Purpose of the research conducted

Mix Mag Project

On the slides 2-3 I have discussed the areas based on the Mix Mag project. I needed to understand the codes and conventions of how a particular magazine was set out and the immediate emotion I would feel for the overall look. It helped me understand where specific aspects of the magazine were to positioned for example the main image, the cover lines or the selling line. Some may think that this would be a primary and secondary source. However, due to comparing and writing up on the existing Mix Mag front cover it would be a secondary research method. The strengths I had for this over all task would be that understanding the various aspects of an existing Mix Mag magazine. It enabled me to learn how an original magazine should be set out having a more depth understanding of it. I think that my weakness would be that when first being taught on this It was hard to understand the standing codes and conventions of the Mix Mag magazines. This meant that I had various queries about the topic, in time I started to have more confidence in how discuss and analyse the standing codes and conventions.

Annotation of Mix Mag profile readers

This task was based on finding out the starting history for a Mix Mag reader. The report discuss the history background and how things have changed to this current year. Doing this assignment enabled to have an insight as to who I was targeting my future magazine product too. When selling a product target audience is a key focus in order for you to sell that specific project. By researching the history background of its profile readers it help my understanding of what the whole idea for this specific magazine was about. I learnt various aspects of a typical Mix Mag profile reader. It also helped my understanding of how the magazine originated and the changes of its genre etc. This report would be a secondary research as I have used standing websites to help support my information which was gathered from the official Mix Mag website itself. At lot of statistics were used which were taken from the Mix Mag website as well as referring to another website called the ABC Audit Bureau to help inform the median age and gender of a Mix Mag reader. Having doing this report it would help my understanding of how to use professional methods to find out a specific profile reader or on the other hand a selection on target audience. It also helped me to understand the conventions of when finding out the target audience for Student Magazines. This enabled me to transfer the existing skills to the new project, Student Magazine.

Mix Mag codes and conventions and annotation

The reason for this report was to understand how the Mix Mag magazines would peruse their product in terms of the layout for the magazine. This would be seen as a secondary research as I using an existing magazine to help identify each aspect of the magazine. The strength of this was that I could apply them conventions to my own magazine.

Layout conventions for Mix Mag

Layout convention annotation This report is based on looking at my final cover and double page spread for the Mix Mag magazine and compare within an existing Mix Mag magazine. The reason was to see if the page layout shows professional, technical standards with creativity. This document could be seen as both primary and secondary research. The reason being is there are references being made from a secondary source to my own finalised product. The strengths of this report was that I actually highlighted aspects of my finalised cover which shows clear relation to the existing mix mag cover. My weakness of the overall report would be that I did not follow the codes and conventions of the price and bar code. I think as it was one of the last appliances to the product I didn’t follow the existing magazine as much when first starting the project. If I were to do this again I would make sure that I refer to each secondary content to ensure that every aspect of the product shows both professionalism and the technical convention it needs to get that higher grade.

Questionnaire templates and results

Mix Mag Questionnaire template

This is a questionnaire that was used within the Mix Mag project. The reason why we used this was to find out opinions from students based on the finalised front cover and double page spread. The strengths of this was that it enabled me to understand different views and likeability's based on the product. It also meant that within the future I could outline the aspects of which areas I could improve on etc. This was the same scenario for the Student Magazine however the information I was gaining was about what would be published within the magazine, such as the topics being discussed or the actually naming of the magazine.

Mix Mag questionnaire results

This report was based on the results I received when gathering all of my questionnaires back from the mix mag finalised product. This was primary research as I did it myself from my own assembled results. Overall I think that the process of the report was fairly easy as I had current skills from the questionnaire write up results for the student magazine project. The weakness would be that the answers provided from the students were quite bland and un-informatitive.
