What Is Missile ?A powered, guided munition that travels through the air or space is known as a missile (or guided missile.) A powered, unguided munition is known as a rocket. Missile is any thrown object……The word missile comes from the Latin verb mittere, meaning "to send".

Types Of Missile Conventional guided missile Air to air missile Air to surface missile

Surface to air missile Surface to surface

Ballistic Missile Short range missile

Medium missile Air launched ballistic missile

Submarine launched missile Cruise missile

Ballistic MissilesIndia has an active and advanced ballistic missile sector, which has produced a nuclear-capable short-range ballistic missile that is in service. Nuclear-capable medium-range and intermediate-range ballistic missiles are also under development and have been flight-tested.

Development of Agni-V with an estimated range of 5000 km is accelerated.

Cruise Missile India has worked with Russia to produce the BrahMos supersonic anti-ship and land-attack cruise missile. The missile, which can be launched from aircraft, ships, or a mobile ground vehicle, has an estimated range of roughly 300 kilometers—the threshold range of missiles that Missile Technology Control Regime members are supposed to exercise restraint in exporting. India and Russia say they plan to market the missile for export.

INDIA Extending Missile Reach

INS Arihant the lead ship of India's Arihant class of nuclear-powered submarines formally joins the Indian Navy in 2011 after undergoing sea trials The Defence Research and Development Organisation

(DRDO) has developed a new sub-sonic cruise missile called Nirbhay (Fearless in Sanskrit), which was tested few days back. This is the first time that India has developed a cruise missile that will travel at a sub-sonic speed.

.

• Nirbhay is India's equivalent of Tomahawk, a long-range, sub-sonic cruise missile, developed by the U.S.

• Nirbhay is a two-stage, surface-to-surface missile.• With a range of more than 750 km, Nirbhay can

remain in the air for a long time. Capable of flying at the height of a tree (so, it is known as “tree-top missile), it can soar to a minimum of 10 km and a maximum of 50 km.

A modified version of Arjun-Mark I main battle tank will prove its mettle by firing a LAHAT missile from an Army range this month.

The LAHAT (Laser Homing Attack or Laser Homing Anti-Tank missile) is a third-generation semi-active low-weight anti-tank missile. This version was fired from the Arjun tank in 2004.

The Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment, a DRDO facility at Avadi, designed and developed the Arjun.

AKASH MISSILE The Akash Weapon System (AWS) was indigenously developed

by DRDO as part of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP) and is an all-weather, medium-range, Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) system. It provides multi-directional and multi-target area defence.

The Akash missile can be launched from static or mobile platforms providing flexible deployment. The system can handle multiple targets and destroy manoeuvring targets such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), fighter aircraft, cruise missiles and missiles launched from helicopters. It can operate autonomously, and engage and neutralize different aerial targets simultaneously.

BASICSGuided Munition SystemGuided munition system is used in guided missiles ,usually containing conventional or nuclear explosives, guided towards the target in flight by remote control or by internal mechanism. >Vary widely in shape and size.

Guidance system

A guidance system is a device or group of devices used to navigate a ship, aircraft, missile, rocket.

System without human control. with human control- navigational system

INERTIAL GUIDANCE SYSTEM

This system measures the position and altitude of a vehicle by measuring the accelarations and rotations in inertial frame of system,

Based on laws of kinematics.

REMOTE CONTROL

Give instructions by remote to missile fins to move towards target.

Page 24: missile technology in india

GLOBAL POSITIONING SATELLITE(GPS) Receivers position is triangluted. Provides extremely accurate position of target.

MISSILE DEFENSE

Missile defense is a system or technology involved in detection, tracking, interception and destruction of attacking missile.

The USA,RUSSIA,ISARAEL,FRANCE and INDIA have such systems.
