The 1992 Olympics were held

in Barcelona,  Spain, between July 25 and August 9,

1992. 9356 athletes participated

in from169 countries

competing in 28 sports and 257

specialties and were

considered at the time

as the best ever. For the

occasion, completely remodeled

 Montjuic Stadium and

numerous sports halls were

built, the most emblematic of

them was the Palau Sant Jordi.

For the first time any

country boycotted the

Olympics.Mandela's South Africa was welcomed back on

the International Scene and

Germany competed as a unified

country after the fall of the

Berlin Wall in 1989. Even Afghanistan

participated in the Inaugural Ceremony,

despite having no athlete ready

to compete in the games.

The opening ceremony was

spectacular and it is estimated

that on television was followed

by 2,000 million people worldwide. Many people

said that the opening ceremony

of Barcelona was the best that

had been cast at the time

because was amazing.

won six gold medals.
