    TOWARDS A POETICS OF EPIC FORMULAPROPOSITIONS FOR DISCUSSION

    S u m m a r y

    This paper offers eight points for a future discussion about Parry-Lord's wellknown and generally accepted definition of epic formula. They are proposed as alogical outcome of presented analysis which was developed as a probe of Parry-Lordian method and its applicability to the problems and material of Serbian de-casyllabic epic poetry. Those points are:1. As a phraseological unit, epic form ula is a tool resulting from the wo rkin g

    of formulaity within the framework of the secondary linguistic system of epicpoetry; the relation between them is a generic one, formulaity being onlyone of conditions necessary for creating formulas and not identical with them
