Through the promotion of health literacy on OTC medicines,JFSMI drives the implementation of Self-Medication,and extension of healthy life expectancy.

Encourage the information exchanges and cooperation among the various stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, industries, associations and related organizations. Promote further education and acknowledgement of Responsible Self-Medication to the public.

Stipulate the planning, activation and extension of the action plan based on the opinions from member associations.

Promote the international information exchange among ASEAN Member States, through support for the Asia-Pacific Self-Medication Industry (APSMI).

Promote deregulation of current national policies and restrictions and proposing new systems and policies in order to extend the role of Responsible Self-medication.

The role of OTC medicines in the healthcare system in Japan has to be extended even more since Self-medication is believed to be the promising solution to address the problems caused by the aging society with declining birth rates in Japan. That is clearly reflected in the current national policies.

Therefore, we contribute to promote the national policy to extend our healthy life expectancy on the basis of the universal health insurance system in Japan. We aim for this goal through educating people and disseminating the concept “we maintain our health for and by ourselves first”, supporting the health maintenance on their own based on prevention, health-checks, self-medication and so forth, and establishing even better healthcare services of high quality and efficiency by supplying well-qualified OTC medicines with broader access.

Japan Federation of Self-Medication Industries (JFSMI) works together with its member associations for the further activation of OTC markets in and out of Japan, representing industries to find out the solutions to their common issues, cooperating with administrative authorities and relevant organizations, and supporting people’s wish for their healthy lives.
