Centennials golf tournament fundraiser Not so bad a day after all for the 35 teams of 4 golfers who enjoyed a round at Sagebrush on Saturday, in aid of the Merritt Centennials. Thunderstorms all around stayed at bay, and the sun finally poked out during the prize presentations & dinner. Organizers raised close to $30,000 towards the Centennials’ upcom- ing season. Still on 3 days/week watering restrictions City Council voted down a motion by Councillor Ginny Prowal — with the Mayor as the tie-breaker — to go to a 2 days/week watering restrictions. Opposing councillors said that there is a ‘system’ in place where they are advised by City staff about dry conditions, then the City takes the first steps to a watering- twice-a-week schedule, and that is the way they should leave it. And while they voted against this motion, Counc. Goetz & Baker did say they would support the City going to 2 days a week at this time… Mayor Menard suggested that more stringent restrictions should perhaps be tied to draught levels, so that increasing restrictions would be automatic. But he admitted that if this was the case, we should currently be at 2-days-watering… Our river levels are still considered low by the River Forecast standards, and our acquifer levels are more related to snow levels than precipitation levels. Last week the Merritt Herald reported that the 2-days watering was in effect, however with this vote, the 3-days wa- tering schedule is still on the books. No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery. A squirrel is living in a pine tree... when one day it starts to shake and rock. So he looks outside and he sees a large elephant trying to climb up the tree. "What the hell!" the squirrel exclaims. "What the hell do you think you're doing climbing up this tree?!" The elephant re- sponds. "I'm climbing up here to eat pears." The squirrel is befuddled. "You moron! This is a pine tree! There are no pears!" The elephants stares at him for a moment before replying, "I know. I brought my own." Two horses are standing in a field. "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse" says the first.
