SHARP BASICS

The first thing you really notice about the new Mitsubishi L200 isn't its upgraded

2.5l Common Rail DI-D power plant. Nor its new rear power window, for that matter.

At first glance, it's its rugged and yet curvaceous body that makes this 4x4

multi-tasker stand out from the crowd. But because we all like a little personal

style, Mitsubishi designers have fashioned a range of sharp basics with which

SERIOUS HARDWARE

It's nice to be seen. And when you're cruising in luxury along highways and

boulevards, heads will turn, make no mistake. But there's also no mistaking the

L200's seminal beginnings: it's built to pick up a load and take it places. Places

that are among the least accessible in the world. Like towering mountain passes,

or remote rocky coasts. And because it's such a versatile vehicle bought for such

diverse purposes, some of the serious hardware is optional. It all depends on what

you'll be carrying where and what you'll be doing once you get there. The styling bars

complement the L200's already sturdy appearance and they're highly practical if

you're stacking your load high. Side-step illumination means you'll never put a foot

wrong and the work lamps will flood any terrain with light, even if you're miles from

the nearest lamppost.

slightly amazed at the sheer size of the cab. In fact, you can't

really call it a cab on the Double Cab version. It's more like

the inside of a luxury saloon. And even the Single Cab L200

offers superior space and comfort. But if you want that little

bit extra, Mitsubishi offers some custom-designed and highly

practical accessories that'll make your cab a home from home.

Entry guards front and rear, for instance, and gear and transfer

shift knobs so sensational to the touch that you'll be pleased

to reach for them again and again. And whether you're out in

THE HIGHEST STANDARDS

All Mitsubishis are designed to be taken to the limit in one way or another.

The L200, capable of carrying a tonne and with a towing capacity of 2.7 tonnes, is

perhaps the most telling example. That's why we felt that the pickup's safety features

should meet and exceed the highest standards in the industry. And they do: the L200

has been awarded a 4-star Euro NCAP crash performance rating. So there's little to be

desired, then, in this respect. Nevertheless, Mitsubishi has some additional safety

and protection accessories to offer you. Like a safety kit and a range of child safety

seats. And when your pickup is packed like a mule, rear parking assistance will make

backing into that tight spot a doddle.
