Counseling News

M A R A U D E R M A S K

AP EXAMS We have finished the first week of AP testing, and we have more tests on campus next week. Stu-dents coming on to campus to take exams must complete their Clearpass prior to coming to the testing location, wear a mask at all times, and maintain social distancing. Students taking any digi-tal exams must be sure to launch the app and do the practice exam prior to taking their digital test. Contact Mrs. Blanchard at [email protected] if there are issues so we can work to resolve them before testing day. Visit https://sites.google.com/sandi.net/mmhscounseling/testing-and-test-prep to get the most current information about testing, report times, and testing locations. AT-RISK SENIORS The grading period ends May 7th and counselors will meet with seniors who may be at risk for earning a diploma this June. At the meeting, the counselor and senior will discuss the concern and solutions to improve grades. A letter will be mailed or emailed home to these seniors’ parents/guardians. MIRAMAR COLLEGE – PRE-ENROLLMENT For seniors heading off to Miramar College, staff from Miramar College are offering two final op-portunities for seniors to participate in a virtual pre-enrollment workshop if they have not already done this. They will be May 19th and June 8th at 1:30. Students only need to attend one session, and they will help students complete the steps necessary for the Promise program and enrollment. By participating in the enrollment workshop, seniors will get priority registration which means they are selecting their classes before other students. Classes in college can fill up, so getting pri-ority will truly be a benefit. Get the link to register at: https://sites.google.com/sandi.net/mmhscounseling/seniors/miramar-college FAFSA/DREAM ACT APPLICATIONS Seniors who submitted the FAFSA or the California Dream Act application need to create an ac-count on the California Student Aid Commission WebGrants 4 Students. This website will allow seniors to see what California grants they may have earned to help them pay for college. Seniors also need to state on this website where they will attend college so that any grants they have earned can be made available to their selected college. The website is: https://mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov/. For specific financial aid questions, seniors will likely need to com-municate with the financial aid staff at the college they will attend. SUMMER SCHOOL – ONLINE OR ON SITE OPTIONS Summer school is from June 21-July 30, and students have the option to make up D or F grades either in person right here at MMHS or online through the school iHigh. If students attend in per-son, they have a chance to earn up for 4 credits which normally does not happen, so this could be a great opportunity for students who need to make up multiple classes. Here is a link for summer school information and for applications: https://sites.google.com/sandi.net/mmhscounseling/2021-summer-school. STUDENT EMAIL ([email protected]) Please encourage your student to check their district email on a daily basis. Not all messages sent to a student’s district email are from a teacher’s Google Classroom. For example, the district and Mr. Hawkins have been trying to reach out to our students who will be taking college classes next year to complete required documents via the student’s school email. If a student does not fill out the college forms, they will be dropped from taking that class. Other information could be about college visits, summer school applications, or scholarship opportunities just to name a few.
