DESCRIPTION

Mission San Luis Rey Parish Bulletin for 09-14-2014 - Exaltation of the Holy Cross Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, Sept 14th At all Masses Parishioners are invited to bring the cross they wear and crucifixes from home to be blessed during all masses at Mission San Luis Rey Parish this weekend, September 13th and 14th. The crucifix was particularly important to St. Francis of Assisi. Jesus spoke to him from the San Damiano crucifix and told him to "rebuild my church." St. Francis wrote this beautiful prayer before a crucifix: "We adore you, Lord Jesus Christ, here and in all your churches in the whole world, and we bless you, because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world." May the crucifix in your home remind you of the Glory and Mercy of God, who "found human in appearance, Christ Jesus humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross." -- Philippians 2: 7-8

A ques on o en asked secretly by many young men is, “How do I know that God is calling me to priesthood?”

Too o en, because of a lack of drama c evidence, many of the subtle hints and gentle nudges which accompany the call to priesthood can easily be overlooked or misin-

terpreted. Reading I Kings (19:11-13) we see that the great prophet Elijah heard God’s call, not in an earth-

sha ering event, a mighty storm or blazing fire, but in a ny whispering sound. So, IF THE NOTION OF

PRIESTHOOD GENTLY PASSES YOUR MIND FROM TIME TO TIME, SIT UP AND TAKE NOTICE. IT COULD BE A HINT.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

LIFE IS A BALANCING ACT

Being a good Steward of our Time and Talent means putting God first in our life when we think about our time. What’s the first thing that goes on your calendar or a scheduler? To be a good Steward of your me, give your first thought of spending me doing God’s work and will. Examples of that are: Pu ng me for Mass each week first on your sched-

ule. Pu ng me aside for praying: prayers of thanksgiv-

ing or pe ons for others each day. Pu ng me aside to read the bible readings for

each day from the bulle n. Pu ng me aside once a week to check out the par-

ish website or bulle n, to consciously stay connect-ed to your community of faith.

Pu ng aside me for service to the Body of Christ, Church and Community

Is this Stewardship of Time thing just a really good idea? Pope John Paul II said that “Christian steward-ship is not just a good idea or an option for Catho-lics. It is everything we do after we say “I do” to Christ. It is our response as disciples, how we express our membership in the Body of Christ.” Ideas about how Christians could spend time as good Stewards, taken from the—CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY Take care of others physical needs: the "corporal (Latin for body) works of mercy": 1) Feed the hungry. 2) Give drink to the thirsty. 3) Clothe the naked. 4) Shelter the homeless. 5) Visit the sick. 6) Visit those in prison. 7) Bury the dead. Take care of others spiritual and emotional needs: 8) Instruct the ignorant (or more literally: Help people understand and learn!) 9) Counsel the doubtful. 10) Convert the sinner. 11) Comfort the sorrowful. 12) Forgive injuries. 13) Bear wrongs patiently. 14) Pray for the living and the dead. You’re invited to come find out more during Welcome Sunday! Look for our Stewardship tables a er Masses on Saturday, September 27th and Sunday, September 28th.
