks and Precast Louvers with an effective mix of earth obtained in excavation were used in construction. Dholpur has been used for cladding.

The site is a relatively flat land with lots of wild vegetation. I m m e n s e p r e s e r v a t i o n o f trees on site derived the built form. Building facade is an intricate composite of diverse sizes of steel plates which will be molded on site providing employment and opportunities to the local craftsmen. It is a reflective feature that disperse the harsh sunlight and reduce the overa l l thermal ga ins . The site was planned in two s e g m e n t s : s t a f f q u a r t e r s a n d s t u d e n t h o s t e l s . Hostel Block employs smart tactics to accommodate existing High Tension line bisecting the site, recognizing the constraint as an advantage. The design is modular with central courtyard creating sufficient buffer and recreational zones for the students.

Keeping in harmony with Amritsar as a city with its strong orientation towards spor ts, the design developed with a special emphasis over retaining a sound space for the program. The overall space is divided into two separate sections; kindgergarten and primary with a faculty block entwined between the two. The form was derived from the idea of a compressed ice block with sparks of fire scattered and set ablaze over it. With time, as the ice melts it creates small chasms cutting through the mass. These scooped out spaces create a dramatic play of mass and voids, revealing many a paths perchance from utilitarian interiors into open and interactive outdoor programs.

The project involves creating a world class shooting academy for The Ministry of Sports & Youth Welfare. Based on International s t a n d a r d s , t h e a c a d e m y comprises of 3 individual ranges; 10m, 25m, 50m and a twin set of trap & skeet ranges. The Concept was derived from the dynamics of undulating site and the functionality. In order to make the institution self-sufficient towards the water requirement we created a 3.5 acre catchment basin. The water collected during the monsoons would serve the landscaping and the human requirement for at least 8-9 months a year, also providing the required calm and serene water body essential for the shooters.

To d e a l w i t h t h e i s s u e of rapid population growth, a redeve lopment p lan was proposed by MOFA with the support of Tara co-operative society. The Idea was to explore the vertical skyline as proposed in the 2021 master plan of Delhi, safeguarding the sensibilities of horizontal living spaces. To make the dwelling places eco friendly, sustainable, beautiful and funct iona l , the des ign proposed 60 additional flats, besides adding accessible visible gardens, light and ventilation, greenery and reducing hard ground coverage. A parking space for 450 vehicles was added to this provision, which granted stepping and massing features to new flats to enable the feel of ‘Bungalows suspended in the air’.

The requirement of the club was more to do with the utilitarian needs of the inhabitants for a coffee shop, swimming pool, a spa and a gymnasium at a more personal community level. Designed as an isolated pod, at the corner of the site overlooking the expressway, the idea was to create a more intimate space mainta in ing the communal privacy. The adaptation of the concept was from a traditional courtyard space that lies at the center of the activity space within the realms of Indian community.The swimming pool became the center. Rest of the spaces were located around the pool and their terraces treated as permanent roof gardens reducing the load on cooling as well as adding a lovely roofscape for the residents above.

Abutting Jim Corbett National Park, Bijrani Range and Dhela river is the Golden Tusk. Designed as a true Agro Resort. The design intent was to give a firsthand experience of countryside living to the urban t rave lers and sensitize them to the idea of living with nature, effectively utilizing resources and minimizing waste. Apart from being amidst nature in the cottages that resonate the local materials expressed in a contemporary design, the program also includes an animal farm with poultry, cattle, goats, fish and even an elephant for the rides around the forest. Built with locally available materials, the design emphasis was in developing a rich experience t h r o u g h a c o s m o l o g i c a l relationship between the user and the pure surrounding nature.

A Gastro Pub designed in the Capital ’s Khan Market. The design draws its inspiration f rom the I r ish Pubs dot ted across Dublin. Spread over two floors- The lower level is the bar while the upper is the restaurant. Elements like brick lined barrel vaulted ceiling and wrought iron bulbs renders the space a stark imagery of railway tunnel mechanics working during the locomotive era of England. The overall design of the restaurant influences an ambience which gives one get away from a busy life and also brings the culture of spending time with friends, hav ing fun over foods and drinks in a formal environment yet leaving room for all the freewheeling conversations.

Commissioned through a design competition, it houses about 200 officials, scientists and a devoted work force responsible for making & implementing policies, research and formulating norms for keeping the capital Pollution free. Here the building acts as an ‘Urban Sponge’ feeding on polluted air & water of its micro climate and giving out clean air & water back to the Environment much like the Aquatic sponge. Multiple layers of philosophy, Technology, vision and function shaped the final design of the Building which will also host a permanent exhibition on Green Technologies and Innovations as an awareness drive in its Plaza and Exhibition Center for the people to learn and percolate the information,

A group responsible for 10 inflight magazines spanning 4 countries. An Office which is always on the go, usually buzzing with creative ideas, colours, fonts and stories, it was extremely important for us to give them a wide canvas, an open platform where each volatile idea gets captured wel l nour ishing a suitable creative environment. The design language is kept simple with industrial overtones through the use of exposed steel structure and all the service ducts and conduits. The overall white and neutral colour scheme is broken at the workstations level, through the use of synchronized colours over the upholstery.

F o u n d e d i n 2 0 0 8 , D e l h i Daredevils is a cricket franchise representing the city of Delhi in the Indian Premier League. The office is planned as a youth oriented semi-formal open plan with multiple overlaps between working and meeting areas. The idea was to blur the lines between work-play-meet spaces in order to get the sporting energy vibe throughout the office. Apart from a formal conference room meant for sponsor meetings, we introduced two more meeting areas. One near the reception as an informal discussion/ ideation space that could be reorganized in mu l t ip le con f igura t ions and the other space cal led “the think tank lounge” as an ideal ‘work-play-meet’ space.

A house where not only the walls appear to be floating over the floors but, they also twist, turn and reshape to suit the functional requirements of the inmates. The house was acquired as a bare structure from the developer, from where we started adding various layers right from the services to the skins and surfaces. The vertical surfaces are constructed using the dry wall construction. The fluid walls, ceilings and the furniture pieces; the melting dining table, kids beds, are all created using layered plywood sheathed under a layer of Ferro-cement. The L.E.D. strips are used on the underside of the floating walls to act as floor markers in the night and also to enhance the layered ceiling in the master bedroom.

The Ministry of Sports & Youth Welfare marked out a 173 acre land for the development of a world class sports complex on the outskirts of the city Bhopal (M.P.) As a gesture to encourage various sports facilities within the state the program included a cricket stadia, 2 multipurpose indoor halls, an aquatic centre, tennis courts and various outdoor pitches. An 18 hole golf course was also included so as to act as a national level venue for the golfing tournaments. We included housing for the players, a convention centre with auditorium and a hotel facility for the visitors.

‘WHITE’, a brand campaign by GodfreyPhilips came up to us with the brief to design a private space for smoking class, the modules of which were to be put at various malls and airports across India. A dedicated effort to curb the issue of public smoking in busy areas, the idea will not only help in lessening the unease of non smokers but will also foster mutual respect amid the two classes. Our proposal followed a strategy of not just providing a separate cubicle for smokers, but to create a wel l equipped comfor table lounge experience. To create an unrivalled identity of the brand, extensive customisation was done including light fixtures, furniture and other related accessories, m a k i n g i t a n e x c l u s i v e go- to p lace for the users .

TONI&GUY Salon, a UK brand established in 1963, has sheer global presence and is deemed as a super brand in the hairdressing and fashion industry for i ts cutting-edge style and innovation. We came with a design that depicted the drama created by flowing tresses formed by ceiling suspended partitions appearing to be held in various places with thin comb like louvers. The result came as a dynamic open plan with different activities merging together yet with an intact privacy all throughout. The ceil ing panels f inds i ts purpose both as partitions and a distinct art statement. Each pair of the styling section is divided by ceiling suspended mirrors placed back to back, which helps in optimising the floor space for much working ease.

The concept here is chic, umber and international styling, keeping the palette black and white, the bling is minimal and accentuated in design. A snug fit, slick, black and white interior welcome you into a glamorous world of styling and high end makeup studio. The feel is of walking into an international fashion brand and chain akin to the brand identity. The reception with its white backdrop gives the perfect background to the black crystal chandelier. Leather upholstery, glossy mosaics, controlled bursts of colour, mirror and green tinged glass; all provide for a glossy upscale clientele the experience this international brand conveys even in its styling and makeup.

MONSOON SALONVASANT KUNJ/GURUGRAM

The ideation was done in a way that we kept bare essentials, discarded the fuss, and came out with a more abstracted outlook, yet exemplifying the brand’s Identity. The concept is born out of the idea of post monsoon effect after a course of scorching summer heat. The selection of material is kept to its purest tone and form. Red corporate color of Monsoon is averted and a fairly clean and neutral color palette is introduced in the interiors. Extensive use of wooden planks and exposed brick walls with controlled lighting plunges to relax the senses, serving as a sanctuary to pamper one outright. Back to back in-lit mirrors where artificial light is evenly washed to brighten up the atmosphere divides the space yet keeps it open and aglow.
