Dear Model A Friends,

I can’t believe it is October and the year is winding down. At the Board meeting last night, all the talk was of the upcoming Fall Fo-liage Tour. The last count was 37 Model A’s and 71 people. I think that may be a record attendance. Everything is set up and Rick and Kent say we are ready to go. I can’t wait. It is going to be great fun.

Then the weekend after we return, we have the Red Ribbon Pa-rade in Moore that is always well attended. Hope your car is ready for all of these activities and we will see you there.

The Beauty and the Beast Auction was a great success last month. Bill Jenkins will give a report at the October meeting on how much was made. The auctioneer did a great job of keeping us on our toes wondering if we were buying the item or not. I think some purchased items that they were not sure why they had bid on them but I guess that is half the fun and a few pounds has probably been gained from all of the Turtles that were sold. If you missed the auction, you missed a great time.

Keep those Model A’s purring and we’ll see you at the October 19th meeting.

Our 2010 Beauty and the Beast Auction was a huge success and a lot of fun. We would like to thank everyone who brought items and also to those that

bought items, whether you knew it or not. We made $912 for our club.

We would also like to thank Willie Ratter-man for doing the auctioning. He really knows his business. We hope to have an-other Beauty and the Beast Auction next year, who knows it might become an

annual event.

I think we should have it on a Saturday so we don’t have to hurry and eat, and have more time to fight over “prize” items.

So don’t throw away that good junk, and don’t pass up a good bargain while shop-

ping, just save it until next year!!

Thanks again, Sheryl & the Board members

If you would like to make a donation to our goodie bags for the Fall Tour, bring your items to the October Meeting and I will collect them. Thanks to the mem-

bers that have already donated.

The Bordwine Family

Bob and Joan

Our model A History starts back in the mid 80’s. Joan and I had purchased a small lake cabin at Ft. Cobb. Our two girls were in or had completed college. I was a mili-tary pilot with the Oklahoma Air National Guard. Joan and I used our lake cabin as a retreat on weekends to get away from the phone. Back then cell phones had not be-come the rage they are today. Our route to the cabin always took us thru Minco where a Model A Coupe set next to the highway. Each time we went to the lake I would mention the Model A as we passed. I made several inquiries about the car with negative results. One weekend upon returning home I found two A’s for sale down by Lexington. We made the trip to Lexington and I purchased our first A, a 1929 coupe. I started restoring the car in 1991 and completed it in 1992. I now had the A fever. I retired from flying in 1992 and was in a dire need of a hobby. Joan and I started buying Model A’s. During the early 90’s I restored 3 cars in our garage and I said that was enough. That’s when I met Jerry Amend who had just purchased an A that needed restoring. Jerry was in the process of just trying to get his running when he saw some of the club members’ cars. He wanted his A to look like the other club members cars. So Jerry and I restored his A back in about 1997. After restor-ing Jerry’s car, Jerry and I decided to build a storage building for our cars. With the help of several club members, Jerry and I built what is now called the barn. Jerry now has two A’s and I have four. The barn is a place where club members who need maintenance help bring their cars. Also the barn is where the guys meet each Mon-day for coffee.

Joan and I have enjoyed our 20 years in the club. We have served as several offi-cers in the club.
