Missouri Society Commander

Our guest speaker was MOSB Arkansas Society Lt. Commander of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. This young man gave a great presentation on "The Confederates of Carroll County Arkansas." He is a true Southerner fighting for the cause.

Special guests at the event included UDC Officers from Missouri and Texas, National Society Daughters of CSA Officers Corps, SCV National Chief of Staff , SCV Division Commanders from Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma, MOSB Past Commander General, MOSB Society Commanders from Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas, as well as MOSB ATM Commander. Thank you all for a great event and I hope next years 160th Anniversary of Missouri's Secession will be even bigger.

Next I would like to challenge each Chapter to press forward with your recruitment of new members. Last year we ended with 57 active mem-bers. Since then we are now at 75 current members. With a push from each Chapter to gain two (2) new members we could be over the 80 mark by our Reunion in April.

Last of all I want to wish each of you and your families a Blessed Christ-mas and Happy New Year. As for our Nation please keep this Bible Verse in mind, "PRAY WITHOUT CEASING" 1Thessalonians 5:17

We can keep America great with the help of God.

Yours in the Cause,

Commander

Dear Compatriots,

What a crazy year 2020 has been for us all as a organization and our families. But as true South-erners we have found ways to Battle on and move forward.

We were able to have our Secession Day Dinner in November at Osage Beach. What a wonderful turn out we had with numbers pressing the 70 mark. THANK YOU to each and everyone that at-tended or sent in contributions.

Message from Lt. Commander How to Stay Connected with the Missouri Society

Season’s greetings friends and compatriots,

I am aware that technology may be a “four letter word” for some of you. Howev-er, we have been hard at work developing tools that many of you may wish to utilize to stay connected and perhaps to keep others informed on what your indi-vidual Chapters are accomplishing. We are a growing group and one of the challenges that comes with growth is improving communications.

First of all we have a Missouri Society Facebook page where we post updates from the Missouri Society and we have the ability to post stories or photos from your Chapter. The link to the Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/mosbmissouri or you can search for the page by typing in Missouri Society of Military Order of the Stars and Bars in the Facebook search tab. We would like to encourage each Chapter to have one contact person ( it doesn’t even have to be a member, it could be a family member or friend) that doesn’t mind technology and would be willing to provide us with postings or at least the infor-mation where we can create a post from your Chapter. Pictures of your events or meetings would be awe-some.

Along the same line, the Society also has a webpage. The link to the webpage is https://missourisocietymosb.org or you can simply manually type the web address into your browser address bar. Currently on this page we have a blog that we try to post an article at least once a month and sometimes a little more frequently. We also have a page with the ancestors of the members of the Brig. Gen. Thomas Ore Freeman Chapter #311. I will gladly create a page for your Chapter’s ancestors as well if you will provide me the information and photos. At this time we are very cautious with posting any names of members or any personally identifiable data on the webpage as there are members whose workplace has issues with some online pictures. So as an example we listed the ancestor’s names, but did not reference them to a member name.

Please send me anything you would like to share and let me know how I can assist you with putting your Chapter in the spotlight. You all work hard for our beloved ancestors and we would love to let others know what you have been up to. Feel free to either email or text me with any questions or content.

May the Lord bless and keep you till we meet again.

Your humble servant

Lt. Commander

Message from the Adjutant

Greetings fellow Confederates,

Thanks to all that attended the Secession Day Dinner. This year’s event was the best attended in several year, we were pushing a crowd of 70 or so. We also had folks travel from Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas to see us. We had Texas Society Commander and his wife, ATM Commander and his wife, Past Commander General and his wife, Oklahoma Division SCV Com-

and his wife. Heis also a Missouri Society member in Boyd Chapter. Then we had Missouri Division UDC President and Past Missouri Division UDC President. They all extended greetings. We also had SCV and Missouri Division SCV Commander. So we had a bunch of high ranking officials there! Good thing we minded our P’s and Q’s right?!

This was Society Commander’s first time of MCing the event. He did great, and added some new and unique things to the event. We’re blessed to have a gung ho leader along with Lt. Commander. Both have channeled a ton of time and energy into the Society. We’re doing good!

We did have an Executive Council Meeting prior to the Banquet. I couple of things we voted on and passed were:

1. Donated $300 to the Missouri Division Flag Pole Project. That money was sent

2. Voted on next years Secesh Dinner Date as November 6th, and we’re keeping it at the Inn at Grand Glaize. Next years contract is now signed and in the hands of the hotel. The Inn takes good care of us, and our attendance is better when we have the event there. We’ve been putting that decision off until the convention, however, that’s been too late to get the Inn lined up, they were already booked. We lucked out getting in there this year on 5 months notice. But the last 4-5 years, hasn’t happened.

3. And, this is news, we voted to add a $5 application fee for new membership applications, and supple-mentary Certificate applications. Logic being is, we’re burning tons of ink and paper printing off appli-cations and all the docs in triplicate or whatever! HQ wants a ton of paperwork, and poor Society Geneolgist is burning up his printer! We’re buying the paper and cartridges for him, but we’ll go broke. And thank God we are adding new members! But we’ve got to cover our cost. It’s an Expensive world these days.

In other news, Dues are due! I’ve heard from Hays Chapter, Freeman Chapter, Cockrell Chapter, Bowen Chapter, and Boyd Chapter. Marmaduke Chapter, how are you guys doing? Was anyone able to send out Marmaduke Chapter dues etc? If you are in Marmaduke Chapter and haven’t received an invoice, please let me know. Not saying it hasn’t happened, just haven’t heard from your Chapter yet.

The Commander has a goal to get the Society to 80 members by the Convention next Spring. I think we are about 71 right now. If every Chapter picks up 2 members each, we’ll have it whipped! So hit up your friends and relatives! Help them all you can then get with Society Genealogist, and he’ll make it happen! He’s a go getter also!

Merry Christmas!

Secession Day Dinner, November 7, 2020

Our speaker this year presented the topic “The history o f t h e C a r r o l l C o u n t y (AR) Confederates” He is a young guy and it’s men like him that will take us into the future. He has an impressive resume already!

1st Lt Commander of the Patrick R. Cleburne Arkansas Society MOSB, Commander of the Seaborn Jones Cotten Camp #2303 Eureka Springs, Arkansas SCV. Currently is a senior at the University of Arkan-sas for Agricultural Leadership. And he’s writing a book to boot!

Here you see some of the crowd, and it was a good one this year. Thanks to all for attending and we hope you enjoyed the show. Look forward to seeing you all at the Lee Jackson Dinner!

To the left, Missouri Society Genealogist, is hard at work at the podium. He is a wizard at processing our applications. If you need help, reach out to him! Also, he can help you apply for supplemental certificates for other Officers you have.
