Planting of bareroot tree seedlings continues through mid-March of2011, whereas planting of containerized seedlings may be extended several more weeks. Here is a list of species for several nurseries, which sell seedlings to private landowners. When placing an order, be sure that the seedlings are from a seed source that will grow in the area you intend to plant them. Trees vary in many characteristics depending on the climate and conditions under which they have evolved. This is why the geographic origin of seed is important. Take advantage of what we know about geographic variation in trees and plant seedlings adapted to your area. If you have questions, contact your County Extension Director, Area Extension Forestry Specialist, or Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC) Service Forester. As a special note, the MFC will not approve seedling purchases for state cost-share programs unless they are from acceptable seed sources (as determined by the MFC). Please check with your MFC Service Forester if you plan to use state cost-share money when regenerating your forest land. Forest Seedling Availability from In-State and Regional Nurseries, 2010-2011

Many forestry companies and agencies in Mississippi and throughout the southern regionare offering a variety of tree species during the 2010-20 II planting season. Planting of bareroottree seedlings continues through mid-March of2011, whereas planting of containerized seedlingsmay be extended several more weeks. Here is a list of species for several nurseries, which sellseedlings to private landowners.

When placing an order, be sure that the seedlings are from a seed source that will grow inthe area you intend to plant them. Trees vary in many characteristics depending on the climateand conditions under which they have evolved. This is why the geographic origin of seed isimportant. There are other state nurseries in the region which produce and sell seedlings. Thesesources are not necessarily adapted for growth in Mississippi. If you order from these nurseries,ask them if the seedlings will grow where you will be planting. In addition, other state nurseriesoften give preference for seedling sales to state residents. Finally, most states will not shipseedlings out-of-state, but require out-of-state purchases to pick up seedlings in state.
