Configuring MobileDisplay Options
To accommodate presentation audiences andother situations, mobile users are likely to adjusttheir display settings more frequently thandesktop users.
One of the biggest benefits of mobilecomputing is the ability to collaborate withother users, bringing your data and yourapplications with you.
Many portable computers have the capability
to connect an external display device, makingit possible for a group of users to view thedesktop without having to crowd around asingle small screen.

Connecting anExternal Display
In most cases, the ability to connect an externaldisplay to a portable computer depends on thesystems hardware and software.
Many portables includeo External video port:Such as a VGA (Video Graphics
Array), DVI (Digital Visual Interface), S-Video, High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), or DisplayPortconnector, that enables you to attach an external
display to the computer.
o Video drivers:Enable you to configure the propertiesof each display separately.

Using a Display Projector A display projector is a device that works like a
monitor, except that instead of creating animage on an LED, LCD, or plasma display, itprojects a live image of the computers desktoponto a screen.
Most display projectors can connect to acomputers video port, just like a regularmonitor.
Unlike Windows 7, the Connect to a Network
Projector Wizard is not installed with Windows 8by default. It is instead provided as a featurethat you must add before you can run it.

ConfiguringPower Options
To conserve battery power, virtually all portabledevices made today include the hardware andfirmware elements needed to dynamicallyadjust the power consumption of individual
components. Windows 8 includes extensive controls called
power plans that enable you to create powerusage profiles for a portable computer and
assign different profiles depending on whetherthe computer is plugged into an AC powersource or running on batteries.

Synchronizing Data Windows 8 includes the ability to store
copies of network files on the local drive foruse when the computer is disconnected.
This feature is called Offline Files. Windows 8 supports two types of
synchronization:

o Two-way synchronization

Using Offline Files Offline Files is a form of fault tolerance that
individual users can employ to maintain accessto their server files, even in the event of anetwork service failure.
If the network connection fails, or the userdisconnects a portable computer, access tothe offline files continues uninterrupted.
To synchronize a Windows 8 computer with anetwork folder, browse to the folder using File
Explorer, right-click the folder name, and selectAlways Available Offline from the contextmenu.

Transparent caching is
Functionally similar to the BranchCachefeature, except that each Windows 8
workstation has exclusive use of its owncache; it does not share the cached fileswith other clients.
Designed primarily for clients and servers
connected by relatively slow wide areanetwork (WAN) connections.

Wi-Fi Direct Most Wi-Fi networks are based on the
infrastructure model, in which the wirelessdevices all connect to a central access
point, which enables them to communicatewith each other.
Wi-Fi Direct is a new Microsoftimplementation of ad hoc wireless
networking, which enables a computerrunning Windows 8 to establish a connectionto another wireless device.

Using Wi-Fi Direct To use Wi-Fi Direct in Windows 8, first create
a pairing between two devices, much in thesame way as Bluetooth.
The only way to do that with Windows 8native tools is to use the Netsh.exeapplication from the command line.
Once the devices are paired, the deviceyou added appears on the Windows 8computer in the Devices list on the PCSettings page.
