Message for Minister of Culture the Hon. Mark Scotland, JP

Miss Jackie’s School of Dance“FortyTude” at the Prospect Playhouse

2013

With world-class acts, a host of performers, master classes and programmes, the local performing arts scene contributes significantly to the cultural development of the Cayman Islands, and its residents – young and old.

I believe you will agree that as adults the performing arts still have the power to expand our horizons. Imagine then the transformative potential that they bring to bear in the lives of children.

Facilities such as Miss Jackie’s offer more than just extra-curricular activities. Programmes such as these create opportunities for our youth: by putting them on the stage, allowing them to dream big, instilling discipline and a yearning for excellence. Furthermore by so doing, they build creative paths through which our young people can explore their heritage and culture in addition to those of other societies.

Culture is, of course, what binds us together and gives us a group identity. By studying it we gain respect for ourselves and others. When we involve our children in this kind of undertaking, new and potentially priceless worlds open up to them.

Creative and positive activities such as dancing also prepare our young people for life beyond school. The group setting in which these activities take place helps them to master social skills. This in turn, gives them the knowledge, self-esteem and confidence to make healthy and informed choices on their way to becoming powerful and active members of our society.

As Minister for Culture, I sincerely thank Miss Jackie and her team for their unflagging contribution towards the development of dance in the Cayman Islands. I also congratulate them on creating programmes that have, over the years, allowed us all to enjoy some delightful performances by young artists.

It is impossible to overestimate the value of such input. Nourishing our children’s artistic abilities is a major part of their development and our own as a nation.

With this mind, it is the Ministry’s hope that Miss Jackie’s School of Dance will continue to grow and to thrive for at least the next four decades. It is a much-needed facility that enriches, inspires, educates and entertains!

ForewardMiss Jackie’s School of Dance“FortyTude”

June 2013

Some ten years have passed since Miss Jackie asked me to write the foreword to “Memories” which celebrated her thirty years of significant contribution to dance, our culture and our community.

In some ways how quickly those ten years seem to have passed but in others the extensive development and changes that have taken place within our society make it seem like a long time.

I was truly delighted and honoured to be asked to write this foreword for “Fortytude” now celebrating the indefatigable tenacious spirit and work of Miss Jackie and her team for the past forty years since the founding of The Ballet School in 1973. I am proud to say that I have known Miss Jackie and her family for all of that time, so I do not use the above words lightly.

During these forty years our blessed Cayman Islands have undergone tremendous change and development growing substantially both in terms of the number of people and nationalities all of which have had a profound effect on our culture.

Of course, any country’s culture is not static or changeless. On the contrary it is in a constant state of flux, influencing and being influenced by other cultures, either through voluntary exchange and extension, or though conflict or force. A country’s culture therefore reflects its history, mores, institutions and attitudes, its social movements, conflicts and struggles. At the same time it is dynamic and continually evolving. There is probably no better medium than dance to reflect these nuances.

The diverse “Fortytude” programme reflects and showcases the development of our changing and developing culture using some 80 dancers from age group 3 to …….( Miss Jackie withheld the second number and it is wonderful to see all ages dance their way through life!!!). The programme includes pieces from past shows, Trophy Award winning pieces that have been performed overseas, Classic Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, but perhaps most importantly pieces that convey messages about poignant issues of our times such as, abuse, Aids and thankfully peace for all.

Tonight you are here to enjoy the spectacle of a great evening of entertainment and fun. We are blessed in Cayman to have people like Miss Jackie who together with her dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly contributing to our cultural development. A huge thank you to all the performers for providing a truly remarkable evening for us all to enjoy.

I look forward to the next ten years.

God Bless

For 37 years, Mrs. Jackie Balls has positively influenced thousands of girls in Cayman, enhancing character, self-image and cultural diversity.

Dance is the medium she still uses to impact their young lives, ranging from classical to modern, energetic to lyrical, and exuberant to artistic. She adds her own style to coax the best out of her students, inspiring them to display talents that many did not even know they have.

Her dedication to dance has made Miss Jackie a cultural icon in Cayman, as well as a household name. She remains true to her conviction that everyone can dance and her devoted teaching always reinforces that message.

But Miss Jackie does more than attune her students to the beauty of rhythm, form and balance. More importantly, she imparts the value of endurance, hard work, disciplined effort and teamwork to every one of her students, some as young as three, others in high school and beyond, qualities that continue to stand even former students in good stead.

Her love for dance stemmed from a childhood spent learning classical ballet in her native Guyana. Miss Jackie’s talents shone so brightly even into adulthood, that soon after her family arrived on Grand Cayman in 1972, she was persuaded to open The Ballet School at St. Ignatius School with 32 members.

Within just two years, Nature’s Four Seasons, a dancefest the likes of which Cayman had never seen, took centre stage in the capital’s Town Hall. Since then the school, renamed Miss Jackie’s School of Dance, moved into its own premises at Pasadora Place and has staged many major productions to showcase ballet, tap, jazz, modern dance and drama.

When it comes to putting on shows, her enthusiasm has never dimmed for they

provide opportunities to reinforce her unwavering belief in her pupils’ abilities. But they also allow her to pursue her first love, choreography, as well as set design which offers an outlet for her painting skills.

Through dance, Miss Jackie has provided a healthy outlet for children to engage in wholesome after-school activity, focusing on a disciplined art form, one that shapes both minds and bodies.

And through her Ballet Magnificat Club, she has also elevated dance to embrace worship. The club comprises a group of devoted students who are able to share God’s love, pray, read scripture and dance. Funds from their dancing engagements go to charity, while proceeds from regular performances have gone towards a number of deserving causes.

Keen to provide more than mere dancing instruction, Miss Jackie has organised fun trips to places like New York, Orlando and Miami, enabling students to experience theatre, drama and dance as well as interact with Broadway performers.

Also involved with writing the dance curriculum for Cayman’s government schools, her approach has long focused on giving students a foundation for life and more practically, to provide dance scholarships to deserving young persons.

In 1999, this energetic Cayfest and Children’s Festival of the Arts supporter received the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s Creativity Award for her sustained promotion of dance in the Cayman Islands.

Ever thankful for what she describes as a ‘blessed life,’ Miss Jackie also acknowledges the keen involvement of her family, husband Peter, daughter Carol Ann and son Peter John, as well as her extended family, her students and fellow teachers. She loves them all!

A huge Thank you to some very special peopleKaren ChungAbout the artist & the artwork. Karen my niece is better known as my other ‘daughter’. Her love and appreciation for the Arts are beautifully depicted in the cover of ‘40Tude’ which she designed and painted.

Karen has certainly captured the beauty of the dance styles in the lyrical figures she chose to use. To quote her ‘It’s all about movement, expression, grace … spirit that the students of Miss Jackie’s School of Dance experience’. Karen also designed the program covers for ‘Disney meets Broadway’ and ‘Memories’. When the Studio opened in Pasadora Place her artwork graced the walls with figures from ‘Lion King’. Sadly this was destroyed during Hurricane Ivan. I am forever grateful for Karen for finding time – usually late at night after her busy day in the world of finance.

Maxine EversonMy sister Maxine arrived off the plane in 1973, I think she was still suffering from shock at what greeted her. Here is her story in short:

I was given a hand sketched plan with instructions to buy fabric from Kays, find the only 2 story house along South Sound and introduce myself to Maryln Smith (Jackie’s piano player) who would give me a sewing machine. Amid sewing mounds of tulle, I finished ‘Giselle’s costume’ an hour before curtain call! More instructions for ‘A Christmas Fantasy – The Nutcracker!’ Please, pretty pleeese, can you make costumes for the Prince Charming, King Rat, Clara, The Nutcracker, and Fritz. Next came Alice in Wonderland with three Alice’s and the white rabbit – you know the story. Needless to say the costumes had to be exact replicas!

Lots of bits and pieces fixed, designed and redesigned along the years. 40Tude is a nostalgic walk. Making Mother Ginger look ‘hip’ and the Indian dancers jiggling their hips; with head pieces designed to twirl exactly as Jackie wanted. Costume sewing is a challenge I love! I sew best under pressure to a strict timeline. I rarely sew for myself but continue to sew costumes for my grand children Danny and Emily and Jackie’s future productions!

Peter & Penny PhillipsIt would be remiss of me not to mention the dynamic ‘Phillips’ duo who tirelessly worked behind the scenes for most of my Shows over the past 40 years. Of special mention must be the early shows in the George Town, Town Hall where Peter made ‘snow’ fall in ‘A Christmas Fantasy’, ‘rabbit holes’ which appeared out of nowhere for ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and scenery that would rival any Broadway production. Besides making sure that I ate proper meals during the numerous shows, Penny’s artistic ability in set design enabled us to incredibly and miraculously blend African trees (Penny grew up in Kenya) and Guyanese (my background) into stunning backdrops. Quite a feat! Thank you guys for 40 year of friendship both on and off stage!

Martin WicksI asked Martin when was it that we first hooked up? The question seems simple enough but Martin has always been there for my shows. He has done ‘almost’ everything that I have asked him to do and much more. He invested in ‘tails’ so that he could greet my invited dignitaries in style at my 30th Anniversary show ‘Memories’. He donned mouse ears and big feet to play ‘Mickey’ for Disney meets Broadway. He became my ‘Big Spender’ in ‘A Night on Broadway’ but he drew the line when I wanted to put him in a ‘tutu’ – who can blame him! So it is with humble jubilation that I felt when he said he was flying all the way from Australia to help me ‘tear up tickets’ and to celebrate the School’s milestone ‘40Tude’. ‘What would I do without you!’ – Thank you for all the years …..

The School

The Balls family arrived in Grand Cayman in 1972 and after much persuasion, ‘Miss Jackie’, as she is affectionately called, decided to open ‘The Ballet School’. The caption of the Caymanian Compass 1973 read ‘Ballet is back in Cayman’.

In January 1973 under a reciprocal agreement with St. Ignatius Catholic School (formerly ‘Our Lady of Perpetual Help’) The Ballet School opened it’s doors with 32 students. Since it’s inception Miss Jackie managed the School as Principal, Teacher, Choreographer and Artistic Director and for 26 years Miss Jackie single-handedly instructed all dance classes.

In the early years there were numerous shows staged in the George Town, Town Hall. The first recital was ‘Nature’s Four Seasons’. As the School grew, larger productions such as ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘The Nutcracker’ were presented. In the 1970s providing music for the shows was a challenge as in those days all show music was on piano script. However Marilyn Smith, our resident pianist, took on the challenges magnificently. She would transpose many a classical piece from one key to another often muttering ‘You want me to do what?! You’re kiddin right?’ She worked miracles to get the music exactly how Miss Jackie wanted it. On performance nights she would play the piano continuously for two hours with just one small intermission break. She also managed to lend her soprano voice along with Ian Boxall for the opening number of “Easter Parade” before siting down in full costume at the piano. This may not seem like much but in those days there was no air-condition in the Town Hall.

In 1998 The School moved to its new home in Pasadora Place. With the new premises came a new name ‘Miss Jackie’s School of Dance’ and from this location Miss Jackie was able to offer more classes in all the different dance styles from the beautiful movements of Classical ballet to the snazzy Broadway numbers. For the first time since it’s inception the School also hired Teachers to assist with the growing number of students which in turn, gave Miss Jackie more time to pursue her first love … choreography.

At the inception of ‘Miss Jackie’s School of Dance’ in Pasadora Place the School’s Dance company was formed, the ‘Magnificat Club’. This is a free complimentary class offered to devoted dancers of the School of which the only criteria is regular attendance and dedication. The students meet once a week on a regular basis to share God’s love, pray, read scripture and dance. The Magnificat Club has performed at a multitude of functions throughout Grand Cayman.

Over the years Miss Jackie has awarded over twentyfive Dance Scholarships to children living in the Cayman Islands to attend classes free of charge at Miss Jackie’s School of Dance. The School’s Scholarship was offered to any child (from any School on the Island) who Miss Jackie believed deserved the opportunity of enhancing their dancing experience.

Miss Jackie has also taken some of her students overseas to compete in Dance competitions held in Orlando and New York. Besides being good ambassadors for the Cayman Islands the students returned home bringing many trophies. While abroad they participated in master classes and attended workshops given by professional dancers on every aspect of what to expect if they wanted to have a career in Dance. After a full day of classes they were treated to Broadway shows such as Mama Mia, Phantom, Oklahoma, and Radio City Hall where they toured back stage. After each performance the students met with the cast and were allowed to ask questions.

This year to celebrate 40 years of teaching dance in the Cayman Islands Miss Jackie will be awarding two individuals a “Full Lifetime Scholarship” to Miss Jackie’s School of Dance. This Scholarship will award the recipient to a lifetime of free classes for all forms of dance styles offered at Miss Jackie’s School of Dance. In return the deserving candidate must show a commitment and respect to her class work, peers, Teachers and most importantly, to themselves as the recipient of such a wonderful award.

Miss Jackie is a great supporter of art and dance in the Cayman Islands and her involvement across the years includes the ‘Children’s Festival of the Arts’ and ‘Cayfest’ as well as assisting Cayman’s youth with choreography for dance productions and competitions, including the Miss Teen and Miss Cayman competitions. She has also been involved with writing the ‘Dance Curriculum’ for the Government Schools of the Cayman Islands.

In 1999 The Cayman National Cultural Foundation presented Miss Jackie with the ‘Creativity Award’ for her long outstanding efforts to promote dance in the Cayman Islands and on Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s 2011 Birthday Honours Celebrations, Miss Jackie was awarded the Cayman Islands Certificate and Badge of Honour.

Lifetime Scholarship

Kate BowringI first met Miss Jackie in 1980 when she was the choreographer I was helping backstage with the Cayman Drama Society’s production of Jack and the Beanstalk. As a result of a cast member dropping out, I got “promoted” to a village child

and which meant learning the chorus dances. I have participated in several of Miss Jackie’s productions over the years. The obvious difficulty has been overcoming the physical impediment of two left feet, however what I lack in ability I make up for in enthusiasm. I have been attending Zumba classes at Miss Jackie’s for 3 years.

Kerrie McMillanIt all began when I was asked to step in as Stage Manager (dogs-body) for a ‘Night on Broadway.’ Having always had an interest in the theatre and particularly dance I was happy to help out. Little did I know….. Miss Jackie demanding - no kidding, and for good reason, her shows are professional and polished to the highest standard. Next came Zumba. Jackie was so enthusiastic about this new wave of dance exercise, who could say no!

You want us to do what - wish we were thirty years younger, were some of the mumblings heard around the studio. ‘Fusion’ followed, show-casing the many talents of pupils who had been with Jackie for many years. My dogs –body talents were called upon again.

So now, celebrating Forty Years of Dance in the Cayman Islands, I am happy to assist in this very special occasion. Well done Miss Jackie. And for the record, my ‘dogs-body’ status has been promoted to Producer. Enjoy the Show.

Camielle ShortFrom the inception of Zumba classes at Miss Jackie’s School of Dance in August 2009 I’ve been an enthusiastic, active member loving it. (Thanks Miss J!) I’ve tried the Gym many times before and would always backslide and eventually give up after a while as I’m one of those people who would count the seconds until my 5 or 10 minutes are up on a machine but say the word “dance”

and I’m there! Never had any kind of training but love any and all dance (just not a fan of the “Electric Slide” as you know Cabby!). The hour flies by when you’re enjoying it so much you don’t realize that you’re actually working out until the sweat is pouring off you! Love the music too! Our classes are always fun with not too much pressure to “perform” dance wise once you keep moving and exercising with a general sense of the dance movements - everyone’s happy.

Sabrina FosterI was born in Jamaica but raised in Grand Cayman, Canada and the Bahamas. I returned home to Grand Cayman at the age of 19 and have remained in Cayman ever since. I attended Miss Jackie’s School of Dance at the tender age of 4 years old. Although maintained an interest in the arts I pursued a career in law. I’ve been practicing law for over 15 years and currently a partner at Paget-Brown, Attorneys-at-Law. My husband, Woody Foster, and I have 4 children, the youngest of which, Charli Foster (age 5), is now a student of Miss Jackie’s. In my spare time I enjoy cross-fit and spinning and have recently become a certified spinning instructor.

Sabrina Foster

Judy McTaggartI remember the days walking over from the Cayman Island High School, to the St. Ignatius Catholic School’s hall, back in the 70’s to attend Miss Jackie’s dance classes, back then it was only ballet, as the years passed we were introduced to tap and jazz. Our performances were held at the Town Hall in George Town. Those times were a lot of fun, not too much different today, only a little bit heavier and more clumsy!! Zumba suits us fine, we all enjoy it as we all love to dance. Thank you Miss Jackie for your dedication over the years, can’t believe it’s now 40 years, our last performance on stage was 10 years ago. Enjoy the show!!

Wendy MooreAs one of the original students I can honestly say that I have enjoyed lifelong benefits from my time at Miss Jackie’s School of Dance. From the joy of dance to the joy of performing on stage, little did I realize the doors that dance, and the lessons learned at Miss Jackie’s, would open for me! Miss Jackie demanded discipline, dedication and hard work and I gained confidence, poise and focus. I also gained lasting friendships, not only with the other students, but with Miss Jackie too. Thank you Miss Jackie, for providing such a positive, impactful environment to so many of us.

Wendy Moore

Charmaine RichterI am an attorney-at-law with Travers Thorp Alberga. I am also a businesswoman; my husband and I have a small wholesale/retail business. After a long day I look forward to Zumba with Miss Jackie. It is great way of relieving the stress of the day and getting a really good workout. Miss Jackie and I, and some of the other Zumba sisters, have known each other since the late 70s when we performed with the then Drama Society. Our first production together was South Pacific. Miss Jackie played the enchanting Liat! I am proud of Miss Jackie for the way she has continued the ballet school and now is a certified Zumba instructor. When I grow up I wanna be just like her!

Carol Ann Balls40 years ago was Miss Jackie’s first production and her creative adventures reads like a dance shopping list … 24 major dance productions, countless charity performances including the Pink Ladies annual Christmas Bazaar, numerous Festival of the Arts and overseas Dance Competitions with trophies and medals won, Miss Jackie’s infamous comment “This is my last show”, over 1000s pieces of music reviewed, over 750 choreographed dances, 100s of rehearsals. 100s of late nights creating and decorating sets. 100s of “Let’s run through that just one more time …”, another “This is my last show .. really”, 100s of costumes, 100s of ballet slippers and tights, 100s of hair clips, hair nets & bobby pins, 100s of tubes of mascara, powder & lipstick, 100s of sore muscles, bumps and bruises, 100s of bandaids, just one more “This is my last show … ever”.

My first performance on Miss Jackie’s stage was in 1973. The last time I was under the lights was in 2003. It’s now 2013 and at 45 I get roped in to strut some ‘stuff’. How did that happen? Ah Miss Jackie’s power of persuasion. My daughter’s first performance on stage will be in “40Tude”. She’s 5. I think I have tummy-butterflies for us both! More music, costumes & choreography. Miss Jackie is amazing and “40Tude” brings three generations of the Balls family prancing on the same stage. Is this her ‘last’ show? I wonder? I hope you enjoy “40Tude!”.

Claire AndersonPost Miss Jackie’s, I survived studying dance/A-levels for 2 years at Tring Park School for Performing Arts and a year sailing the world as a dancer on P&O cruises. I am now a student in Glasgow where I have continued to dance, teach and choreograph for the Glasgow Student Dance Company. The highlight of all my dancing has been the performances. Miss Jackie’s shows would rank with the best of them by way of costumes and professionalism, despite her creative juices changing the choreography from one week to the next. This often caused ‘arguments’ amongst the dancers as to the original routine! Luckily nothing has changed and I am so excited to be a part of *40Tude*.

Claire Anderson

Patrice DonaldsI have danced on and off for almost 3 decades (YIKES), yet I distinctly remember the day Ms. Jackie approached me to offer a year of training with her school....FOR FREE. I was 17 and full of my own self importance, but in that moment, I was shocked and awed that my performance had inspired her to offer a training scholarship. That year was my toughest period of ballet training to this day (bruised toes, ego and sore muscles to boot). But even through my teenage angst, I saw how much my body changed, I saw how much my performance improved, and I grew to love her no-nonsense approach to learning the craft and core discipline, almost as much as I love her creative freedom with choreography (you know what I am talking about *SMILE*). Ms. Jackie, you have impacted two generations of dancers and their children through your love and passion. I too am turning 40 this year so here’s a double toast to 40 more years...with you and your many prodigies!

Patrice Donalds

Michelle LockwoodA reunion show? Of course I’ll be a part of it! Would love to! During the first rehearsal Miss Jackie walks us through how she wants us to move through the dance. I ask, “Miss Jackie how many counts for me to turn into position?” She puts the sheet down, “You know I don’t count!” Only a dancer will understand what I mean, but those of Miss Jackie’s students (both past and present) know that Miss Jackie definitely has a unique way of teaching, one all her own. Congratulations on forty years and here’s to many more!

Michelle Lockwood

Rory MannFor the safety of audience members and performers alike, Rory has elected not to dance in this evenings performance. Instead, allow yourself to be transported back to a time when dresses were long, hats big and the rain in Spain stayed mainly in the plain.

Sabrina JacksonIt has been about 9 years and a couple of injuries since I have set foot on a stage but I could not be more excited to be a part of the 40th Anniversary Show. Dancing again with my fellow younger generation “oldies” brings back a lot of great memories for me and I was happy to hear Miss Jackie say that after all these years you never lost your technique! Especially since her famous phrase was, “You girls would forget your heads if they weren’t sewed on....now let’s run through the dance ONE more time!!”

Born and raised in Grand Cayman, I trained at Miss Jackie’s School of Dance for 14 years until I left the island for University. Though I loved ballet, I decided to pursue a different career path and after obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science at The Art Institutes in Fort Lauderdale, I am now a practicing Interior Designer in Cayman. When not designing, I enjoy exercising, reading a good book at the beach, catching up with friends and quality time with my boyfriend and family

Sabrina Jackson

Kirstie McMillanI started dancing with Miss Jackie at the age of eight-and continued until I left for university three years ago. Growing up-dance played a huge role in my life, with the studio becoming my second home. Miss Jackie not only taught us how to dance and express ourselves through dance, but also disciplined us through time management, as showing up late to class was never an option. The girls I danced with have remained my dearest friends, and so I would like to thank Miss Jackie for putting up with me over the years, especially when I was giggling away in the corner. Thank you Miss Jackie for so many wonderful memories. Kirstie McMillan

Chelsea SmithI attended Ms Jackies School of Dance from the ages of 4 - 16 as I left Cayman for school. I was a joker in the class in my younger years, and as I got older I began to take dance more serious. I have learned that I am a performer and when we did performances for an audience I got feelings of nervousness mixed with excitement and a thrill. Performing with others also helped develop a level of teamwork with the other girls, many of which I am still friends with to this day. Even now I continue to dance in my spare time as I have always enjoyed the freedom to express myself in such an active form. Ms Jackie’s has helped me grow into the person I am today and I am forever grateful for the many memories and experiences I have gained.

Dance is a dynamic art form which transcends nationality, language and ethnicity. It is a wonderful cultural pursuit and a vibrant part of our artistic heritage. It is the art in which the human movement becomes the medium for sensing, feeling, understanding and communicating ideas and experiences.

Dance can play an important role in the academic and athletic development of our children, teaching lessons about form, balance and artistry that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Dancing is a way of life. From daily class to the heady pursuit of artistic perfection, dancers exist in a perpetual state of learning, reaching above and beyond personal limitations to achieve their potential. A dancer’s work is like a cultivated garden never quite completed, always growing.

Dancers become what they dream, they dance what they feel, their dancing takes on the shapes that their spirits imagine… their ideals are written in the expression of their faces, in the way they move.

To all my little ones … tonight some of you will be on stage for the very first time. I know that this will be one of those experiences that you will never forget. When you get older you will remember the lights, the colourful costumes, the audience and most of all the applause. To my Junior dancers … I have watched your progress with care and tonight I am very proud of how you have settled down and have become serious little dancers. Well done!

To my New Teens … you should be very proud of yourselves. I know that I am very proud of you. These last few months have been challenging for you. I have seen you struggle with the discipline of dance and the different types of choreography that were unfamiliar to you. Each one of you has made outstanding achievements. Good job!

To my ‘Original’ Teens Thank you for being you. You took on the role of learning the ‘Award’ dances with such enthusiasm and I have watched as you helped the younger and newer students. You have been good role models showing self-discipline and determination and you have demonstrated how much you can achieve despite the bruises, sore muscles and blistered toes.

There is nothing in life quite as worthy as a goal attained which you have strived to achieve. All you need is the courage to try and the faith in yourself to believe. You alone set your standards and you have within your reach the ability to make your dreams become a reality. Remember as you walk through this world you are not alone. Scatter seeds of kindness wherever you go, as kindness is the sunshine in which virtue grows. Remember to hug someone every day.

To my ‘Gals’… You’ve done it again! You have jumped in with such ‘Zip’ and you have all been such good sports and risen to the challenge. It’s been fun having you in class … dare I say ‘Just like old times!’

To the Parents of the students … I believe that everyone can dance. My aim is to provide the best possible training to every student, from the beginner to the advanced, in order to assist them achieve their highest level of accomplishment. From the classical beauty of Ballet, to the rhythms of Tap, to the expressionism of Lyrical, we offer every student the instruction they need to develop their talents and reach their personal goals.

We are committed to fostering a caring, friendly and relaxed atmosphere however discipline is one of the School’s strongest assets. Through the medium of dance we strive to inspire self-confidence, a spirit of cooperation among students and an opportunity for growth in their personal lives.

I understand the effort that it takes from the children and their families to make a production such as ‘40Tude’ grow from a dream to a reality. I understand and appreciate all the inconveniences and hassles you have endured with getting your child to extra rehearsals and the additional expenses you have incurred for the sake of this production.

Miss Jackie and the Teachers of Miss Jackie’s School of Dance thank you for giving us the opportunity to work with your children. Your efforts and support will be your child’s memories of tomorrow. So now sit back, enjoy ‘40Tude’ and absorb the talents of our young performers! What you will experience tonight are the fruits of hard work, discipline, dedication and a continuous strive for excellence. ‘40Tude’ will reveal the achievements our young performers have attained. Your children are the future of Art and Dance.

Please remember that applause is a dancer’s reward.

God Bless.Miss Jackie, Artistic Director

Gabrielle Alyssa Beth... Gabby

Gabrielle started formal contemporary dance classes at 3+years old and ballet as 5 years old. Gabrielle was born to dance... Daily Gabby can be seen cart wheeling instead of walking to get from place to place. Gabby can’t seem to keep still when she hears music and sometimes she dances to her own melody.

Congrats Gabby you were born for the stage... born a star!!
