Leadership 440 OSP group 4 proposes the development of a Mobile Heath Clinic for Grand Traverse County to Provide access to medical services for the underserved people of Grand Traverse County regardless of ability to pay.1Mobile Health Clinic of Grand Traverse County

An increasing elderly population, economic downturn, financial, and geographic barriers create challenges to obtaining essential healthcare for citizens of Grand Traverse County. Implementing a mobile service that travels around the county offering basic health screenings, wellness checks, immunizations, and chronic health management services will lead to fewer emergency room visits and a healthier community. Working with Munson Medical Center, Munson Healthcare, and Munson Regional Foundation health services will be offered in a creative way supporting Munsons mission of a healthier community. Decreasing barriers to service and providing nurse based care that is coordinated with Munson will offer a cost effective way to access to service.

2Mobile Health ClinicER cost avoided + Value of QALYs Saved = Return On Investment Cost of Mobile clinicQuality Adjusted Life Years (QALY)MHCN (2011)

Examining mobile clinics that are offered around the country Jon Muir offers a intriguing view of cost benefit available when mobile health services are provided to underserved populations. The return on investment of a mobile clinic is impacted by emergency room costs that are avoided and quality of life that improves with access to appropriate health care services.

Mobile Health Clinic Networks (2011) looks at the value of quality/adjusted life years explaining that ER costs avoided + value of quality adjusted life years / cost of clinic = return on investment, addressing the social return on the investment. It is difficult to include or define value of service that decreases barriers to access. Malone (2010) reports that treatment at the mobile clinic costs $117.00 verses a typical ER visit is $923. Further benefit is screening for health issues enabling treatment to begin early. Based on this research we feel Grand Traverse County would benefit from a mobile health clinic to serve the community.3ServicesWellness screeningCholesterol screeningVision screeningImmunizationsWeight checks
