The area reflects a rural profile with a younger population, a median

household income of +- R 2500 p.m.

Shopping patterns and retail

facilities

Previously most retail spent took placed outside the township towards

Durban CBD and Pinetown.

Most of the retail spent is now captured by the newly constructed

18000sqm Hammarsdale Mall constructed by ERIS property Group.

Other grocery stores available include Boxer Superstore and

Hammarsdale Hyper located 8-10km from the town centre.

Expenditure levels Representative of LSM 2-6

Schools / Colleges The area consists of +- 40 primary and secondary schools and an FET

College. The adjacent factories in Hammarsdale employ between 4000

– 6000 workers and forms the economic base of this area
