Due to the winter weather, last week’s Commission Sunday was postponed until this Sunday, March 9. This will be the first of three Commission Sundays in 2014. On these special days, we call attention to what God is doing through the Edmond congregation to take the gospel to the world through mission trips, missionaries, and special mission projects and organizations. God continues to change lives and impact the world as we GO, GIVE, and PRAY. Please plan to participate in this Commission Sunday by sacrificially giving so we can meet our annual goal of $433,000, which enables us to support 12 full-time missionaries, fund 75% of every Edmond member’s mission trip this year, and support our partnering orphanages, camps, and mission projects throughout the world. Last week, the heart breaking decision was made to not travel to Aquiles, Mexico over Spring Break. Safety concerns and the possibility of increased instability and unrest caused by recent current events posed additional potential difficulties.

Even though the campus ministry will not be traveling to Mexico, some of the mission work will continue in Aquiles and the surrounding villages. Care packages will be distributed and concrete floors will be poured. Certainly, not everything that we had planned to accomplish will be done, but the people in the valley will know that we love them and care about them physically and spiritually.

Hoping and planning to go to Aquiles, but knowing that travel concerns were an issue, we have been working with our missionary in McAllen, TX, Humberto Hernandez, on alternate plans. A large group of college students, youth, adults, and families will be working with the Iglesia de Cristo in San Juan/McAllen, TX. We will be doing many work projects for the church and its members, as well as hosting a gospel meeting and conducting neighborhood VBS every day.

Please keep our brothers and sisters in Mexico in your prayers, and please pray for those going on the Spring Break mission trip.
