The first mobile telephone call was made on June 17, 1946 a driver in St. Louis, Missouri., pulled out a handset from under his car's dashboard, placed a phone call and made history.
The introduction of hexagonal cells for mobile phone base stations, invented in 1947 by Bell Labs engineers at AT&T, was further developed by Bell Labs during the 1960s.
In 1970 Amos Joel of Bell Labs invented the "call handoff" feature, which allowed a mobile-phone user to travel through several cells during the same conversation.

Martin Cooper of Motorola is widely considered to be the inventor of the first practical mobile phone for handheld use in a non-vehicle setting.
Fully automatic cellular networks were first introduced in 1983 by EngelJoel and Richard Frenkiel.
Until the early 1990s, most mobile phones were too large to be carried in a jacket pocket, so they were usually permanently installed in vehicles as car phones.
The advancement of miniaturization and smaller digital components, mobile phones got smaller and lighter.

In 1989 Bangladesh Telecom Limited (BTL) was awarded a license to operate cellular, paging, and other wireless communication networks.
In 1990 Hutchison Bangladesh Telecom Limited (HBTL) was incorporated in Bangladesh as a joint venture between BTL and Hutchison Telecommunications (Bangladesh) Limited.
HBTL began commercial operation in Dhaka using the AMPS mobile technology in 1993 and became the 1st cellular operator in South Asia.

50% of BTL.
By 1996 HBTL was renamed as Pacific
Bangladesh Telecom Limited (PBTL) and
launched the brand name "Citycell
Digital" to market its cellular products.
