    Basic Tackling

Cover all of the basics of tackling with a

seasoned and international expert: Coach Rico

Fernandes. Small groups will be able to learn all

of the key skills in defending and how to

dominate in defensive situations. This course

is appropriate for all players as all positions on

    the field must defend well!

    Advanced Tackling

After covering the basics, it is now time to

discuss and train for advanced level tackling.

Coach Rico will discuss and practice high level

defensive strategies and the art of tackling in

    high pressure situations.

    The Art of Channeling

An essential skill for all field hockey

athletes. Channeling, when done correctly, can

be effective in slowing down an offensive

    counter-attack. This skills helps athletes

    develop their patience and timing.

    Goalkeeping 1

Join Coach Liz for a goalkeeper-specific

session that will develop key decision-making

    skills and shot-stopping techniques.

Goalkeeping 2As a more advanced session, goalkeepers

will improve their skills in logging, tactical

    awareness, communication, reaction-saves

and 1 v 1s. This session will be high intensity

    and fast-paced.

    Distributing The Ball From

    Defense

A daunting task for any defender

is when they look up at a 16-yard-hit

and see a full press from the

    opposition. Our coaches will

    help develop a players ability

to break a high court press

    and make the correct decision

    in dead ball situations. Self-

    starts, transfers and aerials will

    also be covered.

DEFENSIVE CLINICSAn expert approach to defending...

    Defensive Coach Rico

Alarico Fernandes brings international and defensive field hockey expertisefrom his native country of Tanzania. Rico emphasizes the tactical andtechnical requirements of field hockey defenders including positioning,

tackling, defensive short corners and counter-attacking. He is also a fieldhockey rules expert, with extensive knowledge of the Federation of

International Hockey (FIH) rule-book. Rico stays current with FIH rulesand instructs MKEFHC players on these aspects of the game as part of his

    coaching strategies.

    Controlling the Circle

This session will be specifically designed

for the goal scorer to know every inch of the

circle. Tom Carter believes the key to goal

scoring is to make the right shot choice

quickly, before a keeper can set. This session

will explore this concept and provide the striker

with the confidence to pull the trigger in

situations without looking up and wasting

    valuable time.

At the end of this clinic, strikers will feel at

home in the circle and the confidence that will

    be gained is priceless.

    The Art of Tipping

Tipping is an art and we will make you a

master of that art. If done correctly, tipping will

score invaluable goals for your team. There are

many factors that go into successful tipping and

Coach Tom will explain all of these as well as

demonstrate the array of tipping options

    available to the striker.

Forehand and reverse tipping into the low

corners and upper corners of the net will be

executed along with more advanced side spintipping. After this session you will have

confidence to make the right decision in the

    blink of an eye.

Tom Carter developed his expertise as a

tipper and was successful because of his strike

partner, Iain Bennett. In Toms opinion, Iain has

the best pass quality that he has ever played

with, making tipping a great success when

played with him. Join them both in

    this high intensity tipping course.

This session is perfect to take with

a club or high school teammate

with whom you want to develop

    and perfect a strike

    partnership.

    The Top D Strike

    The daunting issue of so

    many field hockey athletes is

how to score from the top of the

circle! This area is prime field hockey

space and often athletes avoid taking this

precious shot and making an extra pass instead.

In this clinic, athletes will learn how to

strike the ball from one of the hardest and

most precise hitters that Coach Tom has ever

worked with, Iain Bennett. Join Iain and learn

to adopt his advanced technique to develop

    confidence in your striking ability.

Athletes will learn how to hit the ball both to

bottom corners and upper corners of the net,

all from the top of the circle.

    Beating a defender/Goalkeeper

All players need to have the skill and

confidence required to take on a player 1 v 1

and successfully get around them. Join Tom

Carter in a lesson in the skills, psychology, and

confidence that are all required to be successful

    in a 1 v 1 battle.

    Shooting Options

Join Coach Tom as he provides an

overview of all of the different shootingtechniques of the game. Introduced in this

session is: tipping, sweeping, forehand strike,

reverse stick strike, flicking, drag flicking and

    even penalty strokes.

    Advanced Dribbling

Dribbling is essential to all field hockey

athletes. Join Coach Tom in a clinic that will

help you develop your ball-handling skills. Lear

how to always have control of the ball and

    options for dribbling around defenders.

OFFENSIVE CLINICSAn expert approach to offensive skills and

    situations...

    Offensive Coach Tom

Tom Carter, a native of North Wales, Great Britain, draws uponhis high level international experience with the Welsh national

team program as well as his university playing experience when

coaching. He holds a Level II field hockey coaching certification

from both Great Britain and USA Field Hockey. As a striker

himself, Tom specializes in training young athletes to execute a

wide-range of technical, goal-scoring skills. Tom was captain

and leading goal scorer for York - St. John University Mens field

Pressing StrategiesThe modern-day game of hockey is geared

toward different pressing options. Many teams

in the USA do not have any pressing strategies

or they use a single one during the entire game.

Pressing is so important and there are many

different strategies to a press that can be

    used.

Join Coach Quinn in the conference room

where you will have a detailed class in pressing

options. Video analysis will be the core

component, but their will be practical sessions

built into the clinic as well.

    Video/Scouting Analysis

Video scouting is a crucial aspect of

preparation for competition. This session will

guide you in your ability to critically analyze

your competition. Learn how to write a

scouting report, look for opponents team

strengths and weaknesses, their key players, set

play strategies, pressing styles, and much more.

    Defensive Movement & Positioning

This is a combined classroom theoryand outdoor practical course. Athletes will

learn to take charge of defensive situations and

    control forward movement and decision-making.

Athletes will learn the importance of channeling

and how some of the best defenders in the

world do not always need to make that amazing

    tackle.

    Offensive Movement &Positioning

    Offensive movement and

positioning is an area that we see

so often as a source of a teams

    weakness. If you are ever

unsure what to do and where

to go when your team has the

ball, then this course is for you.

    Learn where to position yourself

based upon your actual playing position.

Athletes will develop an understanding of how

their individual movement away from the ball

can seriously add to their teams success.

    Video Analysis Advanced

This session will look at more complex

theories to scouting reports. Athletes will be

engaged in important tactical approaches to the

game. This course will allow athletes the

opportunity to think like coaches as they

develop an awareness of the tactical decision

making that enters coaches minds. This

course will help you stay ahead of your

competition by developing your hockey brain

    using valuable critical thinking skills.

TACTICAL CLINICSTactics are an important part of the modern

game. We will help you develop your tactical

    mind.

keen understanding of the tactical aspect of the field hockey game,

especially in the structure and use of defensive presses and set-plays.
