Brandy Keller - Community Brands

Some of you may remember Brandy from previous MIP User Conferences.

She is the Director of Product Management and Product Marketing for Non-

Profit Solutions at Community Brands (Abila Software’s parent company).

Since 2010 Brandy has been focused on the development and marketing of

technology solutions built specifically for non-profit and government sectors,

working closely with these organization to understand and solve their

challenges.

Brandy has been an avid volunteer since childhood and continues to volunteer, working primarily with

non-profits that specialize in child advocacy and animal welfare. In the past she has served on the

board of two animal welfare organizations in Austin, TX.

Sarah Speed - Executive Director, Judiciary Committee Pennsylvania

House of Representatives

Sarah has been involved with non-profit organizations through her work

with various Animal Welfare Societies and as the Executive Director of the

Judiciary Committee for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Upon

graduation from the University of San Diego Law School, Sarah recognized

a need for effective communication with policy makers within non-profit organizations and the

importance of grassroots fundraising.

As you may have guessed, in her spare time she enjoys enriching the lives and welfare of animals and

of her two children.

Michael Golub, CPA - President and Founder of NP Solutions - Los Angeles

Michael is head of the consulting department, but wears many hats at NP

Solutions. For the past 25+ years he has been recognized as a non-profit

consulting expert, an Authorized Abila MIP Channel Partner, Certified Trainer,

and President’s Circle Winner. He utilizes his CPA experience to provide a whole

systems approach to project management for our engagements.

In his spare time Michael can be found perfecting his grandfathering skills, taking weekend rides on his

motorcycle and improving his golf game.

Heath Castellano - Senior Consultant for NP Solutions - Los Angeles

Heath is one of NP Solutions Project Managers, responsible for implementing

new systems and providing on-going support for our existing MIP user

community. Beyond standard MIP fund accounting modules, Heath has

expertise with Payroll, HR, EWS and Microix PO/Requisition/Inventory. He is

the resident Online Fundraising guru making sure clients get up and running on

web-based tools that enhance fundraising and advocacy efforts.

When Heath isn’t enriching the lives of MIP users he can be found spending time with his wife and son,

playing music and volunteering at his church and in the local community.

Patti Miele - Senior Consultant for NP Solutions - Seattle

Patti is a well regarded session leader at our Conferences and other events NP

Solutions sponsors. Her 20+ years of non-profit accounting in positions from

cost accountant to controller to finance director, her penchant for MIP and her

methodical approach to project management make her a favorite with our

clients. In addition to fund accounting expertise, Patti works with our

fundraising and interim staffing (WA) offerings.

Pat Lavine - Managing Partner for NP Solutions - Houston

Pat has been implementing Abila MIP Fund Accounting for as long as there has

Been an Authorized Channel Partner program (one of the original resellers).

Pat is a Senior Consultant and Managing Partner for NP Solutions’ Houston

and Louisiana offices. His enormous compassion and personal energy for social

Issues is evident when you spend time with him. His expertise with MIP is with

governmental and quasi-governmental agencies.

Outside of work Pat likes to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren, and rare coin

collecting.

Maile Pa’alani, CPA - Senior Manager (WIPFLI) - Madison, WI

We’re delighted to have Maile join us for this year’s Conference. Maile holds a

Master’s Degree in Social Services Administration and as a former auditor and

federal law and regulation trainer for non-profits brings a wealth of knowledge to

the Conference. While Maile is an accomplished MIP consultant attendees will

benefit form her compliance experience.

MIP Payroll Introduction - Every year we see large sums paid to outside processing companies to

print checks and produce tax reports. Additionally, the manual work done to manipulate the data

provided in order to post those transactions to MIP is time consuming and subject to balancing and

other errors. Learn how to use Payroll to save time money and more accurately record employee costs.

MIP Payroll Advanced - Now that you know the basics of payroll we’ll dig deeper into this module

and how to make corrections, process off-cycle checks, prepare tax filings and year-end reports and

forms.

HR Basics - MIP’s HR module is a building block that adds not only employee information, like

education and certification tracking, but also adds significant payroll enhancements through Benefit

and Leave Plans as well as the ability to script specific custom actions. This session will introduce and

review the primary functions of the HR module.

Employee Web Services (EWS) Set Up & Processing - If automating timesheets and allowing

employees to have more access to their information is a priority for your organization, EWS may be the

answer. This session will review the timekeeping and reporting capabilities of EWS along with

processing Benefit Enrollment through MIP.

HR Benefit Plans & Leave Activities - There is a lot you can do with MIPS’s HR module. This

session will explore complex Benefit and Leave Plans, mass updating, multiple employee pay rates as

well as enhanced Employee Web Services (EWS) functionality.

HR Reports, Queries & Report Writer - The HR module has its own, separate from accounting,

report writer. Learn how to generate, print and distribute HR reports. We’ll also demonstrate the

query feature to format your reports.

Accounts Payable Fundamentals - Every organization has bills to pay. In this session we’ll review

the primary Accounts Payable functions of Vendor Maintenance, writing checks and running Accounts

Payable reports.

Accounts Payable Advanced (Two-Part Session)- There is a lot more to Accounts Payable processing

then creating vendors and writing checks. We will review correcting posted transactions, the proper

procedure for voiding checks, 1099 processing and other processes beyond the basics.

Transaction Troubleshooting - We all do our best to accurately input data, but sometimes the results

aren’t what we expected. This session will review how to find and fix errors in transaction entry

regardless of module.

Allocations Methodology - Cost allocation is a necessary part of accepting federal grants. We’ll

discuss what the regulations say about cost allocation, including the new 10% de minimus option.

understanding the difference between direct and indirect costing and resources for writing your own

plan.

Allocations & Distributions - If life were simple you would have a single funding source to report to

and every program and location would have discrete costs, easily identifiable. Many costs are shared

among various revenue sources, programs, departments and locations. Allocations and Distributions

provide automated tools to share those items equitably and most importantly, defensibly for your

auditors. We’ll review cost allocation requirements in the Uniform Guidance, create a direct cost

allocation plan and an indirect cost rate, and implement the 10% de minimus option.

MIP Budgeting - Unlike the government, our agencies need to live within our means. Budget and

debt ceilings can be arbitrarily raised. The MIP Budget module provides the tools to get your budgets

entered into MIP along with your revisions, multiple versions and actual/budget reporting. Come learn

how to use these tools and ease the burden of staying on track.

Advanced Budgeting With PowerPlan - While MIP Budget Management does an admirable job of

getting your budgets into MIP many organizations need more sophisticated tools to provide modeling

and real depths in budget analysis. PowerPlan is an integrated tool to create budget “scenarios” that

can be manipulated from assumptions and passed around for approvals prior to updating MIP.

Electronic Requisitions/Purchase Orders With Microix - Purchasing can be challenging if policies

and procedures aren’t followed. Using a requisition system helps ensure that money spent is approved

and properly coded, helping to maintain budgetary control and authorization integrity. Microix also

has the ability to interface with vendor web sites, offers a full inventory module, has robust workflows

and other features to help control your costs and processes.

Changes in FASB 2016-14 - We’ll discuss the new non-profit financial reporting standard, review

examples of what the changes will look like and discuss strategy and timing for implementation.

Fiscal Policies & Procedures - Learn best practices for compiling a Policy & Procedure manual and

what to include and/or add to conform with Uniform Guidance and other recent new standards.

MIP Administration - Have you ever wondered how to turn off the backup reminder when exiting

MIP? Do you have sufficient security to ensure internal controls are being followed? This session will

Review the administration of MIP including security, controls and global and workstation program

options.

3rd Party Integration (AvidXchange) - Think you might benefit from AP automation, then join

AvidXchange (Abila Development Partner) and learn the benefits of integrated MIP solution.

3rd Party Integration (Visibility Software) - Applicant tracking and training management

challenges are addressed with Visibility Software. Learn more about the software and how it

interface with MIP.

MIP Basic Reporting - The basic reporting in MIP provides lists, transactions and financial reports

along with module specific information. We will review the built-in Report Writer and show you how

to build basic reports using Content, Filters and Options.

MIP Financial Reporting - Financial reports are created with the built-in MIP Reporting tool.

But, there are some extra steps that will make your reports more relevant and customizable. This

session will take basic reporting one step farther to dig into financial statement creation and

drill-down viewer.

Reporting With Drillpoint Advanced Reporting - Many of us have a comfort zone with Excel to

format our reports or combine data where a native report falls short. Drillpoint (Advanced Reporting)

is an Excel add-on that allows you to pull information directly from the MIP database eliminating the

need to export your reports to pretty them up with all the features in Excel.

Tips & Tricks - This General Session will show you how to work smarter and more efficiently. This

interactive presentation will highlight many of the things you can do to make your work go faster and

more efficiently.
