Module A

Lesson 3: TI-Nspire Technology in a strong learning environment

Page 3: Module A Concepts and value of TI-Nspire™ Technology

In the previous lesson you learned that…

• TI-Nspire Technology gives huge possibilities: multiple representations of the same problem will help students to understand the problem better.

• All the applications are dynamically linked to each other, which helps students to think in different ways.

• A strong and dynamic spreadsheet, linked to all other TI-Nspire applications helps to analyze data, stored in tables.

• TI-Nspire Technology is a strong calculation tool that saves time, so you have more chances to explore math.

• During science experiments the Vernier Dataquest™ application can collect real data which can be used in other TI-Nspire applications.

• TI-Nspire Technology is document-based, so students and teachers have access to their files everywhere they want.

TI-Nspire™ Technology

In this lesson you will:

• See how special tools of the TI-Nspire software create a complete learning environment to study math and science.

• Learn how document management software like TI-Nspire Computer Link works together with TI-Nspire Technology.

• Get to know on-line resources for students and educators who would like to use TI-Nspire Technology.

TI-Nspire Student software

• In the Notes-application the user can prepare questions and answers.• For example, the teacher can prepare questions for the students, so

that every student can take his time to answer all the questions.• Because this tool is available in the student software, students can also

use the tool to create questions.

TI-Nspire Teacher software

• The TI-Nspire Teacher Software has an extra application to create questions for assessments.

• The available template categories to create questions are:

• Multiple Choice• Open Response• Equations and Expressions• Coordinate Points & Lists• Image• Chemistry

TI-Nspire Teacher software

• Another extra tool in the TI-Nspire Teacher software is the TI-SmartView Emulator.

• The emulator’s features integrate well with interactive whiteboards and digital projectors. You get a resizable handheld view - full or keypad only - and the functionality on-screen is the same as if you were using a TI-Nspire Clickpad, TI-Nspire Touchpad or TI-Nspire CX Keypad.

• This view is floatable and can always be in front of all the other opened windows.

TI-Nspire Navigator™ Teacher software

• The TI-Nspire Navigator solution is a wireless classroom learning system that is shown by research to engage students, encourage classroom participation and increase achievement.

• Through a wireless network of TI-Nspire or TI-Nspire CAS handhelds or laptops, the TI-Nspire Navigator system enables a new dimension of interactive teaching and learning with:

• Instant Assessment: With quick polls and screen captures, teachers can instantly gauge understanding and adjust instruction based on student progress.

• Increased Student Engagement: Any student can present their work from anywhere in the room. Teachers can redirect their lesson to target their students' problem areas.

• Maximized Classroom Learning Time: Wirelessly transfer documents and collect, grade, save and record students' work, leaving more time for instruction and interaction in the classroom.

TI-Nspire Computer Link software

Educators and students can quickly and easily link a single handheld (TI-Nspire or TI-Nspire CAS model) to a single classroom or lab computer. The software lets you:• Capture screen images for use in

documents from handheld to computer;• Back up and transfer files between

handheld and computer;• Update the handheld's operating system

from the Internet.

TI-Nspire Document Player

• A free tool that enables you to share and explore TI-Nspire documents created with TI-Nspire Computer software.

• You can open, view, interact, save, print and share TI-Nspire documents, including PublishView™ documents.

• It's free and is also available online.

TI Activities center

• Since TI-Nspire is document-based it’s very easy to exchange files with colleagues.

• TI encourages every educator to work with the on-line activities exchange center.

Math Nspired and Science Nspired

• Combining classroom-ready lessons with self-paced online professional development resources, Math Nspired and Science Nspired utilize the power of TI-Nspire technology to help students build a deeper understanding of the math or science concepts that they struggle with the most.

• Designed to be used by new educators as well as their experienced colleagues, Math Nspired and Science Nspired feature a variety of lessons that can be taught “as is” or modified by educators to meet the needs of their students. In addition, Math Nspired include a selection of blended professional development opportunities that can be customized to meet educator, school and district needs.

• Similar initiatives are being developed for other countries.

13 | Lesson A.3

In this lesson you learned that…

• TI-Nspire Technology not only focuses on math and science but also on how educators can integrate technology in an efficient way into their classes.

• The TI-Nspire Teacher Software has extra tools for presentation and assessment.

• Additional software like TI-Nspire Computer Link helps to manage documents.

• Students who don’t have TI-Nspire Technology at home can use the free document player and open, view, interact, save and print TI-Nspire documents, including PublishView documents.

• TI invests in online resources like the Activities center, Math Nspired and Science Nspired to help students and educators to work with TI-Nspire Technology.
