INSTRUCTIONS
1. There are two parts (A and B) in this paper. Candidates
should attempt Part A and ONE question from Part B.
2. After the announcement of the start of the examination, you
should first write your Candidate Number in the space
provided on Page 1.
3. For Part B, you should put an ‘X’ in the corresponding
question number box on Page 8 to indicate the question you
are going to attempt.
4. Write your answers in the space provided in this Question-
Answer Book. Answers written in the margins will not be
marked.
5. Do not use your real name in answering any of the questions.
If names are provided in the question, you must use those
names. If no name is provided and you still wish to use a
name to identify yourself, then use ‘Chris Wong’. If you need
to use names for other characters in the composition not
specified by the question, you may use names such as Mary,
Peter, Mr Smith, Ms Young, etc. You may lose marks if you
do not follow these instructions.
6. Rough work should be done on the rough-work sheets which
will be collected separately. These will not be marked.
7. Additional supplementary answer sheets will be supplied on

○1 You are Chris Wong. There is a large, empty room in the communal area of your building. The
building’s Owners’ Committee is considering how to utilize the room. Write a letter to the

○2 Learning English through Social Issues
On a recent trip overseas, you noticed how many places were built to accommodate wheelchair
users. This has made you reflect on how much more difficult it is for wheelchair users in Hong Kong
to get around and enjoy daily activities.
Write a letter to the editor of the Hong Kong Daily.
Introduce your experience and discuss ways in which changes can be made to make it easier for
wheelchair users in Hong Kong. Explain why you think this is important.
Include a subject heading for the letter.
○3 Learning English through Debating
Although Christmas is still several months away, you have noticed a number of festival-related
advertisements and promotions on television and in shopping areas. You feel this to be unnecessary
and negative.

Explain why you are against this and give reasons.

○4 Learning English through Sports Communication
You were considering joining a new gym in your area but were shocked to find out how much this
would cost. This has made you think more about free or cheaper alternatives to keep fit and active.

struggling with stress.

○7 Learning English through Poems and Songs
You have visited a new exhibition which tells the story of music in Hong Kong. It includes images,
information and interactive displays of local songs, musicians, events and other information related
to the music industry.

Describe some of the exhibits, how you felt about them and explain whether you think people
should visit the exhibition.

You work for an association that matches volunteers with various charities and organizations. Your
manager feels there is a need for more young volunteers to get involved.
