Citation Rules Page

Rules:

#1. Begin your Works Cited page on a separate page at the end of your paper.

#2. The Works Cited page should have 1 inch margins, and include the same MLA header as

your paper (i.e. last name, page number located in header).

#3. Label the page Works Cited (do not italicize, bold, quote, or change the font size of this

label).

#4. Double space all citations.

#5. Indent the 2nd and subsequent lines of citations (i.e. if there are 2, 3, or more lines of a

citation they will all be indented).

#6. List page numbers of sources when applicable. If you are viewing pages 1-17 (1 through

17), or just 1,17 (1 and 17) besure to follow the correct format.

#7. Citations are required to include URL’s, permalinks or DOI’s. When adding this

information always remove Http:// from URL.

#8. Capitalize each word in the titles of articles, books, etc, but do not capitalize articles (the,

an), prepositions, or conjunctions unless one is the first word of the title or subtitle (ex: Gone

with the Wind or The Art of War).

#9. When citing author’s names, do not include titles (Dr., Sir, Saint, etc) or degrees (PhD,

MA, DDS, etc). However, you must include suffixes (Jr., II., etc.) when citing names (ex: King,

Martin Luther, Jr.).

#10. If not author or editor exist, then begin the citation with the title of the article/book.

#11. If citing more than one work by a particular author, order the entries alphabetically by

title, and use three hypens (---) in place of the author’s name foreach entry after the first.
