Mkhulu e.d.p.
INTRODUCTION AND HISTORICAL BACKGROUNDMkhulu Electro Distribution Projects started as a CC in the year 2000 and as a result of its growth changed its registration to a (Pty) Ltd in 2009. It was established by two main founding members who saw fit to establish an entity that would include long serving employees as shareholders in the company. This was meant to recognise their commitment and loyalty to the company.
The company has gone through various transformations in ownership, capacity and demographics but it has not strayed from its basic creed. Despite its size and scale of operation, it still operates like a family entity. Some of the traits that could be associated with its family orientated ethos include the fact that shareholders and senior management prioritise employee well-being, retention of employees even when there is no income generated, growth of internal resources and general ‘looking-out-for-each-other’ world view.
Mkhulu E.D.P. is currently owned by four members (refer to Organization Chart) and a BWO company, Siyazama Professional Management Services.
The company started out with a staff complement of 30 permanent employees and 80 temporary employees during project execution and increased steadily to 250 permanent employees and 650 temporary employees.
LAMPERIINI CONSTRUCTION cc.Mr. G. Lamperini who is the sole proprietor and Director founded Lampeco in 1990 in South Africa.Being the original starting point of the entire Group, Lampeco initially operated in the OHTL Construction field as a subcontractor solely for ABB South Africa, through its initial success; this company was able to strengthen its vehicular fleet considerably to its present capacity. After the birth of the other sister Companies, apart from a few minor projects, Lampeco has successfully specialized in providing the logistical/vehicular support for the rest of the group.Lampeco operates from its offices in Bryanston, Johannesburg, South Africa and has its Depot in Nigel, South Africa.
EAGLE POWER TRANSMISSION cc.Mr. G. Lamperini & Mr. M. Buonomano, founded Eagle Power Transmission (E.P.T) in 1993 after successfully working together in major companies. Initially E.P.T., operated in the OHTL Construction as Sub Contractors to ABB Power lines, then progressed and became a key partner/ subcontractor for all the major players building OHTL in the Southern Africa Region (ABB, ALSTOM, SIEMENS, NORELEC, CEGELEC, TRANSDECO, RGF, NAMIBIAN TRANSMISSION LINE, etc.). From 1993 to 2000 they subcontracted in the construction (Foundation and/or Erection and/or Stringing) of over 700km of OHTL, ranging from 33kV to 400kV on all types of foundation (Pad & Chimney, drilled, etc.), Towers (Wooden towers to lattice Self Supporting, V-Guyed Towers, Single Mast Guyed Towers) and a range of conductors (1-2-3-4 conductors, Bull, Bear, Mink, Tern, Dinosaur etc). In particular in 1996-1997 E.P.T. was responsible for the Erection & Stringing of over 250 km of 400 kV OHTL (Triple tern, and approx. 500 Compact Cross Rope Guyed Towers). E.P.T. and all its resources were bought over by Mkhulu EDP in 2009.
Hereunder is a brief description of the historical Companies
FIELD OF OPERATIONMkhulu E.D.P. is active in the Construction of Over Head Transmission Lines ranging from 11kV to 765kV in the Sub-Sahara region.
Because of the company’s experience that covers a 360° spectrum of activities and responsibilities from operational activities on Site through to Project Management, it is able to provide a full range of manpower and expertise to tackle any OHTL line construction as a Turn Key project.
Mkhulu E.D.P. is presently recognized as a major industry player in Southern Africa, successfully tendering as a Principal Contractor and at an equal level of opportunity to all the other key contenders. There are no limitations as to the size, particular complexity, equipment or plant requirements of the Project for which Mkhulu can tender. From 2006 to 2014, Mkhulu has successfully completed over 470 kilometres of 765kV and 200 kilometres of 400kV, the latter of which was done as a Principal Contractor.
