    Upcoming Probable Starters & Schedule

TODAYS GAME: The Braves try to take the inaugural series with the Biloxi Shuckers behind the arm of Greg Ross on Saturday night at Trustmark Park.

LAST TIME OUT: Jake Brigham took a shutout into the 7th inning and Mallex Smith and Emerson Landoni got two hits apiece in the top two spots in the order to drop the Biloxi Shuckers 4-2. Smith drove in two as part of a three-run fourth to pull away to 4-0. Chris ODowd continued his hot streak with an RBI single in the first to give the M-Braves the lead for good. Ryan Weber gave up a run in 1 2/3 innings of relief work, and Ryan Kelly earned his league second-best 7th save with a scoreless ninth.

MISSISSIPPI BASEBALL HISTORY: This series marks the first time since 1955 that two professional, affiliated MiLB teams from Mississippi will play each other. The 55 Cotton States League (C) featured three teams from Mississippi--the Greenville Bucks, Vicksburg Hill Billies and Meridian Millers (moved from Pine Bluff, AR in June of 55). Biloxi has not hosted professional baseball since 1908 in the class-D Cotton States League, the Gulfport-Biloxi Sand Crabs. Midway through the 1908 season, the Gulfport Sand Crabs were sold for $1,000 and moved to Biloxi for the second half. The Jackson Senators won the 1908 CSL pennant at 68-42, while Gulfport-Biloxi finished 3rd at 63-52, 7.5 GB. Biloxi has hosted multiple Major League teams Spring Training over the years, including the Ty Cobb-led Detroit Tigers in 1913-15, and the Washington Senators from 1930-1935.

MALLEX SWIPING SPELL: Mallex Smith ended a stretch of nine games without a stolen base on Thursday night, stealing third in the sixth inning. It was the longest streak without a steal in his career. The previous high mark was seven games, set from 4/27-5/16/2013 with class-A Fort Wayne in his first full professional season.

HIT STREAKS, HOT STREAKS: Daniel Castro (16, T-5th), now at AAA Gwinnett, and Matt Lipka (15, 9th) have each strung together long hit streaks this season, landing on the M-Braves top 10 all-time list. Tommy La Stella holds the team record hit streak at 23 in 2013, with Carl Loadenthal hitting safely in 20 straight in 2007. Scott Thorman had an 18-game streak in 2005. Willie Cabrera strung together 17 straight in 2009. Todd Cunningham (2012), Christian Bethancourt & Mycal Jones (2013) each had 16-gamers to match Castro.

700 WINS: The M-Braves are searching for win number 700, needing 15 more wins to reach that marker. Mississippi enters todays game with an all-time record of 685-721.

WINNINGEST MANAGER: Manager Aaron Holbert needs 35 wins to become the M-Braves all-time winningest manager. Phillip Wellman currently sits at the top with a record of 268-285 compiled over four seasons. Holbert enters todays game with a record of 234-209 over three-plus seasons.

WINNING GAMES--CHASING RECORDS: The 2014 M-Braves posted the best record in Mississippi Braves history, with a record of 83-56. It was the best team record for a Double-A Braves club since the 1992 Greenville Braves went 100-43.
