Contents• Petroleum system -elements and processes

• Maps –structure (depth) and isopachous maps (thickness)

• Well logs -correlate formations for maps

• Core samples -sample of rocks from boreholes

• Recommendations- *Upper & middle Wilcox pay sand is a primary prospect that have a great potential for commercial quantities of petroleum.*

Mississippi Conventional Petroleum System

Source- Schlumberger

• The essential elements of a petroleum system include the following:

• Source rock• Reservoir rock• Seal rock• Overburden rock

• Petroleum systems have two processes:

• Trap formation• Generation–migration–accumulation of hydrocarbons and preservation

Exploration Core analysis and well logs Excellent range

Porosity- % of pore volume or void space 20%-25%Permeability-measurement of a rock's ability to transmit fluids

100md-1000md

Resistivity- resistance to the flow of electricity through a formation (Ωm)

Very high

Conductivity-  inverse of resistivity and is measured in (S/m)

Very low

Spontaneous potential (SP)- records the electrical current that arises due to salinity differences b/n a saltwater based drilling mud and a fluid in a formation

Sandstone (-20mv to -80mv)Shale (0 to -20)

Data set• As an exploration geologists we have looked into all the data's and information collected from regions with similar geology to our prospect areas from near by productive wells that included:

Page 9: Mississippi prospects

RecommendationsFrom looking at production data (MSOGB online) the Middle Fork and

Sassafras wells were determined to be more productive than the Tom Branch Field.

Two main prospective areas: yellow(First Wilcox oil sand) and green(Mckittrick sand) lines show-Least risk- accumulations surround the trap.

Yellow line 3/5 wells producing and on the green line 5/7 wells producing.

Lithology of green and yellow line wells was the same but green line have higher production rates due to water drive mechanism.

Based on structure maps and MSOGB online data several new prospective wildcat areas have been identified.
