3 Connections 3.1 Power Connections

3.1.1 Line Voltage – The Model 3204-6X6 operates from a line voltage in the range

of 120V to 240V at a frequency of 50 or 60Hz. Line voltage selection is automatic.

CAUTION: Operating the unit on an incorrect line voltage may cause damage, possibly voiding the warranty.

3.1.2 Line Power Connection – Perform the following steps to connect the Model 3204-6X6 to line power:

1. Connect the female end of the supplied power cord to a grounded AC receptacle on the rear panel.

2. Connect the other end of the supplied power cord to a grounded AC

outlet.

WARNING: The power cord supplied with the Model 3204-6X6 contains a separate ground for use with grounded outlets. Failure to use a grounded outlet may result in personal injury or death due to electric shock.

3.1.3 Line Fuse Replacement – A rear panel fuse protects the power line input of

the Model 3204-6X6. If the line fuse needs replacement, perform the steps below:

WARNING: Disconnect the line cord from the unit before changing the line fuse.

1. The fuse is located in a holder in the power module unit above the AC receptacle (figure 3-1). At top is a small tab, use a small bladed screwdriver to release the fuse holder.

2. Slide the fuse holder out to gain access to the fuse carrier and fuse.

3. Remove the carrier with the blown fuse, and replace with the correct

type listed in Table 3-1.

CAUTION: For continued protection against fire or unit damage, replace the fuse only with the type and rating listed.

4. Install the fuse carrier in the fuse holder, then insert the fuse holder back in the power entry module.

4 Configuring the Matrix 4.1 Configuring the Matrix

Before you configure your matrix, you will need to contact your network administrator to obtain the following information:

• an IP address for the matrix • TCP port number

Each device on your network must have a unique address so that all devices can communicate simultaneously over the same network. These unique addresses are called IP addresses, and are assigned by your network administrator. An IP address is a set of four decimal number, separated by periods, example 169.254.111.111. To set the IP address from the touch screen refer to section 5.6.4 Setup – Network Name and look under Port Number. CAUTION: It is important that no two devices are assigned the same IP address. Both devices may fail to communicate on the network. To set the TCP port from the touch screen refer to section 5.6.5.

4.2 MAC Address Your matrix has a unique built-in MAC address associated with the Ethernet card inside the matrix. The MAC address is a 48-bit number assigned at the factory. You don’t need to know the MAC address to configure your matrix.

4.3 Ethernet Connections To connect your Matrix to a LAN hub, the use of a “straight-through” cable is required. To connect to a single computer and avoid using a LAN hub, a special “cross-over” cable or adapter that acts like a LAN hub must be used. If you try to connect to a single computer using a “straight-through” cable, it will not work.

Page 16: Model 3204-6X6 Solid State Matrix System...1 1 General Information 1.1 Introduction The Dow-Key Microwave Model 3204-6X6 is a 6 x 6 full fan-out non-blocking solid state matrix that

10

Configuring the Matrix 4.4 Turning on the Unit

To turn on your matrix lift up the switch guard on the front panel and press the green button. The button will illuminate green and the LCD will also illuminate and Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Professional will start to load.

4.5 Calibrating the Touch Screen

To calibrate the touch screen use the stylus that was provided with the unit and click on the program “Cybertouch”. There are several tabs across the top, click on the tab “Calibrate”. This is a five point calibration. To start the calibration click on the button in the center called “Calibration”. With your stylus place on the upper left corner onto the flashing target and hold until it shows 100% complete. Follow this same process to the flashing upper right target, the flashing lower left target then the flashing lower right target and finally the flashing center target. Your touch screen is now calibrated. Note: To ensure proper operation of the touch screen the calibration procedure must be performed each time the unit is turned off and then back on.

4.6 Testing the Ethernet Communication You should now test the communication between your computer and your matrix. The ping utility is typically used to test this communication. Enter the following at the command prompt of a DOS window on your computer. Ping <IP address> <IP address> is the number that was assigned by your network administrator and was entered into your matrix in “Configuring the Matrix”.

If there is a valid working connection, you should see a response similar to this:

C:\>ping 169.254.111.111 Pinging 169.254.111.111 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 169.254.111.111: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64 Reply from 169.254.111.111: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=64 Reply from 169.254.111.111: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=64 Reply from 169.254.111.111: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=64 Ping statistics for 169.254.111.111 Packets: Sent=4, Received=4, Lost=0 (0% loss) Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum=2ms, Maximum=5ms, Average=3ms

11

Configuring the Matrix 4.7 Communication Problems

Your Matrix interface does not need or include any proprietary driver software. It was designed to operate with common network utilities and drivers. If the Matrix fails to communicate, contact your network administrator for additional assistance. If your network administrator is unable to locate the problem, please contact Dow-Key Microwave Corporation at 1-805-650-2325.

4.8 Power Failure If a power failure should occur, the matrix upon power up will set switches to last settings before the failure. Once the computer resets and the Dow-Key Microwave program is opened all paths should be displayed as before the power failure.

Remote Operation 6.1 Introduction

The following list of commands is what is supported by the 3204-6X6. These commands must be issued to the Ethernet interface and will not be recongnized on any other interface (i.e. RS-232 Console). All commands will return “OPC” for operation complete after the command that was set sent is completed. In the event the command returns a string, the requested string will be sent first, then “OPC” will be sent separately. (i.e. send “ROUTE:PATH3 ?” then return “OPC”).

6.2 Shortcuts Keywords may be used in their short or verbose form. A list of commands and their associated short form is listed below. None of the commands are case sensitive. The user is free to send upper or lower case commands. 1. ROUT, ROUTE 2. SYST, SYSTEM 3. ERR, ERROR

6.3 ROUTE:PATHx y

Syntax ROUTE:PATHx y X = Input Y = Output Description If output y is currently connected to different input, it will be disconnected from its current input and connected to input x. This will be reflected on the graphical touch screen display. By sending the command “ROUTE:PATH0 0” all paths will be cleared.

23

Remote Operation 6.4 ROUTE:PATHy?

Syntax ROUTE:PATHy? Y = Output

Description This command will return the current setting for output y in the form of

“PATHx,y”. x will be a number from 0-8 corresponding to the particular input with 0 meaning that it is disconnected.

6.5 ROUTE:PATH ALL?

Syntax

ROUTE:PATH ALL?

Description This command will return all path pairs separated by a semicolon “PATHx,y;PATHx,y;PATHx,y” X = Input Y = Output

6.6 *IDN?
