SUBE01Z01WR - V1 Miranda Garling Mandy Garling, 33, was born in the Northern Territory and comes from a fascinating mix of cultures. Her Aboriginal Yarrabah heritage comes from Queensland and she is lucky to be also infuenced by her other backgrounds of Indonesian, Sri Lankan, English and Maori. Mandy has been singing since she was eight years of age, and started to play the guitar when she was eleven. This is made extra special as Mandy was born deaf. She says “I was not able to be like a normal child. I was put into a special class in primary school, because I was unable to be a part of a mainstream class. I remember when my parents took me to the hospital to have an operation on my ears. The doctors thought they would try grommets in both ears, and praise the lord, it was a miracle”. When Mandy’s ears came alive to sound she started to love music wanted to be a singer. Growing up Mandy never had a guitar or vocal lesson but shared her unique talents singing around campfres with her family and playing percussion. When she was 12 years of age, she started to write her own lyrics. In 2003 Mandy won a scholarship to go to Tamworth and was mentored by Kasey Chambers, Beccy Cole, Troy Cassar Daly and John Williamson. Her style is RNB / COUNTRY. San Cisco, the sunny four piece from Fremantle comprised of Nick Gardner (bass), Jordi Davieson (vocals, guitar), Scarlett Stevens (vocals, drums) and Josh Biondillo (guitar, vocals); have been making catchy, upbeat music since they started playing together in high school. Australia fell in love with their quirky call-and-response single, ‘Awkward’ and they’ve since released their debut album to critical acclaim, awarded triple j feature album and sold out national tours around their home country. Cementing their status as a promising Australian act, San Cisco are now taking the rest of the world by storm. Inking a deal with US labels Fat Possum/RCA and teaming up with Columbia in the UK, they’ve travelled the globe, performed at SXSW in Texas and sold out their own headline shows in Minnneapolis, San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles, as well as supporting the likes of Darwin Deez and The Vaccines in the UK and US & Chicago’s Lollapalooza – one of four Australian acts chosen to play. They’ve pricked up ears at NME, The Guardian and other respected outlets around the globe, so it won’t be long before everyone has caught onto their infectious, indie-pop!
