1 INTRODUCTION This installation procedure will cover the steps necessary to install MIRAX Digital Slide Desktop. It is recommended that installation of the MIRAX Digital Slide Desktop software be handled by someone who is trained in network administration. 1.1 Copyright© 2008 Zeiss This document may not be copied in whole or in part or reproduced in any other media without the express written permission of Zeiss. 2 PREREQUISITES The following items must be installed before the installation of MDSD. Please install them in the order listed. The prerequisites are available on the install CD in the _PreReq folder.

1. IIS (this is part of Windows installation and is not included in the _PreReq folder). 2. .NET Framework v2.0 – dotnetfx20.exe.

a. Service Packs and patches for the framework can be found at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

3. ASP.Net AJAX Extensions v1.0 – ASPAJAXExtSetup.msi 4. SQL Server Express – SQLSetup.bat

a. In lieu of SQL Server Express, other editions of SQL Server 2000 and 2005 may be used as long as the machine they run is accessible from the machine where MDSD is being installed.

5. Java Runtime Environment v1.6.0_07 – jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe. 6. Apache Tomcat v6.0.16 – apache-tomcat-6.0.16.exe.

3 SPECIAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

• .Net Framework – follow all default steps. • ASP.Net AJAX Extensions – follow all default steps. • SQL Server Express – this install includes a batch file which will install all needed

components. It will also install the program with no additional input.

List of components installed:

1. SQL Server Database Services a. Data Files

2. Client Components a. Connectivity Components b. Management Studio Express

• Java Runtime – follow all default steps. • Apache Tomcat – from the Choose Components screen, select Full from the

Select type of install dropdown. Once Tomcat is installed, the Apache Tomcat Properties window will appear. In the Maximum memory pool text field, enter 256 (Fig. 1).

4 INSTALLING MDSD 4.1 InstallShield Wizard Window • From the primary InstallShield Wizard window (Fig. 2), click Next.

4.2 License Agreement Window • From the License Agreement window (Fig. 3), read the license agreement and

select I accept the terms in the license agreement to continue with installation. • Click Next.

4.3 Customer Information Window If the license agreement is accepted, the Customer Information window (Fig. 4) will open. • Input a User Name and Organization and then click Next.

4.4 Destination Folder Window By default, the D: drive will be chosen as the destination folder if it exists and is a local drive. Refer to the Appendix for folder customization instructions. • Click Next to proceed to the next window.

4.5 Database Server Window If the prerequisite database has been installed as previously outlined, leave the settings as they are. To attach to another SQL Server, modify the information as needed. • Click Next to proceed to the next window.

4.6 Ready to Install the Program Window • Click Install to begin the installation.

4.7 InstallShield Wizard Completed Window • Click Finish to complete the installation of MDSD.

5 APPENDIX – CUSTOMIZATION AND TROUBLESHOOTING 5.1 Destination Folder Customization To install into a location other than d:\, follow the steps below.

• Modify the web.config located in [INSTALL DRIVE]\websites\mdsd:

1. Find <add key="SlideRoots" value="d:\images\slides~D Drive~sds"/> 2. Change the ‘d:\’ to ‘[INSTALL DRIVE]:\’ 3. Change ‘D Drive’ to ‘[INSTALL DRIVE] Drive’

• Modify dss-config.xml:

1. Modify the dss-config.xml in C:\Program Files\Apache Software

Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\webapps\tile-server\WEB-INF 2. It is easiest to edit with WordPad due to the unix line breaks 3. Find this line: <root-path prefix="/sds" path="d:/images/slides"/> 4. Change the ‘d:/’ to ‘[INSTALL DRIVE]:/

• Modify IIS Manager:

1. Open IIS Manager 2. Navigate to “(local computer) > websites > MDSD > sds” 3. Edit “sds” key 4. Change "Local Path:" from ‘d:/’ to ‘[INSTALL DRIVE]:/’

5.2 IT Troubleshooting

If an HTTP 404 Not Found window (Fig. 9) opens upon initiation of the MDSD program, verify that ASP.NET 2.0 is enabled (Fig. 10)
