Dear MINTMUNers,For me it goes all the

same: I can’t quit the conference and MUN movement at all. What is it? Disease, addic-tion, psychological weakness or? I kindly ask you to help me to understand it since it’s not the case of one per-son – whoever he or she is.

Personally I have had seen so many MUNs and experience both epic fails))) and greatest achievements so that i do understand some-times that it’s very easy for me to judge and much easier is to avoid any judgment since I know how it works and people are different.

There is a golden rule in my life – never judge a person! You can avoid communication with him/her, be aggressive or indifferent but never judge a person. You nev-er know what is happen-ing right now in his/her head. That is actually the main privilege of us as human beings – to be a secret to the society. Here at Minsk Interna-tional MUN we learn to reveal these secrets so that to accumulate com-mon strength and come to a peaceful solution.

“Our greatest hopes and our worst fears are seldom realized” is a quote from movie “Mu-nich” by Steven Spiel-

Non-profit organiza-tion “Office for Initia-tives Promotion” was established mainly for support ideas initi-ated by people in the sphere of education, culture and social de-velopment.

berg. And the life truth comes like that: you’ll never get the worst you are expecting, never-theless the greatest miracle doesn’t come to life until you take all your strength in your hands and start real-izing it. The miracle is only in the fact that when you start accu-mulating your strength for reaching your goal it stops being a greatest hope – it starts being your GOAL.

I sincerely wish you to have your goals wherever you are who-ever you are whenever you are. Only with a goal set you will be able to plan and act!

Just did it! MUN adventures timeHow do you think,

is it possible to have a rest full of unforgettable memories and solve in-ternational problems at one time? It seems to be impossible, but … only for boring people, not for us, yeah? Everything is real if you have an inter-est of learning something new!

How many names of European cities you know? And in which of them you`ve already been? You have an op-portunity to add to your own list Leiden, Paris,

Berlin, Nottingham and even more..!

This autumn we “dis-covered” The Netherlands, an absolutely distinct country in comparison with Belarus. Who are we? Delegates of Poland whose goal was to protect … (read nobly with pa-thos) Joking! We are just guys who had a great trip, consisting not only of 8 hours of debating every day, but admirable scen-eries, a great number of sights, interesting people and new acquaintanc-es, cultural program, in

short: “new places – new expressions”.

Now we actually have something to remember, so many funny situa-tions and occasions we met! I`ll never forget how we were walking around night lonely Amsterdam together with our luggage waiting for the moment when the railway sta-tion will be opened, how long we were searching for North Sea in Hague and how happy we were standing on its shore, how it was “unusual” to go to school as an ordi-

nary Dutch pupil by bike for more than an hour and how difficult was to find the Red Light Dis-trict in Amsterdam. All these and even more now we can call to memory with a smile.

Yes, it was a great ex-perience. Not only the conference itself (it`s obvious) but mainly that fact that you didn`t spend a week down the drain.

We hope that you`ll join us. Believe me, it`s even more wonderful than you can imagine!

Al-EXs. The Heroes of Our Time● Katiaryna Konyukh

Ex-MUNer Alexander ChebrovskiyLanguages: Russian, Belarusian, English, FrenchCurrent activity: works as a project manager in the sphere of digital mar-keting. Producer of the online show about movies “Movie on a stick” (original: “Кино на палочке”)Personal priority: harmony between you and the world around

Participation expe-rience in MUN

It’s a tricky ques-tion. The history starts from my 11th grade. I remember that I had exams then. It was a hard year. My first con-ference took place in St. Petersburg and it was a good start. Afterwards I participated in almost 20 conferences in Be-

larus and abroad – in Berlin, St. Petersburg, Wrotslaw, Leiden, War-saw. Firstly, I took part as a delegate and then as a chairman, then I’ve been Secretary General 2-3 times. Then I con-tinued my MUN career by helping the MUN Di-rector. Several years ago I finished with the con-ferences, but I still con-

tinue to communicate with MUN organizers, helping with some press materials, for example, drawing a logotype for MintMUN.

The best thing in MUN

The answer is defi-nite. People! Organiz-ers, guests from other countries and all the ac-tivities around them…

The worst thing in MUN

My approach is trying to be positive. I don’t re-member such things.

Do you miss MUN?Of course, I miss it.

This period in my life was the most fruitful, enjoyable and interest-ing. I saw many people, hundreds of guys! It’s a pity that we didn’t have Facebook then and I lost most of the connec-tions. Now you can keep in touch for years and, who knows, when you meet a delegate from Turkey, one day you can have fun together in Istanbul!

Funny stories Once there was a res-

olution which passed to the General Assem-bly and was represent-ed there. It dealt with “peace doing”. It sounds funny in Russian. But I don’t know whether you can write it in the news-paper or not.

Word of advice for a new generation of MintMUNers

Pay less attention to university, school stud-ies and more attention to some side-activities, to your self-education. You’ll understand later that you should be in-terested in many differ-ent things! Be open to some new adventures, conferences, activities. Don’t be gloomy about university studies. Take part not only in Mint-MUN conferences, but also abroad!

Ex-MUNer Alexander MandrikLanguages: Belarusian, Russian, English (a little bit), Polish (speaking), Ger-man (beginner level)Current activity: works as a marketing analyst in TEZ TOUR travel com-pany, sometimes goes as MUN Director for MUNsPersonal priority: love, career, peace, entertainment

Participation expe-rience in MUN

It’s quite difiicult to responde right now, cause i’m too old (smil-ing). And it has been so many times! My first time paticipating in Bel-aMUN was interesting... I’ve started my first conference as a mem-ber of Security Staff, but due to the absence of a CHINA delegate in Security Council I had to take place there. Af-ter that I participated in BelaMUN each year, as a delegate, then as a Chairperson. Confer-ences abroad: Peters-burg (Russia) as a del-egate and MUN Director a bit later, Leiden and Haague (Netherlands) as a delegate, after that as a MUN Director, Munchin (Germany) - MUN Director.

The best thing in MUN

PEOPLE! New people, old people, crazy people, friendly people, positive people, stupid people and so on... Meeting people, talking to them makes your inner world richer and more beauti-ful. And of course, the priceless experience you receive every time you get ready to the confer-ence.

The worst thing in MUN

Bad hangover after a party (rofl) joking. The least thing I like is paper work during the MUN, but still you will never escape such problems even in your life, that’s why we have to take it as necessary evil.

Does something link you to MUN at present?

Many different things... My girlfriend is PGA in MINTMUN right now (ac-tually we’ve met in MUN group), I am participat-ing in meetings of Org Team MUN, I like par-ties from MUN, I’ve met a lot of friends in MUN. That’s the part of my life. It was, it is, I hope it will be.

Funny storiesFunny stories, hm...

you know as they say... what happenes in Am-sterdam stays in Am-sterdam... The same about MUN. Once upon a time on a BelaMUN opening ceremony all the chairs made “beer resolution” on who will go to drink beer after the

opening ceremony! The resolution passed.

Word of advice for a new generation of MintMUNers

Do your job, do your best. Remember – MUN is a roleplay.

Always remember who you really are and stay true!

GA1: Special Political and Decolonization Committee

The conference it-self. The fountain of funny things

Even though I’m afraid of being accused of exaggerating I still claim that one will never gear more funny stuff than while listening to

the delegates of the con-fidence. Judging by the number of twits on this topic among chair peo-ple they will certainly agree with me.

I attended only one committee during the conference but still my pockets are full of anec-

dotes to tell my friends about.

Well, starting from the very beginning these are the crucial points that certainly deserve our at-tention:

- we’ll discuss and have fun with these points tomorrow;

- point of personal privilege for these guys from the upper-floor is to stop drilling;

- nuclear plant is a nice place to visit during the vocation;

- we should build a building for studying;

- so whatsoever you want to do with the country: popularize or populate?- Popular-ize. - Why have we been discussing populating for the last ten minutes then?

But there are even more things to laugh at that were created by undoubtedly very smart ladies and gentlemen during burning-up exer-cises:

- we should give a pre-sent to a chairperson for delivering the informa-tion we need.

They even claim that these statements are true in game “truth or false”:

- one appeared being already divorced;

- one delegate enjoys working in the garden and the other one prefer spending vocation in Mi-ami beach to everything else.

While everyone seemed to be very busy with debating and al-most forgetting that the place of occurrence is an ordinary secondary school, this fact was brought out by the ex-ternal powers in the face of a school boy. With the feeling of self- confi-dence he cracked the for but seeing there a weird circle consisting with some guys who were al-most shouting at each other, said “...” and ran away. His astonishment will remain in our mem-ories for a long time for sure.

GA2: Economic and Financial Committee● Katiaryna Konyukh

“Imagine that you’re an astrologer and predict the future of the chairs…”

Or what do you think the delegates of ECOFIN were busy with during the first session?

As it turned out, the past can be even more en-igmatic than the future! Such is the case of the delegate from Czech Re-public who came to GA2 wearing a badge with an inscription: “GA1, Mo-rocco”. No one ever knew why.

The mood in the com-mittee was defined from

the very beginning by a plateful of colorful skit-tles on the table of the chairs, which turned into a perfect set of checkers in the skillful hands of administrative staff.

In fact, ECOFIN had some serious work to do and the delegates tried their best to make the session rewarding. Al-though there were lots of obstacles on their way: “We’re like economists, we should use lots of eco-nomic words, sometimes not understandable for us!” (Delegate of Czech

Republic)Still there was scope

for a relaxed chat about the weather, giving great pleasure to the delegate of the UK. By the way, this young lady proved to be not only a real Briton, but, moreover, an expert in such affairs as English lexicology and explained the difference between ‘economic’ and ‘economi-cal’ to the rest of the com-mittee.

All in all, the lobbying procedure was progress-ing in a highly intellec-tual manner with the del-

egates putting in French expressions. “C’est bien! Allons-y! Parlez français!” That’s what you could hear from time to time. Sounds good!

In the end, it be-came obvious to everyone that the delegates should “work together to create peace and love”… And, surely, “No money, no honey!” ain’t no joke.

What was left after the session of ECOFIN in the mind’s eye?

Only three words – awesome, fruitful and great!

Security Council● Vika Porechina

Chairs of SC about the first day of MINTMUN: “We are quite satisfied with the work of commit-tee today. Almost all the delegates were active, but still it seems that some of them are afraid of each other. We had re-ally funny games, when delegate from the Azer-baijan made laugh the whole committee, and good lunch. So today was a great day!”

The first day is over and Security Council would like to represent you some innovations:

- “Motion to forgive the delegate” from the

USA- Creation of new

government of … Bela-rus! *delegates, please, follow your handwriting*

- Veto to Azerbai-jan

- Self-made pies and cakes for being late instead of singing and dancing from Luxem-burg!

- Point to “rebuild people’s mind” from Azerbaijan

So the beginning of MINTMUN-2013 was fanny and full novelties and the second day of Security Council will be at least tasty!

Human Rights Council● Anastasiya Hromava

The greatest «hits» of Human Rights Council:

Chairs: If you will need a first AID, we will call you 911.

Delegate of USA about euthanasia dilemma: We must to do it for deadly ill patients only. Because

somebody with depres-sion will go to the doctor and say: «Doctor, eutha-nize me, please!».

Chairs: «So, Greece and Pakistan were late. And we think that they will dance together!». And what I can say… Yes,

we danced «Gangnam Style» with the delegate of Greece!

All our breaks had inter-esting games with «birds and nests» and balloons with different wishes (sing a song or read a poem).

And to describe the day

in two words I can say only «so amazing!

P.S. Delegates of USA and Japan were «the most speaking» persons, but af-ter 6 hours they came to consensus and all coun-tries adopted a resolution with the best points.

Page 10: MintmuNews Issue 2 University Level 2013

Some years ago Ri-hanna wrote a really nice song about the work of our committee… The main part sounded like this:

“Cause I may be bad, but I’m perfectly good

at itEC in the airI don’t careI Like being in itAcid rains may break

my bonesBut UN POINTS Excite me!”But then good girl gone

bad and she changed the song “EC” into “S&M”. But our committee was singing the “correct” variant during the whole conference, it was a sort of our own committee an-them.

Environment Commission

One more interested fact we didn’t not before the conference is that the newspaper “Komso-molskaya Pravda” is re-ally popular in Germany, the second place takes a newspaper “Germany Pravda” !

So, as you can see we had really fruitful debates and got acquainted with really surprising facts. Maybe because of such amount of unexpected in-formation the delegate of China appeared to be the only one to vote against the point submitted by himself) Even a chair was so shocked that said “Amendment you have a floor” to the delegate of Australia, submitted an amendment!

Being an Admin. Is the experience so bitter? ● Julia Levcovets

Concerning exclu-sively on the delegates we may miss the fasci-nating hidden part of the conference.

Who are they? People keep working to revive the event each time? It may seem that these guys miss all the fun but if to dig deeper you may realize that it is an interesting opportunity that will certainly be filled with amusing mo-ments. This experience will let you to watch the process from inside, be a part of it.

On the other way it is a volunteer work which presumes some stress-ful moment, anxiety.

For example Olga Che-brovskaya, chief of ad-mins, told one occur-rence which took place at dawn of her “career”.

“During my first con-ference as a chief of ad-ministrators I was very nervous (I was about 17), and my brother was a secretary general at that time. So Olga Khabibulina handed over me a note with some technical question (about a coffee break or something like that). And I, feeling all the burden of responsibil-ity, saw only the sur-name, and performing my direct duty carried the note to the secre-

tary general during the ceremony of opening, although the note was meant to me. That prob-ably is not super funny, but reviving in my mem-ory that occurrence I’m affectionate with all my excitement”.

There is also a contra-dictive version regard-ing the staff work. One might say that their life is full of privileges. But to reply on this suppo-sition we can use words of Olga Khabibulina. This was said by her while giving one of the instructive speeches: “And remember - staff are not slaves!” so prob-ably, that’s the only

privilege these brave and hard-working peo-ple have.

As to the rules of so-called staff ethics Olga Chebrovskaya and Kate Inayatova shared some useful tips. They can ap-pear really useful in the complicated issue of how to survive in competing and tough world of staff.

- coming late may re-sult in general disorien-tation;

- the advice for begin-ners: avoid the feeling of self-significance and indispensability. Your work is to make the con-ference of a high quality and not save the world.
