Mission Evolve Music Festival is a celebration of life, focusing

on creating a platform for artistic expression, nurtured in a

vibrant, inspiring, peaceful environment where we all come

together and celebrate the awesome creative energy Far North

QLD has to offer!

Mission Evolve Music Festival is not exclusive to music and open to all medi-

ums of artistic expression. The event encompasses everything from live

music, DJ’s, workshops, sculpture, percussion, roving performance and

circus spaces to market stalls and delicious food. Set in the lush tropical

forests of Dundee Pk, Mission Beach, this is a family friendly event with

camping available throughout the weekend.

Round two of the Get in the Game programs is open!! The three-year Get in the Game initiative is made up of three programs — Get Started, Get Going and Get Playing — aimed at helping clubs grow by providing better sport and recreation activities and facilities, and giving children, who can’t af-ford or may otherwise benefit from the chance to get involved in sport and recrea-tion activities. Round one of the programs was a huge success, with more than 12,000 vouchers issued to children and young people to help them join a sport or recreation clubs through Get Started, 475 clubs receiving total funding of $3.371 million under Get Going, and 83 clubs were provided with grants totalling $6.76 million under Get Playing.

As we enter the second round of funding, I am urging eligible Queensland families and our sport and recreation clubs to apply for: • Get Started vouchers for children aged five to 17 (inclusive) to assist them

in joining a sport or recreation club • Get Going funding of up to $10,000 for items and activities to assist clubs

in attracting members • Get Playing funding of up to $100,000 for sport and recreation clubs to de-

velop facilities. Get Started opened for applications on 15 July 2013, and Get Going and Get Play-ing is open for applications until 15 October 2013. For more information on the pro-grams, including detailed fact sheets, visit our website www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/funding/getinthegame.

The cinema is coming to Mission Beach

In a happy-ending plot twist as the end credits roll on the Mission Beach Film Festival, a band of dedicated film lovers has come

together to ensure the continuance of a film culture in this seaside town. Gitta Yelds, president of the newly formed Mission

Beach Film Society, said her group was waiting for membership approval with the Federation of Queensland Film Societies.

“Once this is approved, our group plans to show films twice monthly on a rotating basis between South Mission, Wongaling

and Mission Beach,” Gitta said. “We want to screen films that appeal, in turn, to everyone. It is a community project – showing

art house to Hollywood to family films.”

Truus Biddlecombe, who served as secretary over the Mission Beach Film Festival’s four years, said the festival’s nest egg of

$15,000 had been handed over to the Mission Beach Community Arts Centre Inc. to act as caretaker for a future film culture in

Mission Beach.

“Running a film festival is a huge task,” said Truus who, with a group of friends, founded the festival in 2009. “You need com-

mitment and new blood to make it work. People moved away and it was hard to replace the initial zeal that ensured a success-

ful festival.”

A highlight of the Mission Beach Film Festival was the appearance in 2010 of Hollywood actress and environmentalist Daryl

Hannah and the premiere of the film, The Tree. Mission Beach Community Arts Centre president Lynda Hannah said the centre

was pleased to include the new Mission Beach Film Society under its banner.

“We provide a home here at Mission Arts for Mission Beach artists and Coral Harmony Choir and welcome Mission Beach Film

Society into our arts family,” Lynda said.

Gitta said the new Mission Beach Film Society would offer a range of memberships, from individual for $40 a year, family $80

a year and temporary, for tourists and short-term residents, of $25 for three months.
